The UCLA marching band is behind the band instrumental. This choreography is one of their hardest and the camera work is insane...absolutely love the song💜

According to BTS this is their hardest choreo. I interpret it as the most physically demanding to execute. Not necessarily the most difficult to learn. There are other more complicated choreos.

They actually performed this song live in Grand Central Terminal on the Jimmy Fallon show, so impressive! Also Jin, who looked like he was wearing a denim jacket, was actually wearing a black leather jacket but they thought there was too much black so they spray painted the front of it white lol I enjoy these reactions guys-keep going!
Also, recommendations: ‘Home’ and ‘Mikrokosmos’ performed in the Jimmy Fallon show, ‘Airplane Pt. 2’ and ‘Fake Love’ MV’s, and the ‘Baepsae’ dance practice followed by an explanation video (I like the one by DKDKTV). Enjoy the rabbit hole!

Using closed captions is always a must for BTS MVs. This song is off Map of the Soul 7 which uses Swiss psychologist Carl Jungs ideas about Persona, Shadow, and Ego. On it each rapper did a solo song on the album each delving into one of those topics: RM had a really thoughtful view to kick it off in a high energy Persona, Suga had a very personal darker and intense introspection on his Shadow, and JHope had an extremely dance upbeat Ego. The three songs are linked lyrically with some questions they ask in one answered in another. Getting to “On” this song also refers to the Shadow (and V had the words written on his face “the shadow within”) and is a motivational song about getting through struggles “…With each step then again grows the shadow…. Look at my feet, look down, The shadow resembles me, Is it the shadow that's shaking, Or is it my feet that are trembling, Of course I'm not unafraid, Of course it's not all okay”. This has some fantastic lyrics about BTS’s own struggles and how they are not giving up “bring the pain on” and they discuss how the struggles are incorporated into them and what makes us each who we are. Musically it’s a huge high energy song with some of the most exhausting choreography around, lyrically it’s another deep one that has helped myself and many many others get through tough times.
    “Jimin and V:
I can't understand what people are sayin'
Who and what do I need to follow
With each step then again grows the shadow
Where is this place I open my eyes to
Maybe Seoul or New York or Paris
I get up, unsteady on my feet
    RM:
Look at my feet, look down
    The shadow resembles me
Is it the shadow that's shaking
Or is it my feet that are trembling
    Of course I'm not unafraid
Of course it's not all okay
    But I know
    Awkwardly I flow
I fly together with that black wind
    Jimin, Jungkook, and Jin:
    Hey na-na-na
Gotta go insane to stay sane
    Hey na-na-na
Throw myself whole into both worlds
    Hey na-na-na
Can't hold me down 'cuz you know I'm a fighter
Carried myself into this beautiful prison
Find me and I'm gonna live with ya
    All BTS:
    Eh-Oh
Bring it, bring the pain, oh yeah
    Eh-Oh
Come on up, bring the pain, oh yeah
    Rain be pourin'
    Sky keep fallin'
    Everyday oh na-na-na
    Eh-Oh
Bring it, bring the pain, oh yeah
    J- Hope:
    Bring the pain
It'll become my blood and flesh
    Bring the pain
No fear, now that I know the way
    Breathe on the small things
My air and my light in the dark
The power of the things that make me, "me"
Even if I fall, I come right up, scream
    Suga:
Even if I fall, I come right up, scream
    That's how we've always been
Even if my knees drop to the ground
As long as they don't get buried
    It won't matter
    Win no matter what
Whatever you say, whatever they say
    I don't give a uhh
    I don't give a uhh
    I don't give a uhh, yeah
    Chorus
    Jungkook and Jimin:
    Where my pain lies
    Let me take a breath
    My everythin'
    My blood and tears
    Got no fears
    I'm singin' ohhhhh
    Oh I'm takin' over
    You should know yeah
Can't hold me down 'cuz you know I'm a fighter
Choosing to descend into the dark abyss
Find me and I'm gonna bleed with ya
    Chorus
    Eh-Oh
Bring it, bring the pain, oh yeah
    Eh-Oh
Come on up, bring the pain, oh yeah
    All that I know
Is just goin' on & on & on & on
    Eh-Oh
Bring it, bring the pain, oh yeah

In "Black Swan" they crashed with the shadow and explored it. At the beginning of "On" they are bruised from the encounter but they also know what to do now. So they begin to face the "shadow"/the uncounscious/ the fear of losing their passion. The dance break is that fight that this time they win and succeed in their task to become more whole. Which is the end of the journey of discovery of self.
"Bring the pain on" because meeting the shadow hurts/frightens but you can't run. It is part of us. If we run it will surpise us when we least expect it: what do you think a "midlife crisis" is? But searching out hurt when you seemingly don't need to is "insane". If you don't do it though you won't stay "sane" with the crisis following. In other words do it on your own terms before you are forced to and it hits you harder.
At least that is my impression. Borahae! 💜

