    RM: Tear- pronounced as in crying tears (grief)
    Suga: Tear- pronounced as in ripping apart (anger)
    J-Hope: Fear- rhymes w/ Tear (underlying feeling for both the grief and anger)

    The live version of this during the Love Yourself Tour is everything. Also the lyricism of this one is A+ quality and a play on English language (tear vs tear…yea). And years after it was released Suga let us know the song was written with the concept of BTS breaking up in mind and what emotions they would feel if that happened.
    RM’s verse - tear like crying. The sadness of breakup.
    Suga’s verse - tear like ripping. Tearing his heart out cause it hurts to breakup.
    J-Hope’s verse - fear. The fear of moving on. Fear of being without them.

    • @maria.9725
      @maria.9725 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@taequilasilver7183 If they had the same setlists, rapline were not so tired at that moment. After VR, they had Singularity (V), Fake Love (group), Seesaw (Suga), Epiphany (Jin), The Truth Untold (vocal line), and Outro: Tear (rapline). They had enough time to change the outfit and rest.
      Their performance always great but which one is better really depends on personal references. For me Seoul was better for the stage and fanchant, but I don't like the camera work and their shout "everybodies stand up" in the beginning. 😅 Osaka was good but the sun was still shine. In my opinion, the darkness really set the mood for Tear. So, I choose Wembley for the best. 😉

    This song is a sea of feelings. The story behind this song is that they wrote and worked on it when it was among their plans to disband due to the pressure they felt from their growing fame (fortunately they didn't). The striking thing is that this song hurt me even before I knew this story through SUGA, who told it. He also said they cried the first time they heard the song.
    Personally, the last verse of j-hope (Hoseok) hits me and gives me goosebumps, especially when they performed it during the Love Yourself tour.

  • @LoveYoonMin
    @LoveYoonMin 2 ปีที่แล้ว +49

    This was them singing/rapping about potentially disbanding in 2018. They cried on stage while accepting an award, sharing with their fans that they talked about it that time (thankfully they didn't). Both noun (for RM) and verb (for Suga) meanings of the word 'tear' was referred to in this song. Suga initiated the song writing process and Jhope and RM helped him complete it. Thank you for finally posting your reaction to this. 💜

  • @jayd5497
    @jayd5497 2 ปีที่แล้ว +106

    Most of us always thought Outro: Tear was simply completing the story of the Love Yourself series (wherein in this album, a person in love goes through the realization that loving someone could mean putting on "masks," and in the process of concealing your imperfections and shadows, the love you give is not real----a nod to the title track, Fake Love).
    ....UNTIL last year, when the their docuseries Break The Silence aired. Suga revealed that he wrote his verse when they were seriously contemplating their future as BTS. They were feeling the pressure of their growing fame and success, and I guess you could say it scared them.
    "We used to walk towards the same place, but here becomes our last.
    I thought we dreamed the same dream, but now the dream truly became just a dream.
    My heart breaks Please rather burn it, so that the pain and my lingering love don’t remain at all anymore."
    Realizing that these verses are not just about romantic love falling apart, but a real-life situation packed with the thoughts and feelings they were experiencing at the time (around 2018).... whew! That was a chill-down-the-spine moment for many of us! THANK GOD they powered on and continued to make music as a group!

    This is a sad song, and ARMY didn't even know it was about BTS themselves until much later after it its release, when Suga finally talked about it. It became even more poignant for ARMY because we didn't know that some members had considered not re-signing their new contract in 2018. 2018, we learned at the end of that year in a December Korean MAMA music awards show, was a very difficult year for BTS. There's video of BTS accepting Album of the Year and most of the members sobbing during their acceptance speeches as they realized all the hardships they went through that year ultimately culminated in triumph

    Tear in this song has two meanings. For RM, he used the word for tears from crying. For Suga, it is the physical tearing when something is ripped. Lastly, for J-Hope, it was the fear of talking after a breakup.
    "Goodbyes are T.E.A.R"
    - T.E.A.R means 4 tasks of mourning; Psychologist J. William Worden provides a framework of four tasks that help us understand how people journey through grief. Healing happens gradually as grievers address these tasks, in no specific order, going back and forth from one another over time.
    : Task 1: 'T'o Accept the Reality of the Loss
    : Task 2: 'E'xperience the pain of Grief
    : Task 3: 'A'djust to a World Without the
    Deceased
    : Task 4: 'R'einvest yourself into the world

  • @sugasmeow
    @sugasmeow 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Besides their possible break up, this song fits into the Love Yourself motif. The 3 LY albums go through the journey of discovering what love is. LY: Her is about finding that one true love that is destiny (DNA, Serendipity). LY: Tear is about how that perfect love gets torn apart (Fake Love, Singularity). Finally, LY: Answer gives us the answer to how to love. That is to learn to love yourself bc if you don’t love yourself you can truly love no one (Idol, Epiphany). Outer: Tear fits right into the LY: Tear motif. The word play around “tear” is what got me. RM is “teer”, Suga is “tare”, and Jhope is “fear.” RM is crying over this break up, Suga is being torn apart, and jhope is afraid of being apart. It’s a masterpiece of songwriting and emotion. The live performance is amazing. They embody each roll perfectly. I strongly suggest you watch the live version.

