This was quite informative. I've heard of angelic ranks, but never really understood the hierarchy other than the names in the bible like seraphim, cherubim, and archangels. It's also nice to know the source is fairly arbitrary.
@@jcsgodmother The second set of angels he mentioned were basically arbitrary terms from The Old Testament that the person who wrote The Celestial Hierarchy mentioned by Dionysus to refer to groups of angels that are never specified in The Bible. That's like the way some denominations today might have specific definitions for the differences between a pastor, a reverend, a minister, a bishop, a deacon, a preacher, an apostle, etc., but those definitions would not may not be biblical.
@@jakeleo4518in this context the meaning of awesome may be like „ terrifying“. It includes the word „awe“ which also means „reverence“ so it is truly an old word
The 4 Evangelists are also symbolized as a human (Mathew), a bull (Luke), a lion (Mark), and an eagle (John) This was also written by Aquinas… although he probably wasn’t the first And I’ve heard human saints who are patrons of particular things or places to also to be called principalities
Oh yeah. I wasn't aware of this. There's the eagle of St. John, winged lion of St. Mark, and the winged ox of St. Luke. I'm not sure what's St. Matthew's symbol is though.
Curiously, those are are the symbols of the fixed signs of the zodiac: Taurus the bull, Leo the lion, Scorpio (in its transcendent form) the eagle, and Aquarius the water-bearer man.
Maybe it’s the way you explained it but it seems rather obvious that Satan was probably a Seraphim because of the “serpent” double meaning in the word seraph. If Satan (Lucifer) was a cherub, how would he have had time to be the chancellor of Music if he was guarding God all day? Seraphims are the only ones who are described (in this video) as singers. I’d wager that Satan was probably a Seraphim? Am I way off?
No, you are exactly right. Satan was a Seraphim. He is only called a cherub in Ezekiel because "cherubim" means guardian, referring to a role. So he was simply that a guardian. Seraphim, on the other hand, refers to appearance; fiery serpents, and there's more than enough evidence in the Bible suggesting Satan has serpentine qualities. So a cherub (guardian) could be a seraph in apperance/quality and a seraph could be a cherub in duty. I believe the key area of confusion is in names given to the hierarchies (cherubim, seraphim). Instead of cherubim, a more suitable name for the hierarchy would be Chayot Ha Kodesh, otherwise known as the four living creatures. Their main function, being throne bearers of God's throne, in addition to being cherubs. It should be noted that while the seraphim may act as cherubs, the role of throne bearer belongs to the living creatures alone.
He took this from the Kabbalah which is invented arround the Jewish Torah and according to Jewish people there is no such thing as fallen angels. Satan is an angel like all other who’s task is to make man sin. In the book of job satan pleaded with god that job was a good man. You need to learn the real books
Correct me if I'm wrong, but in the story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, wasn't it implied that Satan eas the snake or serpent that convinced her to eat from the Apple, therefore forcing from that place? If he was a Seraphim and old-time scholars made this connection, perhaps Seraphim are depicted without serpentine forms because they don't want to emulate the first betrayer from among their ranks??
We Catholics have a chaplet - a term for prayer beads that are not the typical Dominican rosary - dedicated to them. It is called the Chaplet of Saint Michael and the Nine Choirs, and prayers are said in nine sets to reflect the angelic choirs. We ask them for protection and to pray for us to God.
While I know that Catholics often pray through an intermediary such as a saint, I've often wondered do Catholics (and Orthodox for that matter), ever pray directly to God or is that seen as a bit presumptuous?
@@Dave_Sisson All prayers are directed to God. When using an intercessor you're simply praying with someone or some saint to God at the Same time. In 1 Timothy 2, St Paul asks to urge all to petion, prayer, and intercede and make thanksgiving for all people. The Church is the Body of Christ, Christ is the mediator between God and Mankind. The Church as a whole prays and intercedes for God.
@@haronsmith8974 Thanks. Other denominations interpret that passage as meaning (other) humans should pray with them. So for Catholics you can pray directly to God, but you can also get expert assistance from a saint or the collective entity of the Catholic church? Very interesting, thanks for explaining that.
@@Dave_Sisson Of course Catholics pray directly to God. That is clearly what the Lord's prayer is. They also ask others to pray for them. Basically, God formed the Communion of Saints and it is very powerful and Christians should use it for the purposes that it is created.