@3:30 when the break happens and they’re all lined up before the solo, they are actually lined up from oldest to youngest in the group:
Jin- oldest who turns 29 yrs old tomorrow (12/4/21). Company wanted him for his looks and pretty much trained him to be a singer and dancer, I think starting at age 21. His nickname is World Wide Handsome- if you’re curious there are videos out there that explains it. He’s also the comedian in the group.
Suga- his name comes from his position as shooting guard when he played basketball in school. He only wanted to rap and produce music. He didn’t want to dance and the company “tricked” him to get on board telling him he didn’t have to dance.
J-Hope- the lead dancer for the group. He helps the team learn their choreo. He almost quit the group and HE LOVES SPRITE! Lol.
RM- leader of the group and the first to be signed up for the group. Super smart guy.
Jimin- his background is contemporary dance and the last to join the group. He has a special talent known as the Jimin Effect 🤣. He has the high pitch voice when singing. Plus his more feminine face and certain hairstyles, a lot of reactors confuse him to be a woman at first.
V- sings baritone and has a very soulful sound. You have to check out his solo: Singularity. He also does acting. He coined a word special to fans/ARMY- borahae which means I 💜 you. Bora is purple in Korean.
Jungkook- pure talent. He is good at EVERYTHING. He’s the youngest, the main vocalist, and one of the 3 main dancers (ie, always front and center). He used to also rap in their early years. He was sought out by multiple agencies, but he chose Big Hit because he saw RM, like him and wanted to be with him. He’s RM’s biggest fan 😁.
ARMY is the name of the BTS fandom which stands for Adorable Representative M.c. for Youth.

They all write songs, but RM and Suga write a lot of the group’s lyrics. Most things that come out of RM’s mouth are poetic. He has the second most song credits of anyone on the Korean charts (almost 200), and he is still very young. Like many of them, there is a duality to him - he is a fierce rapper, but he loves nature, modern art, reading, crabs. He is very emotionally intelligent, takes good care of the group, and was a big part of setting the tone that BTS works together rather than competes with one another, which is part of why they work together so well and have stayed together so long. BTS is often compared to the Beatles, and the fame and other pressures drove the rakes apart in only 4 years or so. All the members are crazy charismatic on stage, and they are all super sweet guys who genuinely care about each other and their fans.

    • @mck1542
      @mck1542 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Such stellar info! This may have already been covered along the way but I think it’s notable that group leader RM (given name is Namjoon) is the only member who was fluent in English since day 1. He’s self-taught and tells the story that he learned from watching the series Friends on DVD as a kid. The other members are learning the language and appear to understand a lot, but regularly express appreciation to RM for carrying the water that enabled them to do media interviews and appearances in English speaking countries. After spending several weeks in LA recently for the AMAs, four sold out concerts, and other activity RM essentially said during a livestream that he’s looking forward to going home to Korea so he can give his mind rest and only have to speak one language.

Hello! Just found this channel yesterday and have enjoyed all your reactions up until now. I think you guys are doing a fair job in trying out different sounds like Dionysus, Mic Drop and Black Swan as well as their English Trilogy which has a more pop sound and the deeper cuts of some rap line tracks like UGH and Ddaeng. I have some recommendations if you want to explore their diverse range:
    - Spring Day (about a national tragedy), Life Goes On (about the onset of COVID), Blue and Grey: ballads
    - Cyphers pt 1-4, Outro: Tear : rap line songs (amazing flows and beats)
    - House of Cards, The Truth Untold: vocal line songs (slower, darker tracks)
    - Airplane pt 2 (Latin-infused sound) (be careful of copyright), Dis-ease (throwback hip-hop)
    - Fake Love (the original has a music video but I would also recommend the Rocking Vibe mix keeping in mind your tastes) as well as Danger (an older more rock-sound-inspired track)
    - Paradise, Tomorrow, Magic Shop, Answer: Love Myself (deep messages of comfort)
-Go Go, Silver Spoon, Spine Breaker, No More Dream, N.O. (talking about society and it's problems)
Diving into each members solo tracks I would recommend two each so you can see the different styles they try:
    - RM: (Persona) (tokyo)
    - Jin: (Epiphany) (Abyss)
    - SUGA: (Daechwita) (The Last)
    - j-hope: (Airplane) (Blue Side)
    - Jimin: (Lie) (Promise)
    - V: (Singularity) (Winter Bear)
    - Jungkook: (My Time) (Still With You)
I know this is a lot (LMAO) but their discography is vast, and this is a small taste that is a good first few steps! I've described them so that you can pick and choose according to what the mood and plan is. Have a fun journey with BTS- it's nothing but a good time in here!

