Will this work on an old gaming laptop? I have an Asus tuf fx 504ge with one M.2 slot. I'm planning to do this project but wanna make sure if it's possible since it had a dedicated gpu (gtx 1050ti) and I think the cpu is still capable it has an i7 8750h.
I got the M.2 M-Key to PCIe 4.0x4 External Graphics Card Stand Bracket, which I'm planning to use with a 7900 XTX GPU. I also purchased an 850W power supply, anticipating future upgrades. I followed your instructions and connected all the cables correctly. The GPU has three PCIe power connections. The power supply came with two PCIe cables, each with a split connector. So, I connected one cable directly to the GPU, used the split (ponytail) for the second connection, and connected the other cable directly for the third connection. However, when I power it on, I hear the power supply click as if it's drawing power, but nothing else happens. The power supply fan doesn't spin, and the GPU doesn't power on either. I initially thought the power supply might be defective, so I tried another 850W unit, but the same thing happened-just a click, and then nothing. Could you help me figure out what I might be doing wrong? Do I need to use a specific GPU cable or connect to the max 180W on the bracket?

Thats called a PCI-E "Slot or Port" not Lane, the slot contains 4 lanes to be precise but the slot is a 16 lane slot but electrically only 4 are wired. I'm sorry but hearing lane every time instead of slot, it actually is bothers me. Especially since hearing lane makes it sound like there is only one lane available, which is incorrect. Also you bent the crap out of the Oculink cable, you are supposed to not use large bends in that so the wiring doesn't get damaged. since the frequency the data runs through that is sensitive to issues with the cable, especially the length even.
idk, is the sponsor legit? cuz im kinda concerned on getting a windows 11 pro for like $40, kinda sketch, if you could reply please tell if its not a scam.
This is sick! I had no idea nvme to occulink was possible. I wonder how this compares to usb4? Occulink as a standard is better for sure, but idk how much performance you lose through this config.
I got much better results from this compared to USB4 - mostly in the 1% lows (so guessing theres less stutters) Apparently a direct oculink to oculink connection is the absolute GOAT when it comes to performance though.
*HOW TO GET TB3/4/USB4* If you really want a proper Usb4 experience with the full 40 Gbps you can use an m.2 to usb4 enclosure (works with tb) you just need to make sure it uses the ASM2464PD. As for why that controller, it is because older tb controllers can only utilize 32 of the 40 Gbps. Q&A But won't it introduce too much latency? H61 is more expensive, and worse performance. $200 PC is very difficult to do without x79 or x99, unfortunately. $300 PC is possible, but $200 I'd argue that unless you find some insane local deals, it pretty much should be x99
