“Pirates in an Adventure with Scientists” is one of the funniest animated films I’ve seen in years and I’m genuinely upset it doesn’t get nearly the amount of attention it deserves
The best thing about Aardman movies is that none of them are outright terrible. They all have unique qualities which make them enjoyable to all audiences.
I remember when i was younger i thought the movie was stop motion and was disappointed to learn it was cgi since i thought i was looking at really impressive stop motion animation
I was obsessed with the DVD content of Flushed Away! I adored the game where you have to guide the ship through the sewers, I was mesmerized by the how-to documentaries, all of the other games were great and even the MAIN MENU was a huge part of my childhood; seeing each character's reaction to being flushed down the loo was entertaining. I still have the DVD :)
7:27 The only problem with that theory is that most of the other VAs came back, except for Fowler's since he died back in 2017. But yes, Ginger and Rocky's replacements do sound pretty awkward.
My personal hypothesis is that they got the opportunity to work with Thandiwe Newton and she would only work with them if she got a leading role which meant Julia Sawalha had to be dropped. The whole statement about her voice sounding too old just sounds like an excuse, especially when you take into account Sawalha's statement about never even auditioning.
Fun fact: Aardman studios first got their big break animating the Sledgehammer music video. It is also how Nick Park gained major respect within the company for the dancing chickens scene within said MV. While he was working on this he made the Oscar-winning Creature Comforts and A Grand Day Out, securing Aardman's legacy in the entertainment industry.
Genuinely think The Wrong Trousers is one of the funniest movies ever made. Something about the ridiculous events played ABSOLUTELY straight - the music is so dramatic and serious. I think when Gromit first sees Feathers with the glove on his head, and his eyes go wide in realisation and the music is SO dramatic. God, it still makes me laugh 30 years after I first saw it. I remember laughing at it with my Dad, and now I laugh at it with my kids. Wonderful
If they didn't have as many mistakes as they did, it would be a tad more acceptable. But I agree, I don't see the need for them being there, not like Dazz tends to mumble or speaks in a "hard to comprehend accent" to the average listener/watcher.
Arthur Christmas is my favorite Christmas movie and I wish for it to be more recognized, to the point of being considered a holiday classic, just as Home Alone, Elf, a Christmas Story, etc.
@@diddlydilts2796 I agree that's *usually* the point of subtitles but they're not that useful when they're this off. Most of the people with disabilities will be using the subs as an aid rather than replacement. They can't really aid you as you listen when there's such a huge mismatch.
Great video but really got to work on those subtitles: they’re really off, if they’re part-automated they could defo do with a read-through check before upload. Your commentary shows a love for the material but then the captions don’t know who Roald Dahl is or how to spell Gromit
The wear rabbit was the first ever of these movies I saw and it scared the shit out of me as a kid lol but it's the movie that inspired me to try and do claymation
Feathers gave me NIGHTMARES when I was a toddler. Something about how manipulative he was towards Wallace, and being able to wriggle Gromit out of his own house.
I absolutely LOVE Aardman. I technically met Peter Lord before. Young me and my (now late) grandfather were in Bristol, and we stopped in a pub because he wanted to check the score of a football match and get a drink. And there was the man himself, Peter Lord. Me being about 6 at the time, I didn't know who he was and also, I was shy. We were next to him. He flashed a smile at me :O
Flushed Away is one of my favourite movies of all time 😂 I loved it when I first saw it, and I love it now. The mime scene with the phone is such a creative scene only Aardman would come up with that.
Agree with a lot of your list, wish Dawn of the Nugget could've been better! One thing I wanna mention quickly: the subtitles are way off on this video. "Aardman era" = "of an era", etc etc etc They're distracting and making me second guess what's being said. Would prefer they either be accurate to the audio or be removed.
Wallace and Gromit is one of the pieces of media nearest and dearest to my heart. I also grew up on Creature Comforts, which is crazy underrated. as soon as i turned 18, i got a gromit tattoo on my forearm
I was very much in awe of your own subtitles having several wrong words. For example, you said Swords, in Victorias skirt, but the Subs said Thoughts. I get the TH-cam subs getting things wrong, but your own is quite funny. Now paying close attention for more.
