Thank you so much. I started playing bass 2 years ago, and Ive been struggling to think outside of the ionian mode.. especially with being able to move horizontally (I bought a 5 string to counteract it) But you saying that you think of the modes as a “reference” has truly unlocked an understanding for me that I think I can use to learn the whole fret board AND how to maneuver between chord changes 🤯🤗❤️
You explained an important point. The key doesn't change, just the starting note. It's like moving from 2 to 9 in a scale, or 3 to 10, 4 to 11, etc. I think players get confused, because that fundamental doesn't get explained. Once you get that, it's pretty simple.
Question; When you are playing from the Mode are you playing built from the A major scale A Maj scale A B C# D E F# G# A then when I play from the Lydian position I am using the following notes D E F# G# A B C#?
You always have to use the mode from the scale/key like key of A Lonian (major) is A and Dorian is B and so on if you're playing in C the C becomes Lonian and on and on
Bass player of 20+ years in punk/metal... now modes make sense! And easier to use than the "big book of bass scales" i bought as a teenager... Ty!
This is exactly what I needed to hear to connect the modes 🤯
This helps to bring clarity to what I've been struggling with. Thanks

@@Dave.1211 Thank you!
@@gmcilwain Just so there's no confusion, the mode for tonic is the Ionian mode (not Lonian)