4:50 Genesis 18:1-8 is also an early Christian Apologetics material for the Triune God. The Latin saying goes: "Tres Vidit et Unum Adoravit" which meant He saw Three but worshipped One. Also in the East there's such a thing as the Trinity Icon of Andrei Rublev
Yes, enjoyed, good stuff. There's the Catholic booklet ... "The Pieta Prayer Book"... ~pg.72, the ' Chaplet of St. Michael' which includes Intercessions to each of the 9 Choirs of Angels,... very much in line with what was outlined in your video.
I’ve read a few sources that refer to “thrones” as Ophanim, a beautiful spirit nestled within four large winged wheels, each of which are adorned with countless azure eyes that look upon all directions. Ophanims are high-ranking angels of the First Sphere like cherubims and seraphims, who serve directly under God and protect His throne. Their unblinking eyes allow them to see all and know all at any given time and place-allowing them the unique ability to give a completely objective, unbiased testimony of the facts surrounding a case. Would you happen to come across the term also? Thanks!
No, NEVER heard of them. This is the 1st time. Considering that I am often reading up about them for decades. Am extremely interested in them + read up as much as I can access. Thank you v much for this golden nugget.
Probably a translation of 'shines like beryl' which is often seen as Aquamarine. Though delightfully that means they got some wide range: Goshenite-Clear/white Heliodor-Yellow Morganite-Pink Emerald-Green Bixbite-Red
None of what you wrote is from the Bible. There is no such thing as *"Thrones"* or *"Ophanim",* your description is of them, reads more like *the Cherubim.* *Seraphim* are God's personal guards. There is no description of them seeing all or knowing all, that is made up. *The Seraphim* have nothing to do with cases or matters on earth or in Heaven, *Jehovah* doesn't need a witness, he is the supreme witness of events.
🇷🇺☦️🤝☪️🇵🇸Correct, Thrones are the Ophans. Angels are corporeal same as ALL of creation in earth and heavens, and only God is incorporeal. Angels have only transcendental knowledge given to them temporarily by God, but their nature is animal-like childish, instinctive with no morals, and their bodies are made of the different types of light: regular light, fire and electricity, while their forms are hybrids of animals, humans and celestial figures. Here is the correct and perfectly detailed hierarchy: 1️⃣☢️1st triad - the Cherubs, Seraphs & Thrones, are nearest to the Godhead, 'ever dwelling in the vestibule of Divinity'. *that is the reason why God made them from different kinds of light* Cherubs Hebrew: כְּרוּב pl. כְּרוּבִים (in Akkadian: 𒅗𒊏𒁍 karabu "to bless" such as 𒅗𒊑𒁍 karibu) *God created them from electricity & are the highest rank which guards the border between the 3rd heaven and the Father* "The name Cherubim means 'Fullness of knowledge'. Through them the Providential Energy streams forth as a transcendental Light perfectly illuminating the soul, uniting it with the Divine Wisdom, and imparting a full and lucid understanding of the Divine Immanence in all things." Seraphs (Hebrew: שרף pl. שְׂרָפִים) *God created them from the venom of rattle snake with 6 wings* "From the Seraphim, the 'Burning' or 'Fiery' Ones, flows the stream of supercelestial Grace. Like fire they consume all that separates man from God, enabling him to rise to the highest fulfillment of his destiny through the perfection and unification [2] of all the activities of the soul, and its union with the Divine." Ophans (Hebrew: אופנים - אופן pl.) *God created them from fire as forms of wheels of His heavenly throne* "Thrones, 'Divine Seats', make manifest the purifying power of Providence which wholly penetrates the consciousness. Through them the soul is uplifted to the Divine and becomes established in the constancy of divine service." 2️⃣☢️2nd triad - the Dominions, Virtues, and Powers, are given the middle place as indicating the ordered governance of Providence. Through them the soul is liberated from all that is below and assimilated to that which is above. *God made them all of regular light* Supreme Angels (מלאכי עליון :Hebrew) "The Dominions impart order and justice, through which true liberty is gained." Mercy Angels (מלאכי רחמים :Hebrew) "The Virtues are the bestowers of grace and valour." Peace Angels (Hebrew: מלאכי שלום) "The Powers or Authorities give the providential aid which with irresistible power overcomes and re-directs the forces which fetter the mind of man to the things of earth." 3️⃣☢️To 3rd triad - of Principalities, Archangels, and Angels belongs the final execution of the work of Providence. *God made them all of regular light* Service Angels (Hebrew: מלאכי שרת) "The Principalities or Princes exhibit Divine Lordship & true Service. Through them soul may turn from its attachment to worldly pursuits to service of the Divine, & ultimately become a co-worker with His Ministers." (אראלים .pl אראל :Hebrew) Erels "Archangels imprint on all things the Divine Seal whereby the universe is the written word of God; they impart to soul spiritual light through which it may learn to read this divine book, & also to know & use rightly its own faculties." ☆the name derived from the personhood given them, unlike rest of Angels, with personal names all with the ending 'El'☆ Angels of God (מלאכי יהוה :Hebrew) ●nameless angels - lowest rank● "The Angels minister to all men & to things of nature, purifying & uplifting them." ✴️ As prophesied by St. Ezekiel, all Angels are organized & commanded by the wind power of the Holy Spirit: And Man & Woman named by God after the firey body parts of Seraphs & Ophans: חֹבְרֹת אִשָּׁה אֶל אֲחוֹתָהּ כַּנְפֵיהֶם לֹא יִסַּבּוּ בְלֶכְתָּן אִישׁ אֶל עֵבֶר פָּנָיו יֵלֵכוּ.