I've always loved wallace and grommit and shawn the sheep ever since i was young, but I didn't realize how many Aardman movies I've watched throughout my childhood until now.
Not gonna lie, I actually got the chills when Arthur Christmas wasn't mentioned yet, and it was very high on the list. It's actually my all time favorite Aardman movie and a must watch when Christmas time comes around
I really only remember the original wallace and Gromit and chicken run, but the Wallace and Gromit is always like a super fond memory that me and my dad liked. Great great.
Arthur Christmas so high up is extremely based IMO- Not exactly where I would put it, but yeah its defiantly one of Aardmans best, even if its one of the two that isn't in their main medium
i love aardman so so much. i have so many memories watching their movies. i watched curse of the wererabbit and very time i went to the chiropractor with my mom because it was the only good dvd they had. i was obsessed with flushed away and id watch all the dvd extras and make the slugs out of clay from one of the tutorials. id watch tons of creature comforts compilations with my dad. we had the original 3 shorts on vhs tapes and id watch them religiously. they’re just a huge part of my entire childhood.
despite being american, i have such a huge amount of nostalgia and love for aardman animation. my late mom was a huge fan of stop motion and claymation after growing up with the og rankin-bass specials and shows like gumby and davey and goliath so this lovely little studio easily found its way into our home in the 90s-00s. this is making me want to revisit everything on this list (minus the chicken run sequel; it ended with the first film to me) to see how they hold up and check out those i've never watched

Love the ranking and my order is surprisingly close to yours! But I must also shout out the use of Xenoblade music in the background. You have exquisite taste sir.
I was just about to declare that there is no such thing as a bad Aardman film, and then you spoke about Early Man, which I had apparently blocked from my memory it was so bad! Totally agree with Arthur Christmas taking your top slot. It's an absolutely brilliant film and I'm a guy who doesn't even like Christmas 😂

I still think, despite the fact that it’s a TV short, the fact that aardman did a Star Wars short and featured the moon robot is still one of the greatest things I’ve ever seen the studio do
Flushed away is my favorite movie and has always been a favorite and even though i dont get some of the British jokes its still a masterpiece and my favorite movie
I put this video on and yelled OH MY GOD ITS THE PIKMIN GUY because I used to binge watch you playing pikmin 2 and pikmin 3 because I couldn't play either of them 😭
My ranking of all Aardman Animation feature films: #9. Arthur Christmas #8. Early Man #7. Chicken Run: Dawn Of The Nugget #6. Chicken Run #5. Farmageddon: A Shaun The Sheep Movie #4. Shaun The Sheep Movie #3. The Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists/The Pirates! Band Of Misfits #2. Flushed Away #1. Wallace And Gromit: The Curse Of The Were-Rabbit If anyone wants to know my further thoughts on any of these, feel free to politely and civilly ask.
Id put shaun the sheep 2 at 9 bad movie, trash plot, bad villian, and aliens really? Cmon maybe id make shaun the sheep 2: the revenge of the pest controller
Did you use Ai generated subtitles? I’ve seen a few spelling mistakes here and there, like how you say “deaf” during the Shaun the sheep 2 part, and it translates to “death”
Wallace and gromit a grand day out gave me nightmare when I was 6. The ardman starting screen and Wallace running down to the basement was SO SCARY and I still have nightmares about it
This reminded me of another comparison: 1:Dreamworks relationship ended with AARDMAN because of flushedaway 2: Dreamworks relationship with disneypixar ended because of bugs life and the controversy surrounding ANTZ
That wererabbit transformation sequence gave me nightmares as a kid... and if I was still a kid.. I reckon those Norbots in the new film would've gave me nightmares too.
I think what could've totally saved Early Man was just a different ending. Everything leading up to it is pretty good but having them just win the game and get their home back was a truly boring ending. There should've been some kind of massive natural disaster that disrupts the game! Why have the badlands be designed that way if it's not going to come into the plot, with volcanos and giant animals that could destroy a bronze age city? Like maybe the playing field cracks right open and a lava flow starts, and they have to help the opposition players hop along little stones like they did in their training sequence. Just something to make it less predictable. I don't think the movie's that bad outside of this.
