I bought myself a 2008 Ford fusion SEL V6 with 190,000 miles for $500 and it was dirt cheap for one reason, code P0303 aka misfire on cylinder 3. I replaced all the spark plugs and coil packs and she now runs like a dream. Best $500 I ever spent.

When my Hyunsai Elantra showed a code for misfire on cylinder four it wasn't the plug or coil, it was low compression. You would never know anything was wrong were it not for the check engine light. 50,000 miles so Hyundai replaced the engine. Well short block they reused the head.

I’ve had my 2012 SEL for four years now in the red candy tint metallic color. Got it when it had just over 98k miles. Today I’m approaching 163k and it’s still going great. Just couple weeks ago I had my transmission flushed for the second time of owning it. It’s a fully loaded one with factory nav, sunroof, the 12 speakers only system, the BLISS system etc. only thing missing is AWD. The first gen fusions, particularly the ‘1.5 gen” models from 2010-2012 still look great today. The style still holds up pretty well.

these were really solid vehicles. my mom gave me her '10 SEL 2.5L in sep 2018 with 66k miles. had it until april 2022 and someone ran a red light and hit me, insurance totaled it. and gave me $6k for it. throttle body went out at 75k miles and was replaced under a extended recall, electric power steering went out at 114k miles my local Ford dealer fixed it for free. transmission was messed up because the fluid was never changed but the car never left me stranded. 3 years before the car was totaled someone brake checked me and i rear ended someone at 40mph, my fusion only had a cracked headlight and the other drivers bumper was caved in, even though Fusions were made in Mexico these cars are tanks!

Its been over a year now and we have driven over 5k miles and heres list of maintenence we have done: changed tires, changed front rotors and breaks, changed spark plugs and coils, changed valve covor gasket, two tie rods, 4 ball joints. Sounds like a lot but we need a cheap reliable car and weve done this gradually over a year. Total spent on this car probably about 3-4k for a running car and a year of driving could be worse. Im pleased especially for a car that total to buy was 750. Hope it keeps running for me

Man! Can confirm! I have a 2012 SE with the 2.5 and it's been nothing but a sweet cruise. I bought it in 2013 and as I am typing this, it is sitting @ 197489 miles. No major repairs or complaints other than, as you said, the dang door handles, adding a bit better quality speakers, and changing the occasional light bulb. I am about to replace my valve cover gasket as the original is starting to show it's face. I found some oil on my coil packs. It's a natural occurrence and I can not complain! Working on this thing is easy. The space it offers is great. The ride is fantastic. It does have some umph when you give it the beans l -- over all it's a solid choice if you can find one.

I'm on my 2nd Fusion. The 1st was a 2006 SEL V6. Grey with black cloth seats. Power windows. It had 81k on it when I bought it. Great car.I wound up trading it after 9 years & 140k + miles with the rockers rusted out, and underneath scaly and 1 hole patched underneath the passenger seat. I live in the rust belt. So I traded it for a 2012 SEL V6 diamond white, with leather heated seats, etc.. A Florida car and clean underneath as when new. Looks just like this one in this video. It had 71K when I bought it. These cars are really pretty reliable. And comfortable. Ford made a mistake ceasing production. One of the best cars they ever made. The 3.0 liter V6 is really the same engine they put in the Jaguars when Ford owned them. Made right here @ Cleveland engine Plant 2.

Technically this is a 1.5 generation fusion. The first generation only had a 5 speed auto and manual transmission. They also only had the 3.0 for the v6 option. I have a 2010 Ford Fusion SEL 2.5L with a 6 speed manual transmission. It does 35 mpg hwy and around 29 city. Its also fairly quick compared to the automatic. I bought it in 2019 and had only 2 issues, ABS module and a slave cylinder going out. I got Forscan on my laptop for 20 bucks and able to program it easily. The slave cylinder went out because the brake fluid was never changed. Incredibly reliable car otherwise. If you want a little more modern car, look for the 2013-2016 2nd gen Ford Fusions with the 2.5L and 6 speed manual. They are hard to find but they are the only 2nd generation that uses the exact same powertrain as the older Fusions. Those are very reliable as well.