Black Swan and ON are closely related thematically. They’re both ‘Shadow’ songs. A good one for you to try next would be Interlude: Shadow, which is a Suga rap-heavy song from earlier in the sequence. Very different feel from Black Swan and ON.
Oh, I should have said that Interlude: Shadow is in some ways linked to Daechwita, which is one of Suga’s solo songs (where he goes by the name Agust-D), it’s a masterpiece which I know a few people have recommended to you.

    • @justnic3305
      @justnic3305 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Please know that the music video for Interlude: Shadow is missing a very important verse. it was meant to be more like a trailer video for their album. A lyric video of that song first then the mv would be a good way to go. Also Daechwita is brilliant both visually and sonically (2 main characters in the mv, both are Agust D/SUGA - some people get confused). Highly recommend along with the explanation video by Bookish Theories.

One if the first things everyone has to learn about BTS is not to try and identify them by hair color or style. It can change literally from one hour to the next. LOL
On still gives me tingles. That dance break, the marching band, the dancers (a group called The Lab from LA, who BTS have worked with a number of times, including their 4 recent LA shows), Jungkook's breakdown (which we also heard him pull off just sitting in a car on James Corden's Carpool Karaoke-- another highly recommended video, as you get to see more of their personalities. ) ON us just an incredible jam that there performed in places like Grand Central Station and Seoul World Cup Stadium (with a full marching band, cheerleaders, and all.

Don't forget the subtitles. You can watch a lyric video, then the mv(same reaction). Or read the lyrics before watching. Their songs have such amazingly written lyrics that tackle so many things. They talk or call out social/cultural issues with "Baepsae (Silver Spoon)", "N.O." & "Spine Breaker". Mental health issue's they've experienced like depression and anxiety “The Last' - Agust D(Suga)", "Blue and Grey", and about learning to love and accept yourself "Epiphany - Jin", "Magic Shop" & "Cypher 4 - Rap Line".
They've also called out haters in "Mic Drop", "Not Today" & "DDAENG". But they never call out a specific person/group. "If you think it's about you, that's your problem."

I have really been enjoying your videos since your first BTS post. I am looking forward to it every day.
And if you are not aware, if you click the "CC" button on the YT video, you will get English lyrics on almost all of the BTS videos that come from their channel. But if it comes up as (auto-generated) they are useless at translating.
Some of BTS's many main attractions are their lyrics after all.
    Edit: Spelling error

ON came out in February 2020, and November 27, 2021 was the first time BTS had been able to perform it in front of ARMY. Try Black Swan. It's one of top tiers of BTS songs.
Try to remember the name by their voice, it's easier than by their face/hair. Then divide it for Rapline (RM, Suga, j-hope) and vocal line (Jin, Jimin, V, JK). Most army gone through this difficulty at first. But now we can differenciate them by their shadow. 😁

A few interesting facts about the mv for BTS "ON" official video:
The dance portion was choreographed by Sienna Lalau, from the LA area when still in her teens. She appears in the video leading the dancers up front & center at the beginning of the video.
Sienna also choreographed BTS's "Dionysus" performance dance (watch it live, amazing) and J-hope's "Chicken Noodle Soup " (and dances in it also).
The dancers were from THE LAB, a multinational dance troup Sienna works with & who BTS has used while on tour in the US.
The band appearing in the mv is "The Blue Devils", a competitive Drum and Bugle Corp .
The video was filmed at the Sepulveda dam outside LA.

The choreo for this was exhausting. If you watch the practice session for this you can hear the support dancers (The Lab) shouting at the boys to keep going. (Look at the version with subtitles). Doing this out in the hot LA Sun at the Sepulveda Dam was incredible. The young lady you see in the centre of the dancers with her hair in a braid is the choreographer for this, Sienna Lalau. She was 19 when she did it and has also contributed to the choreo on other BTS dances including Dionysus. You should also watch the behind the scenes making of this. Poor V was hit just below his eye by his zip and very nearly had a bad accident. You’ll be able to see the writing in his face and the thorns drawn on his neck. Each time they have done this he has had a more extensive thorn pattern drawn. He had it for the online PTD show from Seoul but not the PTD LA concerts.

This song was their opening song at their 4 day, sold out, Stadium Concert, that just ended on December second. They played the song 'ON' perfectly, with amazing energy and the same choreography without the dance break. Then they Performed Fire, Dope, and DNA. All with amazing energy and choreography. Then they took a 10 minute break for a costume change, and came out for their second set. I don't know where they get their energy, but they are even better in concert. Best concert and performance I've ever experienced. They had 25 songs on their setlist. Think about that for a moment, it just amazes me.

Fun fact: he isn't actually wearing a denim jacket. It is a normal black leather jacket that was last minute spray painted silver (literally on set minutes before filming). Cause no matter your usual 'taste' people can't deny the energy, the bits, the productions, the lirics, the mv, the choreography.. And yeah all have a catchy part that you end up singing around the house. And of course I still listen to music from any of the last 4..5 decades, so why not something so fresh?
