It's always adorable watching people having this happen for the first time. Their hearts basically stop. They try their controls, and pause, because nothing is working and neither is their brain. And then they sit wide eyed watching the Thargoids. Always worth finding these! ^,^
maybe its like how when a little kid isnt really hurt they sob, but you know its really bad if they just stare and dont make any noise. like an automatic psychological response.

My hyperdiction was crazy, I didn't know what was happening. I was totally weirded out. But when they fell back to observe and make noised it got blacker and one of them was really close. They stopped glowing, then I went to move away when my power came back and I ran into one of them. They didn't like that at all. Then it was rebuy time.

This is the best reaction I’ve seen. All the others I’ve seen are people who know what they’re looking for and they are hunting for it, but this is the only one I’ve seen that happens without the pilot expecting it and it captures the absolute confusion, surprise and bewilderment at having something completely alien (figuratively and literally) occur. I first met them in Pleiades system during a time of high Thargoid activity. Every couple of jumps the Inquisition would come. The shock factor diminished but they're always spooky, every time.
you know that feeling you get when someone tells you that someone died ? that was the exact feeling i got when Thargoid ships hyperdicted me for the first time :D
This reminds me of my first encounter, although mine was less quiet awe and more aggressively trying to reboot despite having zero access to anything, and then quickly doing a full reverse thrust once I got power so I could simultaneously keep an eye on the great spacebeast and retreat

I was shocked when my passenger mission ask me to visit to the pleiade, I was scared that I saw MANY thargoïd around me in almost each solar system!!! Happily I never had hyperdict by a thargoïd. :P
the moment when we all first experienced this... prepared or not is still frightening. the balls with which the thargoids approach us humans is stunning, i guess its more to their luck, they arent interdicting many anti-xeno craft in these scenarios
I had the exact first reaction after sheer terror I had 2 thargiod class attack ships play pong with me. Bumped me about like 5 times b4 buggering off. Had to go silent running to get that damn slime cooked off
You were so lucky! Being 'dicted by two Thargoids who DIDN'T have murder on their mind. Those things are fascinating when they're not of a mind to melt your ship. Try finding their artefacts around the Pleiades...and investigating some 'Nonhuman signal source - Level 5's ...and be ready to take photos!
Also, I'm pretty sure that chances of being hyperdicted are increased while carrying thargoid material (most times I've been hyperdicted I was carrying said cargo)
@@EnricoZulu Random in the sense that you can't predict where and when they'll happen. However, if you fly near Thargoid space - the Pleiades - you WILL attract killer flower attention. So long as you don't have Thargoid material in your hold (Meta-alloy) you're fine - they're not really interested. If you do though....
You're lucky that you weren't carrying any Thargoid material otherwise they would have blasted you. It's not nearly as cool when they practically one-shot you to the rebuy screen.

not played it, but i’d guess it uses a pitch wash sub base (sounds just above 20Hz) since most people don’t have speakers or headphones capable of playing infrasound like in a cinema, but it has the a similar effect, often triggering a fight or flight sensation.
That happened to me just a couple of days ago. Also in the Pleiades sector. I didn't get to see the Thargoid ship, though--I think it was behind me. I reacted pretty much the same way you did! If I had only had a wake scanner with me... but I was in my exploration ship.
@@steve88luv if you get interdicted by Thargoids, and have a field neutraliser module on your ship you can block the shut down field. Note that if you do successfully block their shut down field they get angry and instantly deploy a swarm. But might not attack, as soon as I block the field I just fly away.
@@NinjaZXRR Yeah I saw BerserkMan2000 try that but it failed so I wasn't sure if it still worked. I havent met a Thargoid yet so I will have to remember to have one when I want to fight them.
They should make it now that when you get hyperdicted you can use a Frame shift boost to bypass the thargoid and go into a animation where it goes boosting in 3 2 1 and boom your outta there

FD's sound department is absolutely top notch. That low rumble the thing makes gives me goosebumps every time.
Honestly the sound is one of the best parts about elite dangerous and honestly it has the best sound design I’ve ever heard

Is Infrasound used in Elite Dangerous? The sound we feel rather hear that produces fear?
Most audio systems would cut out anything that low, but bassy sounds can still do the trick

It’s the same kind of Thargoid encounter back when I was playing Elite (no Dangerous yet) on my Sinclair Spectrum 48k.
I was not even aware that was possible.
Thargoids are insanely advanced, they can probably do way more than that but we dont really know much about them yet.
You need to experience AX Combat. The variety of sounds are incredible