Generally, I'm really basied against Ford and the Fusion is one car I wouldn't pick at all..
Typically, a first used car is allways the best bang for the buck.
Last gen impala would be my choice..

  • @zeus014
    @zeus014 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

It's a good Ford because it's a Mazda. And it's great bang-for-buck because the Ford logo keeps sellers from getting dollars signs in their eyes that would otherwise be apparent if the logo said Mazda.
Not that Ford cannot build good vehicles - the Mustang and the 1993-and-up Ford Ranger pickups are over-all decent and bang-for-buck excellent. (and in the case of the pickup, the Mazda versions were re-badged Fords but sold at a premium because of the Mada nameplate). But once Mazda was out of the picture and Ford brought out the second-gen Fusion the design and quality-control issues began to ramp up.

A lot of this generation Fusions are likely owned by older persons. They are a Ford so easy to get parts for, they have good engines, handle very nicely (independent rear suspension), FWD so good in snow/wet conditions. I had a related 2006 Mazda 6 sport with the spoiler, sport wheels, 4 wheel disk brakes 3.0 L Ford DOHC V-6 from new for almost 10 years and put 91,000 US miles (145,000 Kms) on it. Problems: HVAC fan motor went at about 50K, water pump had a leak at about 75K, 1 bad plug coil at about 85 K (fixed myself), drooping headliner, needed oil about every 1500 miles at about 85 K due to leaks/slight burning.

The only gripe i had with the 1st gen fusions were they made the interior cheap. The Inside door handles would break due to them being made from plastic. The fake sticker chrome they put around the gear selecter would start to fray and the grab handles would start to sag on their own. But the powertrain was oretty reliable. now the 2nd gen fusions interior were made much better, it just has better quality all the way around, but they suffer one huge issue and thats the cooliant instrusion issue on the 1.5, 1.6 and 2.0L ecoboost engines. From 2012 sept to april of 2019 models. But if you got the naturally asperated 2.5L engine you were good which is what i have in my 2018 fusion.

Ive got a ford fusion. I would say thats technically a second gen. They made changes to the aesthetics as will as the powertrain in 2010. It got a 3.0v6 duratec that started implementing cam inertial driven VVT and flex fuel for E85. there was some changes to the tranamission as well with the addition iof a dipstick. Slight HP increase.

I want simplicity in my daily driver so a decent NA 4 cylinder is great and the 2.5 fits perfectly. Nothing but oil changes and its at 90K. Great engines and simple too. Literally bent a ball joint press and had to cut the control arm off at the joint to get a bigger tool and more leverage on it.

    do not buy a ford
    Fusion
    Taurus
    Edge
    Explorer
With the 3.5 v6 this was the cyclone v6 part of the ford family
The 3.5 had the worst water pump that was connected to the timing chain so when the water pump failed it would leak into the crank case and spin the bearings and destroy your engine
Im 100% positive the ford fusion Taurus edge all had these problems
Im not sure on the explorer or f150
The 3.0 and 2.5 and 2.3 being Mazda engines shouldn't have these issues
But i cannot say this enough DO NOT BUY A 3.5 OR 3.5 ECOBOOST V6 FROM 2010 TO CURRENT i promise you its not worth paying 2000$ for a water pump service and you can change it yourself but you need the special ford tools and it's about a 2+ hour job

Ford and GM both have bad ideas for the body styles they give their cars. Always a weird back or too boxy or something. The 2010 Fusion is one exception I feel it looks about just right. Also, I just read on another persons comment on a 2011 Fusion just like mine, that if I get that "Power Steering Assist Fault" again, then It might be my Tire Pressure Sensors needing to be replaced.
