Love this piece. Compact and streamlined, no posturing or dramatic gestural filler, nothing outstays its welcome, just a wealth of expressive ideas strung together in a coherent and pleasing way. Marvelous and charming interpretation. Makes me think the orchestra is, in essence, a single violin and the rest is just acoustic baggage.

I am always fascinated by his string works, interestingly melodic. Played several his andante pieces, and the texture of this second mmt is not quite complicated but I do like it very much.

How many years of violin practice at least to arrive at this intimidating piece please? Although it depends on many things and varies from one person to another...Thanks

Great rendition of a wonderfully modern yet lyrical solo sonata. There seems like there's a weird glitch in the recording at 11:07 though. The b flat in the third measure of the page has a doorbell sounding harmonic. Strange.

Great characterful playing I think but too fast, as the first movement is marked Moderato, which is around 86 bpm. I have listened to many modern versions of this piece and everyone plays it too fast for my liking. The version I like is by Ladislav Jasek, who by playing at 86 allows time for expression and he puts soul into it. At first his version seems pedestrian in comparison but it grows on me. Jasek’s playing in general reminds me of the soulful character of Menuhin’s playing
