This style of singing that sounds like yodelling is actually inspired by keening, a traditional Irish lament for the dead. The song 'Dreams' is a good example
Bad wolves and Dolores where suppose to do Zombie together but she passed away right before they were able. So the band Zombies did it in her memory and donated to her family.
Zombie was a visceral response to the death of two children in an IRA bombing in the Cheshire town of Warrington. Lead singer Dolores O' Roiodan was a great singer unfortunately she died at 46 from accidentally drowning in her bathtub in 2018. They said she had high levels of alcohol in her system. Linger is another great song.
It's a response to the Warringtom bombing where two children, Tim Parry and Jonathon Ball were killed by an IRA bomb. Dolores was saying what most in Ireland were saying: 'Not in my name!' I remember that bombing so well. . During the conflict, children on both sides died, there are no winners here. It's why I hate hearing kids today shouting 'up the RA'. Clueless.
I can't hear this without crying. She can convey the emotion so completely, and I remember the bombs full well, even though I was still young. Didn't think it had made an impression on me at the time, but hear we are 25/30 years later and I remember full well still.
This song was made from when the cranberries did a tour in the UK and two children from my home town was killed by a IRA bomb in 1993 Warrington, UK. Such a tragedy. Thank you for taking the time to react to this =)
RIP to the 2 kids. There were alot of terrible things done from both sides. I might not agree with all the things the IRA did but after 800yrs of murder rape and piliging from the British I'm thankful for the IRA. If not for them I'd be British now. If put into proper context many more Irish died in the whole of the troubles. I don't blame the ordinary everyday British person but if I'm honest I can't fathom how a a British person can look back at their history with pride. The amount of countries worldwide who do not like even hate the British. They came took over and mass murdered the indigenous people of SOOOO MANY countries. I'm really not trying to be rude or combative but the historical facts speak for themselves. I have had conversations with English people and the small few that can admit that they are looked upon as a nation of tyrants and are ashamed of what was done have an enormous amount of respect from me. Like I said the ordinary everyday person from those times can't be blamed and the ones born in recent times can't either but you would be surprised at how much healing can come from an admittance that it wasn't right and should never have happened from the ancestors is powerful and can open dialogue for even more healing.
Right on the money. Her yodeling is (was) one of her distinct traits. Impressive voice and a very powerfull and sentimental song about the conflict in her country (Northern Ireland) that lasted for decades, usually referred to as "The Troubles". RIP Dolores.
Her howl at the end of the track is so haunting. Sets of goose bumps every time. And you can almost hear the children screaming in the last section. Genius filming and lyrics. hopefully her message keeps getting though.
Fun fact, when Dolores wrote the song and presented it to her band, she said to the drummer befor playing it for the first time "....and can you hit the drums just real hard?" To me it sounds a bit like gun-fire, it def. fits the song well.
Yeah, Delores... one of the most emotional voices of our time. She was found drowned in her bathtub. Toxicology reports found excessive amounts of alcohol and pills in her system the night she died. Obviously fame and fortune dont solve real life problems. She was so beautiful, inside and out. RIP PS - Its ok to shed a tear for her. We all have.
She also struggled with anorexia her whole life. I find alot of really talented ppl have really bad demons. Makes for amazing vocals with pure emotion but also a sad life. So sad.😔🇨🇮💚
Close but not quiteexact. Yes she was found deceased in her tub....accidental drowning. She did have alcohol poisoning but the "pills" you mentioned were medications prescribed by her Doctor for her bipolor disease & depression and were reported by medical examiner as clinical therapy levels. In other words, no not overdose. The pills she had in her system were legit. But she did drown from relaxed state from alcohol poisoning.
Hi I have lived in Warrington UK for my entire life and listening to this song brings back a lot of painful and terrifying memories. I was just 14 when the bus that my friends and I were on had just turned onto Bridge street approaching the town centre when the 1st bomb went off, and before we could comprehend what had happened we heard the second explosion and could clearly see the carnage unfolding. I will never forget that day. The Cranberries released the song Zombie in protest to the violence that had occurred that day, and it will always hold a dear place in my heart. For Dolores O'Riordan to sing alongside the Bad Wolves in an updated cover of this song in protest of the violence which still occurs till the present day would have been amazing, and I'm whole heartedly saddened that she died before it was made possible. This song will be forever in Warringtons heart.
