    I sold my ESEE 6 and bought this knife. I like this one better, especially the handle.

  • @BDUB-vo6pl

    Being a more tactical knife it makes sense having the balance being a little heavier toward the handle for quicker slashing and such. I noticed if you grip farther toward the end of the handle so that your index finger is behind the cut out for the guard the balance feels better for chopping.
    I went ahead and stripped the coating off of mine and squared the spine. Now it throws sparks off a Ferro Rod quite nice. I also coated my handles with a rubberized/truck bed liner type coating which makes it a lot more grippy, plus gets rid of the dookie brown color you love so much...

      It’s a nice solid tans with only two small holes! Solid! Not skeletonized or weight reduction slots that can store fish hooks and line.

    Love this knife. Jesse Jarosz has a custom called the Turok-Mid. I haven’t seen offered in a while but the proportions look sweet. And the SMKW store is INCREDIBLE!!! Can’t wait to go back there!

    That seems like a really nice knife, I personally like Brown handles, though they might not be my first choice. I appreciate your honest reviews, especially the First Impressions. I'm happy SMKW is your sponsor, they hire good people. We've been customer's of their's for a long time, and they've always been good to us. Anyway, good review!

    I need more cowbell baby! Nice review (as always), been eyeing this one for awhile. Just FYI, the designer, Jesse Jarosz, stripped the coating from the swedge so it can be used on a ferro rod.

    I have one of those knives which I got in January and love it so much. After getting the BK2 from Ka-Bar I decided to buy another of their knives and is happy with this one. This knife is not a regular hunting knife and I would not want to have it on my utility belt when camping, but as an alternative it is nice and good for general purpose use.
    I was in the Air Force and got to work with the Marines and Navy personnel at 29 Palms, Miramar, Pt. Magu, El Toro, and Camp Pendleton while in California. The Army personnel was the worst I worked with and their Green Berets out of Ft. Lewis was the best of their group.

    Great video Sir. I just picked up the Thunder Horse Knives thrower from KABAR. It is a bad ass chunk of steel. I'm going to put some scales on it. The handle is big so I may have to grind some steel to fit the hand better

    I love my turok. I switch up but usually have my BK-2 on my belt with another knife on my shoulder. The turok Has been there since I got it. I wish I could put some micarta handles on but can’t find aftermarket handles for this knife ANYWHERE. I settled for some grip tape. I’m in the south so my hands are almost always sweaty. The grivory is very comfortable but I wanted better grip. I agree about the coating. I like this better than what came on my bk series knives. I only paid $75 and in my opinion it was an excellent price for a great knife

    I went with the Turok over the Esee 6. The handle ergonomics are excellent and I like the brown. This knife has impressed me in so many ways. I also own this knifes little brother the Globetrotter, they are both excellent knives. I didn’t gravitate towards the Choppa, I preferred the Esee Junglas another awesome knife in my cutlery arsenal. Thank you for a good, honest review.

  • @Sherrodja
    @Sherrodja 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I bought the Turok when it was first released.. really good knife. It will sorta throw sparks but yeah the spine could be squared up. I strapped a ferro rod and striker kit to the sheath..problem solved. The sheath is great for a factory sheath so you don't have to resheath the knife from the get go. The handle scales are ok but would prefer micarta. Overall it's a great general purpose camp and field knife and the sheath is reversible so lefties will appreciate it also...Good review.

    • @eddierodriguez7250
      @eddierodriguez7250 2 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @timbo4374
    @timbo4374 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes, there are after market scales available out there for it. It's one of the K-Bars that mod well. I know not everyone likes wood scales from a grip standpoint, but there are some really beautiful ones available on EBay. I've seen micarta as well.

    I sharpened half of the top swedge on mine to the tip. And scout carry on my back when hunting. I added a Schrade ferro rod from a schf 56m. I dyed the handle scales on my Turok black. It’s a great pig sticker now, that can start a fire if my zippo gets lost.

    Hello Chris, thanks for the great review. The Kabar Turok looks like it's passing all the tests. It has a good price point under $90. The feathering process is quite impressive as well as the batonninh. Good point, about squaring off the spine. Write it up, I
    Will buy it. 🤗

  • @EarlyMist
    @EarlyMist 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I like this knife. It's in my BOB. It fits that purpose perfectly for me. I broke the tip on my first one with some very light prying and Kabar replaced it no worries with a good explanation on my part with photos provided. Still, I would never abuse the tip of my replacement....it's just not built for it.
    As far as brown goes? I like it 😂. I would like some after markets but its just not worth it. Wrap in the rough version of Wilsons and done.

      i think brown handled knives are fine, but what i hate is the bright greens, and oranges, and stuff like that, needless to say i have never bought an esee knife. I think that it is fine for a knife to have bright accents, but the whole thing does not need to be bright neon yellow. :)

    The only thing I don't like about that knife is the end. If it had an end like the schf 56m It would be my perfect camp knife. I'm gonna buy one anyway and cut the end.weld some steel on, and shape it to what I want with some Brazilian cherry scales. I think it's a really nice knife, and more durable than the schf42d.

    I'm 4 years late to the party but it's still the same, I wish it was OD green. Brown works, but I live up on the Sierras around Tahoe. I'll be honest if it's a survival/bushcrafting/hiking knife, it'd prefer orange handle to see it easier. If i'm strapping it to a plate carrier, I'd prefer OD green as up here anyway, FDE/Browns stand out more than greens at range around home. Drive 20 minutes down the hill towards the valley and FDE would be first choice followed by desert tan with green being last, but up in these woods, Greens and Grays. Lots of large cedar, pines, some oak, sage bush etc. I'm rambling. Old video. Comment for the algorithm that fed this to me.

When we doing refresher training with the Marines during WESTPAC they drank up all the real milk, ate all the real eggs, and trashed the ice machine. By the time we were ready for liberty in the Philippines we were down to powdered eggs, powdered milk, and bug juice with no ice. The chiefs we squirreling away any decent coffee left. I don't understand the obsession with having a 90° angle on the back for striking a ferro rod. I don't think I've ever used a knife as a striker, other than to try it out. 9,999 times out of 10,000, I'm gonna have a striker for my ferro rod. And, 10,000 of those times, I'm probably going to have and use something better than a ferro rod to start a fire with, anyway. I have one or two in my pack, but the only way I'm using that, is if I run out of lighters, matches, fresnel lenses, and bow drills 😆

    I was wondering if you'd ever played with one. I reviewed it last year, but I suck at knife reviews. I'm considering killing a pig with it tomorrow. 🤔🗡🐗
    Btw, you can take that nylon belt loop off and run your belt through hard plastic sheath, it's great like that.

    It looks like another short-handle "Tops" knife...Why can't knife makers make knives for us guys with large size hands ?
