Chicken Run is definitely one of the best Aardman animated film and the greatest Stop-Motion movie of all time, its definitely one of my most favorite movie!
I’m a big stop motion fan, rankin bass (which is quite niche being in U.K.) and have a seperate dvd section for stop motion. Chicken run is amazing but I don’t know if it’s the best stop motion ever made but I’ll admit so definitely in top 3 for me.
An honorable mention is The Pirates: Band of Misfits (or In An Adventure With Scientists if you live in Britain 😅) The movie has a beautiful combination of claymation with CGI backgrounds 👍🏻
I know one of the model makers from both Sledgehammer AND Creature Comforts, Greg Boulton, a great uni mentor and good friend of mine, I still chuckle over the story Greg told my Uni class that Nick Park was animating REAL chickens from Tesco's in "Sledgehammer", so under hot lights they went rank VERY quick and he had to wear a face mask to protect himself from the foul odour, we all had a good chuckle at the time. Still tickles me to this day.
Wallace and Gromit will always have a special place in my heart, I grew up watching the DVD episodes and the movie, (at that time, I didn't know what claymation was, but I didn't care, I loved them too much), but Chicken run also part of my childhood and I hope the next generation can learn to appreciate these movies because they deserve respect and recognition
Chicken Run will always be my jam. Though it uses the dreaded "Liar Revealed" trope, luckily it doesn't dwell too much on that conflict, and Ginger is more angry at Rocky for leaving than for lying in the first place.
I'm surprised Flushed Away, Wallace and Gromit the matter of loaf and death, The Pirates Band of Misfits, and Early Man weren't mentioned on the list. Chicken Run was my favorite Aardman film, followed by Wallace and Gromit.
Considering the studio has only made 9 feature films, its weird for any not to be included in a top 10 list. I love a grand day out and creature comforts but we sure as shit are stretching the meaning of the world film to include them. I guess "the only 9 full length feature films by aardman" doesnt have the same ring to it.
Flushed Away and Pirates are in my top 3 personally (along with Wrong Trousers) In my opinion they were definitely much better than the two Shaun the Sheep films (the lack of dialogue made them a bit boring for me)
I was thinking the same as well as to where a matter of loaf and death and early man weren't on a honourable list. Have not seen Pirates Band of Misfits and neither Flushed Away
I kinda view it as the Aardman equivalent to a musical release akin to Lou Reed's "Metal Machine Music" or Metallica's "St Anger" - it's a film that, to me, typifies the frustrations at Aardman towards Dreamworks' increasing micromanagements to desperately Americanize a British institution (The Curse Of The Were-Rabbit, for instance, received significant pushback from Dreamworks higher-ups about how American children wouldn't relate to a film about vegetables. Even the original film title, "The Great Vegetable Plot", was changed at the behest of DW). So what we got was a film that, while not up to the standard of Aardman's classic days, did eventually allow the studio to continue on as they wanted. If you're unfamiliar with the album references, "Metal Machine Music" was an album released by Reed purely to satisfy a contractual obligation to his record label at the time, but mostly consists of white noise. "St Anger" caught Metallica at their most freyed, interpersonal relationships between the band at near-breaking point, resulting in an album that doesn't quite know what style it wants to be, and with deliberately ugly sound production choices thrown in to reflect how the band felt.
I understand that they may not be in some opinion as good as the others, but I can’t help thinking of the other Aardman Products (Eg. The Pirates, Loaf and Death, Flushed Away) and just imagine them looking on sadly and I feel a tad guilty. Brilliant picks for Top 10, though!
Chicken run is my absolute favourite film Aardman has ever made but dawn of the nugget isn’t as spectacular as the original but it does share the same amount of quality and it has an amazing story to it as well.
I honestly wish I grew up with Aardman as a lot of their work puts a smile on my face Just this year I’ve grown attached to both Wallace and Gromit and Shaun the sheep, both have made this year better for me and throughout this year I’ve been excited for anything new they would announce or release Aardman has grown my fond and appreciation for stop motion animation :]
People always talk Disney has the best animated movies, but I believe Aardman has the ultimate best content. I grew watching British content during my childhood which was mostly stop motion and its an animation style many should value due to the efforts put onto it.
Wallace and Gromit and Chicken Run were the bee's knees of Aardman Animation. They just haven't made anything like them since. I miss the days when Aardman balanced dark tones with lighter themes instead of making films that felt like they were exclusively for kids
I remember many years ago there were some rumours going around the Aardman were going to do a Count Duckula movie. Sadly that turned out to not be true. But it is still something I would love to see.
The thing I preferred about Farmageddon is the Doctor Who references. There was literally a sheep disguised as a Dalek saying "Exterminate" while bleating. And we briefly see the alien use a sonic screwdriver. Not to mention Tom Baker's Four 😊
I really love Wallace and Gromit a matter of loaf and death. It’s really ell done and I think deserves to be in the top 10 but still really good picks! Love your vids
Interesting thing about "Creature Comforts", the audio is from interviews with real people. The puma is a Spanish immigrant talking about the living conditions of the housing complex he lives in.
said complex was a bedsit in Sheffield on Psalter Lane from what I learnt... going to Sheffield Hallam Uni on the animation course DOES have it's insider perks.
As much as I liked Dawn Of The Nugget, I might personally rank Pirates In An Adventure With Scientists over it. I'm not entirely sure how to explain this at the moment, but they are both very good films in Aardman's catalogue.

The main character of the series, Wallace, a cheese connoisseur, most notably mentions Wensleydale as a particularly favourite cheese in the 1995 short A Close Shave. Agreed.
I'd argue it's one of the greatest movies of all time.

My favourite part about that movie was the sea monster on the map. Great set up, hilarious pay off 😂
That movie is criminally underrated!
I actually watched that movie when I was younger.
Fun fact: Nick Park actually was responsible for a cultural juggernaut prior to Creature Comforts: the music video for Sledgehammer by Peter Gabriel.