Dolores had a very beautiful and unique voice especially when she does the Irish keeling style of singing which is the yodeling type sound. You should check out Ode To My Family and Linger and also Dreams they really show off her beautiful voice even more. Great reaction!
Greetings from Germany. This song touched me so much, before the wolves made a "cover". No one could ever reach the feeling her sound and pain ever was reached in that song.
RIP Delores she is a true legend. ever since she died It has been hard for me to listen to her music without getting emotional and teary-eyed. I used to listen to Cranberries all the time and it was always emotional but now its too uncomfortable to bear it all the time.
My father was a drummer. He was magnificent. We are from Louisiana, where Zydeco and Cajun music is from, my dad's band was a Zydeco band and they also did covers of classic rock. When he was on stage playing, he was in his own world, his whole body moved to the beat of the song. He always said "drums are are heartbeat of the song" and I truly believe that. He was inducted into the Cajun Music Hall of Fame a few years after he passed. It was a great honor to be presented with his award.
“Ode to My Family” by The Cranberries is possibly the best example if her vocal style/talent. It’s a little slower, though, so understandable if it didn’t necessarily fit for the channel. Cool seeing you discover some great music, man - big up from Scotland. 👍
The heart felt power in this song is undeniable. The yodel you refer to is more of a wail of sorrow and she makes you feel it. Any senseless loss of life should. Even more so when it's children.
@@NoudlePipW you're welcome! It's the first time I watched the uncut one. Wish it would've been released like that from day one so that people knew the full story completely. So many thought he killed the other students rather than himself
I think Dolores has one of the most powerful voices in rock! She's the only artist you can here her Irish Brogue when she sings! Great loss from the world! RIP 🙏 DOLORES!
In Ireland her "yodel" is called Keening and or Lilting. Keening has a lot do with funerals and death /funeral crying while Lilting they think was from the time when many Irish instruments were either outlawed by the english or too expensive for the Irish to have so they lilted (kind of irish version of scat singing) to make up for no instruments
Sometimes it's hard to tell, since an accents tonality will disappear in the melody of the music. Vocabulary and pronounciation are definite tells though - I'm Norwegian, and our various accents are sometimes as distinct as Norwegian and Swedish, so pronounciations and vocabulary instantly reveal a regional accent, even if the tonality is obscured by the song. Not commenting to dispute what you said, I'm not that familiar with English accents, so I'm sure you are right in your observation! It just reminded me of when sometimes people will say an English singer "sounds American" - but that is often simply a kind of bias, in that LOTS of songs are *in* American English - and you can't really "sing in oxford" because the music and tonality will distort the accent beyond recognition anyway! (Unless a whole song goes "u wot, u wot!" that'd definitely be very English)
I can't believe she's passed. I'm 45 and this was the banger when I was a teenager. Grew up wit this and had their CDs. Damn bro I can't believe she's. Completely tearing up over you telling me this. She was a legend, well still is. Damn I gotta cry now
Goosebumps every time I hear this song. I just found out I'm related to Brien Boru and Timothy Kane. Kane was George Washington's best friend and 2nd in command. I've always loved The Cranberries but now this song has far more meaning!!!!!!! Thank you for doing this video!!
The lead singer’s name was Dolores O’Riordan. The cranberries were an Irish Rock group from Limerick. This song was released in 1994. Dolores wrote this song as an homage to Johnathan Ball and Tim Parry who were killed in 1993 Warrington Bombings and in protest to the violence. This song also remarks about generational prejudices that started in 1916 and finally ended in 1998. This song and music video are emotionally very heavy. This song covers heavy situations, impactful lyrics, and fear provoking imagery. RIP Dolores O’Riorden
I bought this album the day it released. Always loved the Cranberries and the depth of their music. Knowing the meaning for them behind this song, it took on a whole different meaning for me. It became the anthem for my brother in law and his battle with bi-polar disorder. The first day I played it for him, he had me play Zombie on repeat and I could see how he felt this song, and the life it took on for him. He lost his battle at 24, he had been one of my best friends since we met in 7th grade in middle school, years before I met, and eventually married his older bro. So to this day this song still carries the weight of their words, as well as how he felt it in his heart. Still miss him 20 years later, and still heartbroken over the loss of Dolores as well. What I love about good music is how it makes you feel, when it speaks to you, and this will forever be one of Those Songs.
