- 7 quick tips to help you get starting in X4 Foundations 4.0. This game isn't the easiest when you are new but it can be a very fun time if you stick with it. These are the tips I wished I knew when I first started but if there is anything you think that I missed please let me know!

Great guide for beginners. I would say that "Not looking" is vital for so many parts of the game. Your entire AI fleet, except for when they are in wing combat with you - only really work if you are not looking. Because it is all abstracted. If you look, they will bash into stations, ignore objectives and probably destroy themselves in some crazy way.
Thank you for this, and thank you for your 'style' (way of speaking, no annoying music, to-the-point, etc.). Just downloaded the game yesterday (3/16/2022) and these videos will undoubtedly keep me from uninstalling due to frustration. Thank you!

I have 1000 hours in game, you taught me shift d in stations, changed my life
Bruh, I literally discovered it by accident because who the hell would not make shift a sprint button in first person mode - even if it's not binded, it's just a FPS urge to press shift to sprint. And obviously, like a true pro gamer you gonna strafe while holdign shift with A or D... and then you magically back at your ship, even tho you were sprinting towards that quest NPC and now you have to do it again. Extremely frustrating, but devs locked shift for binding and you can't even rebind it to be normal, but you discover that in your first minute after the game loads anyway and you would think its a bug for the next few hours.
One of the best beginner vids I've seen for X4. Clear, easy to understand, doesn't over- or under- explain anything.

I do have a script on station building ready! I plan on releasing a mining guide first as I feel like going from miners to stations is a natural progression for most players. If I can maintain my release schedule then I should have the station guide released on 7/5!!

For getting stuck inside buildings or asteroids, if you dont want your co-pilot to get out for you, just exit it the way you enter it, hard and fast

Thank you for providig magic flyout from asteroids! Serveral times I've got trapped this way by using autopilot and do not know how to get out.
Ok so I'm pretty late to the party on watching this video. I've been playing X4 for at least a few hundred hours or so, and I had NO IDEA about asking for directions to a system that I hadn't plotted. I have spent so.much.time. either scouring an online sector map to figure out where the gates to my destination system are, or manually scanning around sectors to find the gates. Tip 7 alone was worth watching this video. Thank you.

4:55 Holy shit. First I touched the game I was wondering "why can't I ask a passing ship for direction to my mission objective? I can ask useless stuff like where their rep is or the nearest equipment dock which I know is just a sector away"... yet I never actually tried.
I guess it wasn't such a problem for me in the end, I used that as an opportunity to explore those areas I would frequent in the mission-running I'd do.

About the Super Highway: I don't like it and therefor have removed it through a mod.
If you are a newbie, don't remove it yet. The game pace and especially the war between the factions changes significantly. Some factions get weaker and the overall economy of the "Highway-Factions" gets a big kick in the b'tt by removing it. But, if you feel comfortable with the game and its mechanics, remove it and enjoy the open space.
I've always been on the fence about it, with the deciding factor being that the AI was hard-programmed to assume it was there. Removing it meant that ships still flew the same routes that would get them somewhere fast with the superhighway, but added a bunch of jumps without it. I've yet to get a solid answer on whether this is still the case now that removing it is part of the custom start options.

That's right, but only for AI controlled ships. The ships has full 360 collision detection when you are piloting. It's to keep the AI from getting stuck in stations and asteroids

i want to play this game, i bought it over a year ago.... but i so scared to learn a big new game. but i seen some of ur other videos on this game. it seems to have the few things that elite dangerous misses.
player fleets, space stations, theater war. etc.

I uninstalled my x4 because most guides I find on TH-cam about this game is way too long and convoluted, I'm talking multiple episodes of basics. Now I get that this game is deep and do have a quite high learning curve and I do appreciate the content creators that strive to teach people about this game but it's just too damn long.... I wanna get to haha ship shooty mcshootface go brrr sooner than later. Therefore thank you for making this short but comperhensive tutorials! Subbed!

