      Exactly what I was thinking. As a lifelong biker I’m always glad to see car drivers giving bikers a bit of space. A fast car is always going to be quicker than fast bike but the risk factor is far higher for a rider. Ultimately, we drive and ride for leisure. Massive kudos to both the 911 driver and the M1 rider.👍🏼👏🏼

      Depends on the track. World super bikes have some faster times 1:21.8 at Laguna seca for example. Finally a GTLM corvette C8 race car beat that time this year. The higher up the racing chain ie Formula 1 there’s no comparison due to incredible down force. The more stock they are giving equally talented rider /driver it all depends on the track. Isle of Man is a bike track cars cannot compete with the bikes but Nurburgring is a car dominated track for sure. Either way braking belongs to cars acceleration generally to bikes. They both corner at over 1G but downforce makes a huge difference as does bumps track conditions and transitioning directions RT LT RT etc cars are quicker at that.

    Power to weight is the key. The bike has the power but the car has the better brakes & bigger tyre contact patches. The Yammy R1 is an awesome bike. The Porsche is an amazing car. But it takes more skill to go round a track fast on a bike. Good video 👍

    • @MarcoVB
      @MarcoVB 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There is no such thing as "bigger tyre contact patches", traction = weight and not area, you're right about power to weight being the main factor, the difference in curve relates to the way cars/bikes are "steering".

    • @RichardASK
      @RichardASK 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Hynea But then it also depends on the hysteresis/grippyness of the tyre. I don't know what tyres the R1 rider was using(Race or Road), but he was using them bloody well. As some road car people find, there is an ideal point, where the contact patch of the tyre(width), its hysteresis and the weight of the vehicle load are at an optimum for their use. However, it's very easy to go the wrong way, if either of the above parameters are wrong. Lets not get into different types of road surface and coefficient of friction. Easy to see why it's such a 'dark art' for F1 drivers to get their tyres switched on, at just the right point in a qualifying lap.

      @@MarcoVB If it were that simple F1 cars would all use bicycle tires. Good rider in this video, building speed so he is not caught out by cold tires. Good driver for remaining patient. For what you can see on the videos, both drivers are hobby drivers. As the car drivers constraint is the bike, maybe the potential of the car driver is a lot higher as what is visible. Maybe also the bike driver is a lot more skilled. But judged by the cars speed and the line taken by the bike, this was a just for fun round. Braketime was very eary, corner speed was low, line wasn't a race line. Acceleration itself doesn't need lots of skills. The bike has 1ps / kg, TCS, SCS, LIF, QSS, PWR, YRC and most likely even more features. You just go max wrist and the bike makes the most of it.

    Best lap for a street legal Porsche Turbo S on the 20.8 km circuit, is 7 minutes 17.11 seconds, average speed 171.33 km/hr.

    If you look at the minimum speeds in the Porsche, he's driving it very gingerly! Aremberg for example: without going nuts, most cars I've driven apex at around 60mph on normal road tyres. I've just checked my Elise in-car video (a careful lap done on holiday - it was my only road car at the time and I certainly wasn't pushing) and it was bang on 60mph (standard Elise S2 111S). If you watch other ring laps I'm sure this is fairly typical. This guy's going about 45-50mph min speed through there (doesn't reach 60mph until halfway through the exit on the power), maybe held up by the bike I guess? If that's the case - neither were truly on it, and my message to anyone in the comments is that these were two guys enjoying themselves in close proximity to each other, not trying to show which is quicker.

I'd say the main differences between the bike and car comes down to power to weight ratio and tire grip. As for which is faster....in my opinion, that bike was at its limits and seemed to be searching for grip and stability...at times. I did not see the Porsche unsettled at any point on the track but a little heavy on corner exits compared to the bike (but then again, there was more than one passenger in the 911). Given the strengths of both machines, I'd say the 911 would beat the Yamaha on a fair ring time comparison.

      Yeah a proper Isle of Man TT Rider like Peter Hickman would have the stones to do it and the talent as well. Put him on some 15 year newer machinery then the time would drop 30 seconds or so. With the extra 25 -40 HP depending on the bike, better handing , even traction control and a world class rider, below 7 mins is definitely possible!

      HyperCar categories are McLaren senna P1 Ferrari Laferrari Porsche 918 Spyder Zx10R beats them on Spa track but not senna
      Only senna is the car that can go head to head these Ducatis around a track I'll be honest but bike like Ducati V4 Superleggera And V4R can beat senna on Longer tracks like Silverstone nurburghing etc.

    I could rip the two of you a new one on a 1999 Yam R6 no joke. Why was his knee out all the time with zero body shifting on the bike? New rider he needs to learn the trade on a 300cc. I've seen plenty of older guys 60+ that adapted the zero seat shift riding style and a lot of bigger guys maybe 6ft5" 17+stone guys ride the bike without moving about on it but this style is not suited to knee out as you are relying on your body as a tube to force the bike about, in contrast a proper riding style where you are constantly moving about on the seat using the tank as a chest pivot is beneficial to have the knee out as you're effectively relying on the bike naturally steering tight while on the throttle as your entire body is hung off it like a monkey. This rider has confused styles and his line discipline is that of a newer rider too. I can happily tip up and smoke anyone who's got anything to say about what I've just stated. Just let me know as I beat TurboS for fun