I ve seen them live 3 times. Held Dolores’s hand. What a performer on stage she was. She could transmit so much energy and take you away. I ve listened to this song probably a million times, yet I ll never forget those guitars starting live and people going absolutely crazy
@@baranghaforian7420 I was referring to how infrequently you see them on.reaction channels. It's as if suddenly Zombie is the only song they ever put out. As you said, the two songs I mentioned were also huge hits, but are rarely featured on reaction channels. This song is known for the drums. The drums is probably the best part. Their whole catalog all have amazing instrumentals. Ode to My Family is another one that’s another great one to watch.
Alanis and Dolores were icons in the '90s. Women didn't get a lot of representation in the "angsty" grunge era, but those that stepped up to the plate were incredible!
Not sure if someone said this already in comments, but the woman in gold in Bad Wolves cover is meant to be her trying to reach out from the other side and slowly vanishing. This song gives me chills every time I hear it.
A very powerful song in Ireland it was written in response to two children been killed in an IRA bombing in Warrington and was being played heavily around the time of the Good Friday Agreement which effectively brought an end to the armed conflict in Northern Ireland. So it means a lot.
I wouldn’t say it’s more powerful, I’d say each version is powerful for different reasons. The original being more specific to the IRA and Irish history as whole, and obviously being the original it means more to a lot of people. But the bad wolves cover being powerful because it’s a sad reminder that the world is still like that with the constant fighting and wars and it speaks to the world as a whole. They’re both gorgeous and powerful in their own way.
This song was written for Johnathan Ball, 3, and Tim Parry, 12 who were killed in a bombing from the constant fighting in Ireland. There is a huge foundation named for them to promote peace. One of the best political songs out there. Another fantastic political song is Midnight Oil - Beds Are Burning
Man I love how you analyze things, going beyond " I like/ I don't ". Especially in this song which was very Irish/Euro steeped. If you ever want to hear French or Spanish bands hit me up. Keep up the good work! Love.

These are one of the best irish bands Ye should check out the cranberries other songs too dreams is a nice uplifting song by them the lead singer Deloures had a beautiful unique voice and you instantly know she's irish she's from limerick when she sings zombie it comes through which alot of singers don't or can't use their own accent in their singing voice nice to hear her limerick accent in this song especially. she wrote this about all the violence known as the troubles in the North the Island of Ireland over British still ruling Northern Ireland mainly between Catholic Irish and British pros mainly the illegal Irish ira groups and the illegal British pros groups living there and the thousands of innocent individuals men woman and sadly children too who were killed during those times and how each side has blood on their hands because no one should harm anyone like that thankfully theirs been a peace process since the late nintys. the video was shot 1994 in Belfast it really looked like that then and worse hard times for the people living there through all that I visited Belfast lately and it looked beautiful and people there should be proud of what they accomplished so far. every one I met was friendly and i really enjoyed it so much to do and see great for a weekend away but this song relates to alot of people in different countries sadly still today even i hope to live to see the day the North of Ireland be given back to the people and freed from English ruling peaceful though and finally united Ireland once again but that of course will be be up to the people living there as they don't have a say now maybe the English government might let them actually hold a referendum let the people vote whether they want to stay in the UK be their own country without ties to the UK or be united with Ireland once again but that sounds too reasonable for the uk government to do something like that just my opinion
I just got some more info: The Bad Wolves were set to perform the song with Delores, she died the night before. They went ahead with the song and donated the money to her children.

I LOVE this song Van! Thank you for reacting to it. I watched your son react to Zombie and he loved it too, although he had tears in his eyes after just listening to the first half of it. It's a testament to the power of the words of the song and to Dolores's voice that you don't need to know about the history of the troubles in Ireland to feel the weight of it. Dolores wrote this particular song about 3 boys in England who were killed by an I.R.A. terrorist bomb. During the 1990's the I.R.A. was very active in England and there were bombs going off every week at times. When Dolores sings about how "it's the same old theme since 1916," she's referring to the Easter Uprising in Ireland and all the violence that has happened since then between the Irish Republican Army (or I.R.A) and the British government. I come from England, and I think that 99.99% of English and Irish people would like to see an end to the violence right now.
