Live at Budokan is a great and very real rock record. Rick said it showed the band for what they actually did and the albums/video clips etc were overproduced creations of the record company. He said they wanted to be a kind of "pop Sex Pistols that could actually be successful" but they forced them into the teen idol thing once they were signed. When you owe the record company you gotta make that sellout record to move some units and pay off your recoupables. The live album shows what rick said to be true, they did sound like a more pop minded Sex Pistols without the keyboards and playing in the nastier way that they actually wrote the songs to sound like. It's a pretty respected record among Rock fans that actually know their shit. Back in the old days there were a lot of radio people who didn't buy many albums and didn't read rock journalism and didn't go to local shows and maybe possibly went to one or two or maybe even a small handful of main circuit tour "concerts" at the ____ center and all that shit and they talk about how they were "there." Yeah, dude, you weren't as fucking there as me and you still aren't. It's nothing to brag about, being a rock fan in the 70s and 80s pretty much meant you statistically were very likely to have spent all your time and money on stupid ass shit like the Eagles and Toto and you ignored all the genius work that everyone talks about as being the real music of the time. So, "I lived in the 80s and existed" is actually a _bad thing_ and showing some actual class, knowledge and taste must be displayed to clarify such a statement. Most people back then were stupid assholes who didn't know shit about dick from what I saw. People who were worth a shit were the minority...which is always the case but man, back then? What a collection of assholes! You sound like one of the average goofballs more to me. They fully intended to be a kind of a more poppy sex pistols that could actually sell records. Their live sound is the actual band. I like some of their recorded material too for sure, but the phenomenon was the live act with this band... and I seem to remember everyone and their grandmother knowing this but I guess some people didn't.
