@@hell-bentfpv Also another milestone for me. I just completed my 1st tree rescue yesterday. Many fishing poles joined together and a ladder later I got it back.
So what you’re saying is you didn’t know what to buy, bought a drone designed for stills and cinematic video, got bored because you had no interest in that, then repeated the same mistake for some unknown reason, then bought another drone to fly FPV. Why exactly did you not do your research in the first place?
@@BlownMacTruck When a random stranger starts off with "so what your saying is" 🤣.I don't need anyone to tell me what I'm saying...You don't know me. So you don't know how I think. I didn't ask for your opinion. You sound like Cathy Newman. Thank you now. Have a nice day. Hope you enjoy your FPV drone flying.
Awesome story to which I can relate. FPV changed my life too. Have been flying LOS quads since 2014 but FPV was not on my radar until 2020 and since then, I've been flying FPV and haven't stopped - and will never stop. Sure I've spent thousands on hardware and crashed hundreds of times but the feeling you have for those few minutes when airborne are amazing and even better when you've experienced flow state.
That means a lot. I've taken the feedback from everyone saying that they wish it was longer and will try to apply that to future content. There is a "part 2" of this coming in a couple of months. I would release it sooner but it contains an announcement that I can't risk getting out too soon so it has to wait...
wonderful video, that soldering shot is beautiful man! your framing could sometimes use some work but holy shit am I glad I found your channel! I love the way you talked about your journey, its inspiring, I'm on the verge of getting into fpv, I have a drone and I'm getting myself an fpv controller to start practicing in the simulator. I cant wait to eventually make a video like yours, I may not be in uni or a dead end job but I 've been very lost until I found photography/cinematography and drones!
Great video! And awesome story. As an owner of the Dji vpf as well as the avata and the goggles integra, do I have to buy any other transmitter or goggles to use different drones or can I use the Dji setup on other, pre-built drones? I want to get into building my own drones but I've got the big question mark in my head wether I will be able to use my current gear for it or buy special rc and goggles. Hope you can help me out here.
You can use your current setup for anything with a DJI digital FPV system of some kind in it. I can highly recommend the O3 air unit as the quality will be just like flying your Avata. The only thing I would say is that if you want to fly long-range I would recommend investing a bit in an ELRS transmitter and a drone with a matching receiver. The DJI remote isn't great for range. Otherwise go for it!
I started with building my own 5 inch freestyle quad. DJI is very expensive for me. I am now dreaming about building a tinywhoop that can improve my flying skills. Initially I didn't have an FPV system so I was flying LoS in angle mode. Later I spent many hours in the sim and bought an FPV goggle and integrated FPV into the drone. I had my maiden FPV flight in acro-trainer mode and it was nerve wracking. One minute into the flight, I got a good hang of it and I didn't crash. I had trouble landing the drone in acro mode, so I bring the drone up above in front of me, switch to Angle mode, and land gracefully in LoS. A few times I had to flick GPS rescue switch to bring back the drone. It works well in Betaflight 4.5 RC2 onwards reliably.
Keep Going my mate! :D you are doing awsome! :D I wish I had that commitment you have! I have abnadoned my channel few years ago. Willing to retake, luckily I'd be buying a mavic avata 2 withing the next couple o' months! :D new suscriber earned man!
This is amazing, I just released a doco style video about my first month and my general understanding of the scene, did a bit of a dive into creators and bind and fly kits etc Parallels in our videos between the early dji section is uncanny! Bare in mind I am onoy a month in, just on tiny whoops. Will get a real quad soon enough 😊 Love the video and your progression, inspiring thanks!
A second part is in the works, but it includes some information that I can't risk getting out early, so that one can be expected some time in June. I might make an intermediate video sharing some of the mistakes that I made and how to avoid them as it has been far from smooth sailing.
Thanks, you don't need to spend a ton of money on an expensive quad and goggles to get into the hobby. I bought my first "real" FPV drone second hand (the one featured briefly in the video) for under $200 CAD. I was out flying today with a guy who's entire analog setup costs less than just my goggles, so you don't need to shell out for the fancy stuff if you don't want to. The best drone for you is the one you can afford so that you can get up in the air!
@@AviationBelgium I would actually recommend skipping the DJI FPV Remote 2. That's what I used to use, but it is expensive, has small gimbals, poor range, and not enough switches for when you end up with a real quad. That said, if you want to go first-party DJI, it's fine. I still use it as a sim controller from time to time. Otherwise I would buy something like a Radiomaster Pocket (if you are tight on funds), Zorro (which is what I have now), or really any other ELRS remote apart from the BetaFPV ones, not much point to those anymore now that the Pocket exists...
@@AviationBelgium You can use an ELRS transmitter with any drone fitted with an ELRS receiver, which is a separate component. The O3 then only handles video signal, and the receiver handles the radio control link. One of the issues with the FPV Remote 2 being paired directly to the O3 is that if you lose video signal, 9 times out of 10 you also lose control of the quad and it failsafes. With a separate, more reliable control link like ELRS, you have a chance to still flip into angle mode and/or punch the throttle to climb above the obstruction and regain video, reducing the risk of losing/crashing the quad. All of my O3 equipped drones are fitted with an ELRS receiver, and I wouldn't have it any other way. The FPV Remote 2 is also just really expensive for what it delivers, so isn't really the best way to get into the hobby imo
I was really inspired by your video and have been wanting to get into FPV for a while now. I have had other small dji drones like the Spark but I really want to get into FPV. I've researched and found that the DJI avata is a really great drone and possibly even better. I also want to train on the simulator first but I want to make sure to purchase the controller that will be more beneficial in the long run because I don't want to be limited by DJI in the long run. I am going into college so am on a budget but I really do want to capture top notch footage and would like to build a custom drone at some point with a better action camera. What are your thoughts on where I should start and if I should just go with the avata or train on the sim and then build my own drone.
How much you enjoy flying in the sim will be a better indicator of your long-term enjoyment of the hobby. I see new listings for Avatas and DJI FPVs every day from people who bought them, didn't like flying them, and are now trying to offload them. They are somewhat limiting when it comes to their flight characteristics and unlike other BNFs, you can't even tune them. If I was to do it all over again, I would buy something like the radiomaster pocket and learn on the sim first. That controller is a great budget option for learning the sim and also has built-in ELRS so you can use it with pretty much any BNF quad on the market. ELRS recievers are also much cheaper than Crossfire so if you want to build your own quad that is an advantage as well. That way you can get into it for cheaper and have a better overall experience. The temptation to get out flying right away was what lead to me buying the DJI FPV in the first place and while it don't regret doing so, I wouldn't really recommend it, especially if your budget is tight. If you do want to go the DJI route, they just released the Avata 2 this morning which apparently flies much better than its predecessors...
@@hell-bentfpv Thanks so much for your feedback! This is some really solid and helpful info. I will probably start with the radiomaster pocket. Will I need goggles to start flying in the simulator? If so, what are your suggestions on good quality goggles that are not too expensive that would be beneficial in the long run considering I want to work towards building my own drone!
That is entirely up to you. I've had them all, and I've gotta say I get more use out of my 7in than out of my cinewhoop, but that's only because the areas around me where I can fly are more suited to long-range and the only things I chase are cars and other drones. If you want to do a lot of slow, cinematic flying in tight spaces or near unprotected subjects, a cinewhoop will suit you better. If you want something cool, just buy the 7 inch. Sounds and looks sick, weirdly fun to fling around, and is a lot of fun if you have other friends to fly with. Had a buddy chasing my Chimera around yesterday, and we had a blast