It's a shame that the lead singer passed away. She had an amazing and unique voice. May she rest in peace 🕊️☮️❤️ My cousin went on tour with Moby. He is an amazing drummer. He has played with a lot of famous people. Bebe King played with him before he passed away. 🕊️😥❤️
I was in Rome with my sister years ago. All the Italian kids were coming up to us and asking my sis for selfies with them. Turns out the Cranberries were playing there that weekend and they all thought she was Dolores.

It's a response to the Warringtom bombing where two children, Tim Parry and Jonathon Ball were killed by an IRA bomb. Dolores was saying what most in Ireland were saying: 'Not in my name!'
I remember that bombing so well. . During the conflict, children on both sides died, there are no winners here. It's why I hate hearing kids today shouting 'up the RA'. Clueless.
Same. This is one of those songs that will live forever.
I'm thankful for Oliver Cromwell and the British army.
Without them, I might have been papist Irish.
She is absolutely stunning but her voice is something ethereal.
Right on the money. Her yodeling is (was) one of her distinct traits. Impressive voice and a very powerfull and sentimental song about the conflict in her country (Northern Ireland) that lasted for decades, usually referred to as "The Troubles". RIP Dolores.
Dolores isn't from Northern Ireland she's from County Limerick in the Republic of Ireland
She's keening, not yodelling and was from limerick in the south 😊
NORTHERN IRELAND is a British Construct. Free Ireland
@@Edwordcomic Agreed
@@Edwordcomic Yes, the occupied 6 counties....
The Cranberries were one of my favorite alternative bands of the 90's. Absolutely love them.
I love that you dont fear Genres
Your eclectic with your music. I believe you cant say you like music if you dont appreciate all music much respect
Her howl at the end of the track is so haunting. Sets of goose bumps every time. And you can almost hear the children screaming in the last section. Genius filming and lyrics. hopefully her message keeps getting though.
R.I.P. DOLORES
Such a beautiful soul gone waaaay too soon. She loved her family and her country. And she was... Is loved beyond believe.
RIP
PS - Its ok to shed a tear for her.
She will always live on in her work proud to call her Irish ☘️
Hi
I have lived in Warrington UK for my entire life and listening to this song brings back a lot of painful and terrifying memories.
There has never been a song quite like this. It's simple and brilliant, but the vocals just take it to another level.
One of the best Irish songs ever recorded.
There is no greater beast than man. I saw it in the war. Greetings to all good people from Serbia ...
When she died I was struggling with alcohol addiction myself and she helped inspire me to get and stay sober.
Glad you’re doing better
I hope you are still doing well.
Dolores had a very beautiful and unique voice especially when she does the Irish keeling style of singing which is the yodeling type sound. You should check out Ode To My Family and Linger and also Dreams they really show off her beautiful voice even more. Great reaction!
You should listen to Linger by the Cranberries. Her voice will make you cry.
Yes «ode to my family» is my favoritt - RIP Dolores 💙
Ode to my Family is an amazing song. You are missed, Dolores. RIP.
Every time I hear this song, I get goosebumps!! Dolores has so much emotion in her voice, Insanely powerful!! RIP Dolores, we love you!! 💜✌️🤟🤘
As a 16 year old girl, this was my life, honestly. She was everything to me 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
As a former percussionist, I appreciate your appreciation for drums. We always get overlooked 😞. And by the way people it's not as easy as it looks 😂
Favorite song by them..
One of my all time favorite songs!!
You can feel the true grief in her voice. RIP Dolores. Nice reaction.
The heart felt power in this song is undeniable. The yodel you refer to is more of a wail of sorrow and she makes you feel it. Any senseless loss of life should. Even more so when it's children.
If you want another deep one based on a true story check out "Jeremy" by Pearl Jam the official video
The uncut version was released on their TH-cam last week fyi
@@calebsmommy812 Ooooooooo!!! Thanks for the heads up!
@@NoudlePipW you're welcome! It's the first time I watched the uncut one. Wish it would've been released like that from day one so that people knew the full story completely. So many thought he killed the other students rather than himself
I always feel bad about that song with knowing how the mother felt. With PJ blending 2 stories it made people assume things about Jeremy.
@@lexiwexiwoo yeah, I totally get that. I'm so sorry for what you are going through!