I've found that the first verse of the hymn "Ye Watchers and Ye Holy Ones" conveniently lists all nine hierarchies of angels, from top to bottom: "Ye watchers and ye holy ones, Bright seraphs, cherubim and thrones, Raise the glad strain, alleluia! Cry out, dominions, princedoms, powers, Virtues, archangels, angels' choirs, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!"
I thought the Cherubim and Seraphim might be more well known! We Orthodox describe Mary as "More honorable than the Cherubim and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim" and there's Seraphim with 6 wings painted on one wall as part of an icon

@@heheboi6791can't even point out how mainstream theological beliefs are ultimately as fictitious and arbitrary as made up angel hierarchy without someone calling you a reddit user it's over
Seraphim and Cherubim are collective terms for angels. Ophanims literally translate to "wheels", so it's just a term for a form in which some angels appeared to Ezekiel. Angels and Archangels are (probably) the only confirmed ranks in the Bible, with Archangels being placed at the top of the hierarchy. As for the other ranks, they are literally used in reference to humans, and never in reference to angels.
Yeah I already heard about thrones - the ones that has a lot of eyes where they claimed these eyes always keeping an eye to every human actions on Earth. And also I heard this Seraphim - the one with 6 wings 2 for flying 2 for covering their eyes and the other 2 is to cover their feet but I never expected them to be highest rank of hierarchy in heaven. Instead, I thought this should Angel. I also read somewhere that angels has higher ranks than archangels.
Gives a whole new meaning to Ephesians ,For we wrestle not with flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Exorcist priests do mention the 9 choirs on their lectures. One thing that was not mentioned here was when Lucifer fell with the other angels that followed him, they had retained their ranks and now have a demonic hierarchy. These guys tend to be very different from each other even those from the bottom tier. The higher ups are harder to grapple with.
The cherubim with the 4 faces man, lion, bull and eagle is of course referring to the 4 cardinal zodiac signs of Aquarius (man) Taurus (Bull) lion (leo) and eagle (Scorpio which in ancient times was also depicted as an eagle)
Very funny that archangels are way down on this scale when most people like myself understand them to be at the top above all others. It’s even funnier that Lucifer is thought to be a cherubim when seraphim even means serpent. I always thought that archangel and seraphim, angel and cherubim were interchangeable - two names for the same thing. How confusing it all is. 🤣
Gabriel was never described as an Arch Angel in the bible. Also, he needed Michael's help with the Prince of Persia. Unless he's the weakest of them. Michael is the only named Arc Angel. Although, he is also described as one of the chief Princes. So, is a chief prince a synonym for Arch Angel? Or is it it's own thing? Also, if he is just one of, how many are there? Or who else? Was the un-named Prince of Persia also one of the chief Princes? If that's the case, is Michael the Chief Prince of Israel? What about the Angel of Death? Is that Satan or another being? What about the Watchers? Were they the original Guardian Angels, before they fell into sin? What about the women with wings like that onto a stork? Where they harpies? It didn't seem like positive context, when they were mentioned.