The live performance and the emotions that pour through every single line are so overwhelming that I'm left breathless with my jaw hanging open every single time the song reaches JHope's verse in the end and the effect stays the same no matter how many times I watch it. Another performance like that is their Born Singer. I have seen people recommend that in the comments and if you do plan on reacting to that then just a heads up that I'm not sure if the Born Singer performance might get blocked because it gets blocked for some people but maybe you can get around that. Thank you for reacting to this song.
    It's one of My favorite songs.
    No one knew they were even thinking of disbanding until they revealed themselves.
    Later, RM answered the questions about this on a personal broadcast.
    When Jin said this at the 2018 awards ceremony, V began to burst into tears so hard that he couldn't raise his head, and he still cry until he went home after changing into his casual clothes.
    It was a really difficult moment for everyone, but eventually they overcame it and returned to a stronger and deeper soul.
    Their songs contain many things they go through and feel in their life's journey, this song here contains really sad, painful, but meaningful moments.
    For great songs, these deep narratives make us feel more than music.

    This really is a sad song. The lyrics are so deep. Asking someone to completely obliterate your heart so that you don't feel the hurt is really sad. I think it becomes even more powerful when you learn that they wrote it when they were thinking about disbanding. In Vlive RM talked about how the words in the chorus mean something different for each member, for RM it's the physical tears from crying, for Suga it's the physical action of tearing something apart, and for Jhope it's the fear of breaking up. It must have been hard and taken a lot of courage to share this song, not just with us but with each other. To share that you're hurt in such a deep way and to verbalize that the dream you had worked on together had become just a dream - This kind of stuff is a very deep sharing. I feel very lucky that we got to hear this song and that we still have BTS. Thanks for another great reaction!

    If you could react to tear explained, that would be awesome! It has such a deep meaning. They wrote this while going through some hard times and even considered disbanding. When the members first listened to this song they all started crying.

    The word tear.. meant different for each of them.. for RM it was tears( crying), for suga it was Tear- ripping apart,. For jhope - it was fear..

    It's all about the live version! And Hobi (J-Hope) really shines, especially at the end with SUGA & RM on either side of him. You see the emotion he felt about BTS possibly breaking up. So powerful. So heartbreaking. Thank goodness they stayed together!

    You REALLY need to watch this live!!!! Please, please, please!! It does have A LOT of emotion! It was written when they were considering breaking up the group. When you listen to it thinking about that fact, it's heartbreaking!

    1. You MUST watch the live Wembley version. 2. Song is actually about the potential disbandment moment of BTS that happened in early 2018. Kernel of the song came from Suga's original lyrics. So, they let this loose on each other. Very, very emotional.

    GOD, the way Hobi’s voice gets so raw, like he’s on the verge of tears at 4:48 - chills every time. They are SO expressive and emotive. BTS rap line is actually unparalleled.

    This used to be just a fire song but then they mentioned in a documentary that Yoongi wrote it when they were contemplating breaking up. When the members listened to it, they all cried. By the way it's 3 ways. Tear (as in cry), tear (as in rip apart), and fear.

  • @jooniebug91

    This one in particular is a super deep song. This song hurts in particular because the song was written by rapline when BTS as a group were going through so much and considered disbanding. This is their feelings for each other and what parting/goodbye means to them. Ram's verse talks about how he is in denial and unable to accept the truth and that it's the end and then slow acceptance. Suga's verse is more about anger and hurt while Jhope talks about how he is scared of this. Everytime I listen to this I am like lot of other fans are reminded of the fact this will too one day end and we will have to say goodbye and we are not ready for it. Personally also people relate to this because we all have been through some sad goodbyes in our lives. It makes me super emotional every time I listen to this for so many reasons. All of their songs have deep meaning behind it. Not just rap but other songs too. You should check out the live performance of Tear tho.

    Thank you for this reaction, I love your channel !
    And you're right, it's super sad. When the song first dropped in 2018, we fans considered it to be like a universal break up song that goes well with the concept on their album Love Yourself Tear.
    Later on, Suga revealed : "The lyrics for Tear were written for the members. When I was writing the melody, at the time, we were deeply contemplating whether we should quit or not. When I played the song for the members, we all cried together."
    So now, ARMY see this song in a completely different and a more heartbreaking way.
    The live performance of this song is amazing too, please check it out if you want !

    I feel the same way about rap. I never really liked it or appreciated it until I found BTS, specifically Suga. One thing I love about their songs is that you can hear the emotion of the song through their voices without understanding the language.

    Has anyone told you yet that watching the live version of this song with English subtitles is so much more powerful? They perform it with so much rage and heartbreak that it adds a whole other layer to this song. I appreciate it so much more when it comes up on my Spotify playlist because I’ve seen the videos of them performing it live.

    They’re using both meanings of the word “Tear”
    RM uses tear to represent how much he’s cried as a result of a failed relationship
    Suga uses tear to represent the pain that a failed relationship can cause, likening it to having your heart torn/ripped apart
    Within the context of this song, the failed relationship in question was BTS as band mates/brothers bc this song was made by Suga while BTS were going through internal turmoil and considered disbanding.

    Since the song came out, we all just assumed this track was a breakup song in the most common sense. It was only until just last year when Yoongi was interviewed and revealed it was about their going through hard times and almost breaking up. We were SHOOK!