This song still gives me goosebumps all these years later oh the tears ❤️🥺
I think Dolores has one of the most powerful voices in rock! She's the only artist you can here her Irish Brogue when she sings! Great loss from the world! RIP 🙏 DOLORES!
Once in a lifetime voice bro. Delores was the shit
Dolores has/had one of the most unique voices ever...
Beautiful reacction 💪
you can hear the Irish accent in her voice singing a lot of singers cover up there accents
The Cranberries had many incredible songs. I am truly sad that I was never able to see them live.
for me, this song, and whole the cranberries are one of the symbols of 90'... most happiest teenage period in my life...
I couldn't agree more with her voice and beauty, I had such a crush on her back in the day. RIP Delores we miss you but the music will never die!!
I can't believe she's passed. I'm 45 and this was the banger when I was a teenager. Grew up wit this and had their CDs. Damn bro I can't believe she's. Completely tearing up over you telling me this. She was a legend, well still is. Damn I gotta cry now
Thank you very much, please try another one of them.
It is called linger.
Great one ❤
Linger is good, Dreams is better
I heard linger on charmed, I didn't realize the cranberries were the same band that made Zombie at the time.
LFR, it takes a real man to cry, do not be ashamed. Please pray for the people in Gaza, Palestine etc. tonight. Peace & Love from Ireland
I agree with you I love the yodel she adds in there. She had an amazing voice.
I ve seen them live 3 times. Held Dolores’s hand. What a performer on stage she was. She could transmit so much energy and take you away. I ve listened to this song probably a million times, yet I ll never forget those guitars starting live and people going absolutely crazy
Linger or dreams are their most underrated tunes! 20 likes for the song dreams. I feel like more people should hear it.
@@baranghaforian7420 I was referring to how infrequently you see them on.reaction channels. It's as if suddenly Zombie is the only song they ever put out. As you said, the two songs I mentioned were also huge hits, but are rarely featured on reaction channels. There are many who watch these channels who don't know the Cranberries who should also know these songs exist. Obviously I needed to be more clear with my statement.
Shammy Cat Agreed, I don’t get it, Dreams is fuckin amazing.
Song was written about two boys killed in a bombing attack growing up as a child I remember my parents checking for bombs under cars buildings blowing up people being shoot at it was a war still hasn’t ended just settled down at least we don’t have to check are cars here still have the memory’s burned in my mind I pray everyday god bless everyone
Thank you for watching this and yes she was beautiful voice of an angel trying to bring us peace the drummer playing with real emotion cause the song had real meaning to them just like my family and I
RIP Dolores.❤ And thank you for reacting to this. X
This song is known for the drums. The drums is probably the best part. Their whole catalog all have amazing instrumentals. Ode to My Family is another one that’s another great one to watch.
It's not about the voice it's about the words
Alanis and Dolores were icons in the '90s. Women didn't get a lot of representation in the "angsty" grunge era, but those that stepped up to the plate were incredible!
Not sure if someone said this already in comments, but the woman in gold in Bad Wolves cover is meant to be her trying to reach out from the other side and slowly vanishing. This song gives me chills every time I hear it.
Props for following up with this video. Always good to hear the original to get perspective on what it's about. Great reaction!
RIP Dolores
I like almost every song the Cranberries did and Delores was their primary song writer. A truly great talent.
A very powerful song in Ireland it was written in response to two children been killed in an IRA bombing in Warrington and was being played heavily around the time of the Good Friday Agreement which effectively brought an end to the armed conflict in Northern Ireland. So it means a lot.
Irish here! Song full of angst and pain about the troubles here. Your voice and demeanour is so calming 😌
Her voice reminds me a bit of Sinade O'Conner's Mandinka - FYI, Prince (RIP) wrote a song for her, too - Nothing Compares 2 U...
Its not just the IRA dipshit....its the UDA and the black and tans as well.
1916, 1994, 2018. It’ll always be the same.
@@Edwordcomic the song was wrote because of the ira bombing in warrington (England) that resulted in the death of 2 children..
The style she's singing is a specified type of vocals for traditional Irish funerals.
I still get goosebumps when I hear this song.
Her voice and the keening is very Irish. Notice how the shots on the snare sounds like gunfire. Rest in peace, Delores. You are immortal.