Thrones are eerie similar to what i would imagine people from this time would have called fractals. And those fractal "entities" are also seen when people talk about their psychodelic experiances through shrooms or dmt. (i dont want to advocate for drugs, just found it interesting)
You know, what I find most interesting about Judeo descriptions of Jehovah, The Creator God, is that all depictions of this deity have its subordinates and creations constantly worshiping it and singing its praises non-stop. Furthermore, most depictions of this deity portray it as a hateful, vengeful, and jealous deity that demands its creations only love and worship it above all else. If you do not, then you will suffer and be barred from ever entering "Heaven." It was only through "God's" mortal son, Jesus, was "God" taught love and compassion for one of its creations, Humans. Personally, I find this sentiment absolutely ridiculous. That such a "Holy," "Divine," "Moral," and "Just" diety could practically embody such unvirtuous negatives as "Wrath," "Jealousy," "Greed," and "Pride."
Please tell me where are the stained-glass windows showing the four archangels that is seen in this video? Its style is Art Nouveau. Where are the windows? Thanks.
The term "virtue" comes from the following passage in Ephesians: 1.20 which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all principality and power and MIGHT and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. The word MIGHT is translated as virtus in the Vulgate. Note that virtus is then translated as "virtue" but its meaning is broader than what we nowadays usually understand by that word.
This was quite extraordinary! Apparently, both Gabriel and Michael are *outranked* by the Principalities of, say, England and France. That doesn't seem right somehow. (Also, probably, by the Principality of Microsoft. The mind boggles.) And the Thrones - perhaps the most spectacular angels we know of - do nothing but "support the throne of God". That probably has some deep theological meaning, but the image it conjures up is quite odd. Even more so than the Seraphim constantly singing. The idea, I think, is that to support the structure of Heaven requires a vast amount of power and organisation, even more so than the Earth.
What I've found effective over the years, to a surprisng lenght, is to try to think about cases like this the way they would make sense in scifi novel. In this case the Trhones would be something like machines holding up Gods authority, so like... sonars? I guess... Being made to constantly search for irregualrities in the system and inform God if anything is out of the ordinary. Does it make sense? I think it does.
I believe the seraphim depicted as snakes can be found in pre-exile (the babylonian one) jewish iconography, where God is depicted as a sun with winged snakes around him, also, by that translation of the word seraph, the serpent that tempted Eve could have been a seraph.
Interesting information. I liked the way this explained where the ranks came from and discussed if it the term was in the Bible or not. I would caution the author that the final book of the Bible is Revelation - singular, not Revelations - plural. It seems a nit, but when you are parsing topics about the Bible, you should strive to get the name of the book correct.
Take aways; 1.) The case for Samael (Venom of God) being a seraph is etymologically sound. 2.) Gimme a Helel depiction as a full cherubim 3.) I need to draw a Seraph modeled after a king cobra with the wings covering their face as the hood and the tail being the ones covering their feet.
8:06 I always wanted to know about principalities more, since there isn't anything I can find online. Specifically I'd love to know say who's the principality of Ireland or Israel or Germany or whatever. But I can't find much details on it
The idea is more that the principality is the metaphysical will of the collective body: every group of people have a 'personhood' of sorts. They would not have a separate name because they are the category, and they exist in a hierarchy. For example, Berlin has a principality that unites it, which is under a Brandenburger principality, under a Saxon/North-German principality, under a German, under a Germanic, under a European principality, under god.

In Islam, the heavier the tasks--assigned to angels--the bigger the angels. Some angels have two wings, some have three, and others have more. Thus, the four angels with the most prominent tasks are: Gabriel (Who delivered the Torah, the Bible, and the Quran), Raphael (the blower of the trumpet on the day of judgment), Azrael (the angel of death), and Michael. There are eight other angels called the bearers of the throne--they hold God's throne. Finally, right on top of the Kaaba in Makkah, there's a parallel temple called "the inhabited house". This one is visited every day by thousands of angels. They revolve around it just like people do around the Kaaba, and once they're done, they leave for good--which symbolizes the great number of God's angels.
idk too much about christian mythology but if the seraph's can be interpreted as snakes and lucifer is the "serpent in the garden" would it not make more sense that lucifer was a fallen seraph rather than a cherub?
Well, it's a very uninspiring interpretation but its grounded. For those confused, maybe based on this video here is a simple explanation using our own realities as humans. Take the normal Angels as your friendly neighbourhood police force. The ArcAngels as the special forces more like SAS or Navy seals, take your pick. Pricipalities should be more like the mayor type, powers, virtues and dominions- the army, the religious leaders and Governors. Then you have Thrones- senators, judges and justices- cherubim- your 3 letter agencies and seraphim- your presidents favorite political henchmen, advisors, chief of staff, secretary of state, special interest...
