1SG, I just wanted you to know I went in front of my Brigade CSM today for my first ever promotion board. I was given 1 1/2 weeks to prepare beforehand. I followed your 2 minute drill to a T, and I walked out of there with my promotable status, and all of the members of the board telling me I was ready to take on competition boards! Thank you for sharing the tools to success.

Situation happened recently. Seems like a good place to post. Your in the field. A 4 vehicle convoy gets cleared to enter your area. The vehicles must be ground guided through the area. You see them passing without a ground guide. What do you do?
being a mechanic the chances of having no tasks to work on are very rare to none lol we work overtime. Using PT to do maintenance, staying til 19 to do maintenance, every break gets cut down in time, watching other plt/companies go home early, etc. Given that question of having a few hours with no tasks, is it still wrong to let my guys relax before the next hit time? In the counselings that I give every month I include study board questions and random quizzes in the plan of action so everyday regardless of how busy things get, I still conduct it at random so we’re always doing some type of training/studying.
hey i remember interviewing for a leadership position at a temp warehouse hired under usps… they asked me what i would have employees do with 3 hrs downtime i said sweep straighten up areas & get prepared for our next rush… they told me that’s overworking people & someone else who they hired had said let them rest in the break room i swear it was a rigged question
1SG, When do we stand up during our boards? I know when we say the creeds, if we are sitting, we will stand up before reciting them. Are there any other creeds, orders, mottos, or sayings that we should stand up for? To follow up, if we are asked to recite 1 paragraph of the NCO creed, do we stand? If we do, do we still say "The Creed of the Non-Commisioned Officer," or rather, do we jump straight into the paragraph?
My dad these as a nco and always tossed out a practical or wtf question since you can memorize standard questions for example. Your in a mixed nation unit and your team leader is British army Warrant Officer Holmes and he comes in - do you salute? (Best answer they are enlisted like me but out of respect I salute since she's my CO on the team.) It was not to be mean but to test how they respond if they get a good answer then fine but standing there flabbergasted he likely would vote no promotion leaders don't stand there scared. He had around a hundred of such questions some with no right answer. When others complained he was clear this person could be in combat and in charge if no commissioned officer is around he or she may have to deal with it their character to the unexpected is important.

I was just informed I’m being sent to Soldier of the month board March 17. Unfortunately there won’t be an MOI given out so we were told to study as much as possible of whatever basically. What would you recommend are the best topics of focus for me in the next two weeks? Thankfully I already have the NCO Creed down.
Interesting - check out my mock board questions playlist - These are the most common subject areas. Get your hands on your promotion board MOI - may be very similar. Best of luck to you! Oh - and rehearse your first few minutes. Reporting, Bio, Creeds - be able to say all of these things with some umph! It matters!!

If it's on the MOI, then yes of course they can ask you. I typically don't expect SPCs to know a lot about NCOERs. I hate to hear of your past issues and hope that you take them as lessons learned so that you can care for those in your charge better in the future. Get that MOI and start studying now so that next time you can blow it out of the water! Best to you brother!

I was selected to do my promotion board in a week and I really dont know much of anything. I can study but the moment I get infront of people I tend to forget everything i learned and struggle talking with a higher volume. Any tips of what I should do?
Failed my board today mainly because I didn’t have my uniform properly set up. I don’t know most of the questions and told my CSM he was wrong. Got barred from the board and possibly flagged but on the bright side he told me to come back next month

Failed my board today mainly because I didn’t have my uniform properly set up. I don’t know most of the questions and told my CSM he was wrong. Got barred from the board and possibly flagged but on the bright side he told me to come back next month