Great "Starter" video; However, some of what you've stated means haveing a very good grasp on the various menu's. I would love to have my pilot fly my ship sometimes, but in the slightly more than one hundred hours, I've not figured out how.
And aquiring the PHQ from the first start is impossible to noobs such as my self because of not knowing how to do the things required at or near the end aka 4th step.
I actually have a full PHQ tutorial planned! I even put in a little teaser for it during the "keybindings" scene in the upper left 😁. The "stuck in an asteroid" scene shows how to switch between you and your copilot but I admittedly didn't show how to promote a crewman to a pilot so I will be sure to add that in to the PHQ tutorial.
For your 4th step I'm assuming it's for getting the 3 antimatter and sacrificial ship? If that is the case the easiest way is to buy a cheap ship from a wharf (a pilot will come with it by default), then buy the three antimatter cells, and then fly it into the area highlighted by the yellow rings. The ship you are piloting will then be instructed to go about 7km away so to escape the explosion.
If u want a pilot. Go to an equipment dock and buy service crew. Press m for your map. Find your ship in the list on the left. Go to the ship menu and look for the crew screen. The captain will be listed at the top. If there isn't a captain an option will be there to promote someone. Now exit menu. Now while in your ship press enter and select get up. Your captain will sit in your seat. Stay on board (If docked) and press m. Find your ship on the left side and select with left click. You can now queue orders with right mouse button as any normal ship and u can now play the game as it's meant to be played, staring at a map being flown around.
Yes egosoft liek your money but cant be fucked giving you a game manual that is for the game, I spent 12hrs hammering the SHIFT + F key to activate long range scanning , could not find the actual key or sequence on any place bye egosoft( VERY FUCKING DISSAPOINTING),
I HAD TO GO TO REDDIT to get the correct information, Pressing shift + f does nothing but give you a sore shoulder, Pressing first shift 3 - (long range scanning) , The press and hold the L key for around 2 seconds is the actual key bind.
Its sick twisted bullshit like this that is very disappointing from egosoft. Its like buying a car but being refused the keys. Or going to the bank only to be told even though you have an account with us , You are the wrong colour.
@@JKNinja Can you do a follow through of the mission of the PHQ once you have it as , all the videos on youtube take you to terran space for the terran pests but my mission does take me out the viod.

I haven't been able to find an answer to this! Can you split strafe up/down into two different analog controller settings? I have dual Virpil Constellation Alphas and use the pinky sliders for up and down in space sims.
Auto-Pilot will also help you escape asteroids. :)
I second this. Setting a guidance point and pressing shift+A is a lot simpler. It's especially helpful for a new play through where you haven't gotten a captain yet.
I really wish they kept the x3 control layout.

Good stuff, but one thing you said left me wanting more. "just tell your co-pilot". Yeah, how do I get that? I walked around the station but didn't see one, and I was actually looking for a captain, but I didn't see any pilots.
... Does that mean if you pull the turn around trick, are you then considered oos for the entire map? or is that just a handy way of getting out of the roid? Would this help if you see another ship, say a xenon, do that to a station?

You can roll with all around engines. im flying with a stick btw. And you cant get a free frigate when playing terran starts

I ground almost 2000 hours in Elite Dangerous. Is this game better? Is it less of a grind? Immersion?
completely different. In Elite Dangerous you are a singular pilot, while X4 is more about empire building. Although you can do a playthrough as a single pilot in X4, it has more sandbox options
WTH is a PDQ? Personal defense quest?
Is it worth to visit the superhighway right off the bat to discover some sectors? Or does it somewhat make the game more difficult that i see those core sectors already, making economy more difficult, or just starting to spawn more Xenon? You know, if i dont see the problem (dont go a round on the highway) then its not there?:D
Every sector runs in the background whether or not you have discovered it, so no worries in opening up the map early
Some of the game dynamics are great...but the leggo ship designs totally suck... They should redesign all of them...
Oh, the stuck-in-the-asteroid trick is nice, I played this game from day one and didn't know about that trick to get out of asteroids. I am guessing that works for when you get stuck in a station also?
I haven't tried it on stations, but I would assume it would.

The Xenon invaded hatikvah's Choice no matter how many times i destroy the station and Build rack they keep supplying the RACk so Now I'm camping some ships there and now and then destroy the rack for free stock.
8th tip: *NEVER* engage xenon in the Elite Vanguard unless you REALLY know what you're doing (and you've both installed a plasma cannon and know WHEN to shoot because the xenon patterns are in loop charge in - disengage - spiral loop - disengage - charge in - disengage and are THE SAME for every ship size so you have to hit them when they charge in while taking some LEI on your face or when they disengage).
Elite were the elite back in X-BTF; now it should be called Argon Freakingnoob Vanguard.
Seriously, the *ARGON DISCOVERER* that was an ex M5 now it's better then this shitty ex M3! Before the discoverer was the startign useless ship now *YOU WOULD CRY TEARS OF JOY* for starting with such awesome ship that, while still sucking hard, *AT LEAST HAVE 2 GUNS.*

Men this poor elite vanguard. I imagine some skilled engeenier putting so much love into the design of it....(well, not in ANYTHING else then the design), but you really starting to hurt the feelings of that poor boat. Poor Elite vanguard......like that kid in school, pushed, punshed and just rammed out of the way by even the worst combat ships out there having no pilot on board. RIP vanguard in trash compactor.