Man I love how you analyze things, going beyond " I like/ I don't ". Especially in this song which was very Irish/Euro steeped. If you ever want to hear French or Spanish bands hit me up. Keep up the good work! Love.
Dolores was a national treasure here in Ireland. Cool to see you reacting to her voice.
This is one of the most powerful songs ever written about war...and the costs to innocents that war brings.
Irish alternative rock band the Cranberries, Zombie is a protest song written in memory of the two young victims who were killed in the 1993 Warrington bombings, Johnathan Ball and Tim Parry.
Dolores is amazing she has a unique voice she is missed when she died it was tough for me i didn't think she was gonna die because she seemed so happy ode to my family is one of my favorites. But then again us humans know how to pretend to seem happy but really inside were hurting. New subscriber now hope ur staying safe and have a good yr filled with happiness and blessings.
These are one of the best irish bands Ye should check out the cranberries other songs too dreams is a nice uplifting song by them the lead singer Deloures had a beautiful unique voice and you instantly know she's irish she's from limerick when she sings zombie it comes through which alot of singers don't or can't use their own accent in their singing voice nice to hear her limerick accent in this song especially. she wrote this about all the violence known as the troubles in the North the Island of Ireland over British still ruling Northern Ireland mainly between Catholic Irish and British pros mainly the illegal Irish ira groups and the illegal British pros groups living there and the thousands of innocent individuals men woman and sadly children too who were killed during those times and how each side has blood on their hands because no one should harm anyone like that thankfully theirs been a peace process since the late nintys. the video was shot 1994 in Belfast it really looked like that then and worse hard times for the people living there through all that I visited Belfast lately and it looked beautiful and people there should be proud of what they accomplished so far. every one I met was friendly and i really enjoyed it so much to do and see great for a weekend away but this song relates to alot of people in different countries sadly still today even i hope to live to see the day the North of Ireland be given back to the people and freed from English ruling peaceful though and finally united Ireland once again but that of course will be be up to the people living there as they don't have a say now maybe the English government might let them actually hold a referendum let the people vote whether they want to stay in the UK be their own country without ties to the UK or be united with Ireland once again but that sounds too reasonable for the uk government to do something like that just my opinion
gotta hear their verson of "go your own way"..dolores owns it.
her voice sends shivers
Masterpiece! R.i.p Dolores. ☘️
About time! Both are powerful!
I cried when she passed as much as I cried for Chester... such talented young kids dying so young...just breaks my heart.
I just got some more info: The Bad Wolves were set to perform the song with Delores, she died the night before. They went ahead with the song and donated the money to her children.
Thank you so much for your reaction. I’m so glad you did the original. And I’m glad you got to see where it came from. The Bad Wolves version is a great cover and very touching. Thank you so much for sharing it with us. The Irish troubles our real horrible thing.❤️👍😃🌼
Ah man. R.I.P. Delores. Such a powerful and haunting songs as intended given the subject matter!!!!! 🤘❤🤘 ✌
I wish I knew back in the 80s, growing up, that music and video in the future would be pure JUNK. I would of exalted 'MY Times' MORE. LOL. Glad for anyone that discovers LFR FAM - And the Music of a pastime that will never ever ever happen again. Keep educating LFR, you are our only hope. (Star Wars quote there) Peace Out from the snow covered Mts of Upstate NY xoxox
This song is so raw with the loss due to man’s inability to compromise and the price paid in innocent lives.
I feel so heard right now. ❤️
It's a shame that the lead singer passed away. She had an amazing and unique voice. May she rest in peace 🕊️☮️❤️ My cousin went on tour with Moby. He is an amazing drummer. He has played with a lot of famous people. Bebe King played with him before he passed away. 🕊️😥❤️
You ROCK! Thanks for playing Zombie!
Cranberries live in Paris in the 90s ! No cameras in the crowd just everyone living for the moment ! Check it out
I was in Rome with my sister years ago. All the Italian kids were coming up to us and asking my sis for selfies with them. Turns out the Cranberries were playing there that weekend and they all thought she was Dolores.
This always makes me so sad. We're all children of God and so much better than our current division and hatred. I wish everyone could see that. Music is so powerful I wish more people saw this
Rest in Peace - Dolores O'Riordan. She was a great singer and very beautiful! and shoutout to LFR FAM for hearing out the ORIGINAL! Big Respects