Thank you for giving such love to Arthur Christmas. It's my favourite Christmas film second only to Muppets Christmas carol. I think your list is fascinating and I don't entirely disagree with you either I'd probably put wrong trousers at the top and give pirates Vs scientists a bump up the list a bit but all the points you make are obviously heart felt and I'm so glad you made this list it was great to see
Arthur Christmas and Klaus top my chart for some of THE best movies ever made! And it’s not in spite of being Christmas movies, but BECAUSE they’re Christmas movies that accentuate the actual spirit of what the holiday should MEAN!
These guys are my childhood and as an adult when the second chicken run film came out I was so happy and experienced a lot of nostalgia. I love all of their films A LOT but being a pirate fan their film "The Pirates. Band of Misfits." has to be one of my favorite films. Flushed away is also up there for me.
It saddens me to see how much people dislike Early Man 😭 I personally find it pretty cool!! I kinda feel that the main idea of it is quite "out there" if u know what I mean, but that doesn't mean that it's terrible. Maybe it's just bc I love anything Aardman related but yeah 😅
Love your ranking, very good!!! ... but there's something about the Sean the Sheep Movie's simplicity and exceptional visual storytelling that puts it waaaay higher for me. Near the top! It's so elemental that it could well be called 'Aardman the Movie'🤓 A true mini-classic!
Just use TH-cam's captions instead of superimposing it over the footage with AI. It's just very distracting. This feels like a TH-cam Shorts brainrot video because of it.
The Shaun the Sheep movie is my favourite. I don’t know how to really describe why but the climax just gets me tearing up every time just seeing the love between the farmer and Shaun when he finally gains his memory back. I don’t know fully why but I absolutely tear up each time. The film is emotional hilarious and dare I say pure cinema.
Yeah, my list is likely a little different from yours haha. So how would you rank every Aardman Movie..?
All the Wallace and Gromit films at the top, then probably pirates, then the robin, then I’m not sure.
Wallace and gromit: curse of the where rabbit
The psa they made
Flushed away because i remember loving it

Id put shaun the sheep 2 at 9 bad movie, trash plot, bad villian, and aliens really? Cmon maybe id make shaun the sheep 2: the revenge of the pest controller
8:50 paper Mario and pikmin- Pokémon?
I was gonna say that
Did you use Ai generated subtitles? I’ve seen a few spelling mistakes here and there, like how you say “deaf” during the Shaun the sheep 2 part, and it translates to “death”
I’ll save you some time. There all 10/10.
Wallace and gromit a grand day out gave me nightmare when I was 6. The ardman starting screen and Wallace running down to the basement was SO SCARY and I still have nightmares about it
This reminded me of another comparison:
1:Dreamworks relationship ended with AARDMAN because of flushedaway
2: Dreamworks relationship with disneypixar ended because of bugs life and the controversy surrounding ANTZ
Bro is British and said ‘Soccer’ you have disappointed us brits, Matt.
I think your list is fascinating and I don't entirely disagree with you either I'd probably put wrong trousers at the top and give pirates Vs scientists a bump up the list a bit but all the points you make are obviously heart felt and I'm so glad you made this list it was great to see
Dawn of the nugget foreshadowed feathers McGraws return so that’s something
Pirates In An Adventure With Scientists is in my top five favorite films in general
Maybe it's just bc I love anything Aardman related but yeah 😅
so happy to find out that aardman made their films accessible for death too. really considerate of them ❤️
9:20They are making a Pokemon Aardman!!
The dogs in the first chicken run film generally gave me nightmares for weeks😅😢
Just use TH-cam's captions instead of superimposing it over the footage with AI. It's just very distracting. This feels like a TH-cam Shorts brainrot video because of it.
The Shaun the Sheep movie is my favourite. I don’t know how to really describe why but the climax just gets me tearing up every time just seeing the love between the farmer and Shaun when he finally gains his memory back. I don’t know fully why but I absolutely tear up each time. The film is emotional hilarious and dare I say pure cinema.
clay animation never die