So Isaiah suggest that satan hid like a Seraphim (the angels who always praised God) to convince eve to eat the fruit maybe satan was a beautiful seraphim who rebelled because he wish to be like God or wanted to replace God the fact the archangel Michael defeated him was Gods way of telling him even though he was the highest in heaven (possibly just below Christ and the trinity) he allowed a simple angel (who are described looking like basic man) to humble him
I have a problem when such things come from “interpretations” by man. It seems to me that mankind just makes even simple ideas more complicated than they need to be. I believe this is because religious leaders and scholars went with what they knew. I don’t think they could have envisioned something so complicated seeming like heaven as being a simple place with simple hierarchies.
I don't believe that a hierarchy is Biblical, but Michael, the Arkangel, was definitely very important. He said that he "Stands in the presence of God." Edit: Not to tear into the video, but almost none of it was actually Biblical. I realize though that it's not really trying to be Bilblical
I think it is written elsewhere that Lucifer is the chief of the archangels, he is the highest angel thereby closest to God. He's exposure to God had his ego to seize the glory or wanted the glory to himself. It was envy that destruction Lucifer.
Very informative just one correction.. the four living creatures (man , lion, ox and eagle) are allegories for the 4 cardinal signs of the zodiac man is of course aquarius the ox is the bull taurus. The lion obviously is Leo and the eagle is a little tricky as everyone knows the 4th sign is scorpio and the last creature of the eagle.. the eagle actually was the ancient symbol for scorpio.. they aren't angels in the physical sense but the 4 different forces in an things ie earth water air and for fire
In The Bible, it has said Satan was the Cherubim that convinced Eve to take a bite and for her to convince Adam to also bite. In Genesis before they were removed from Heavan.
06:27 Michael is not particularly skilled at his profession. Israel has been subjected to a number of Genocide attacks over millennia. Michael, in my humble view, is still not taking his duties seriously.
I think The Most Accurate Hierarchy of Angels and Demons is from The Book of Wisdom written by King Solomon. It had detailed characteristics of Angels and Demons. But, that book considered blasphemy to God, because its content had devils worshipping.
You forgot the angels of the presence, and the angels of the sanctification from Jubilees. Jubilees say specifically that these angels were created circumcised. Enoch says angels are hung like horses, so that would make sense that they would be made circumcised.
Actually its Roman Catholic church, and we do know a bit about angels, we are told you can entertain Angels and not even know, would assume they look human with maybe some other features might separate them from human. We also know quite a bit about them and some names like Azrael or Death himself. Also ones not mentioned in scripture by name but within Genesis and Isiah. The one mentioned but not named is Lilith.
@@Urfavigbo you would be correct, she was not an angel, in Hebrew lore, Lilith, she was the first woman, she had a problem with Adam and left, because she wanted be in control during bedtime, I'll keep it PG. In Isaiah angels talked to a woman get her to go to heaven, she denied their request grew wings and flew away. Reading scripture, it does not say there was more than 1 woman, but it does imply this, read Genesis 1:26 And God said, let us make man in our image, after our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over all the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creepy thing that creepeth upon the earth. When we look at verse 27, so God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him, male and female created he them, but if look at verse 28, and God blessed them, and God said be fruitful and multiply, and replenish the earth. Then we look at Gen 2:15 And the Lord God took the man, and put him in the garden of Eden, to dress it and keep it, verse 16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying Of every tree of the garden tho mayest freely eat, verse 17 But of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, thou shall not eat of it, for in he day that though eatest thereof thou shall surely die. Then verse 18 And the LORD God said, it is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. Just by reading this it is not clear, I read it and God created man and woman together, but then lays Adam down created woman from his rib. If God created them and clothed them before hand, why are they both naked after he laid Adam down? Why is the woman created from man, while we are told they created together? Something is off, either missing or lost in translation, something is missing, or it's all way should be said, just we need to connect it together. This is where the story of Lilith comes into play, but not mentioned by name ever. Imho it was either Lilith or Death in the garden, I remember God telling Adam to not eat of the fruit but not Eve, so there is something to Lilith as the first woman. I am not saying bible is a lie, I believe it 100%, just not telling us everything, which is fine, we shouldn't know everything anyways imho, specially when comes to God and his design. You can not read scripture and not question it like everything else, but remember people don't believe in the bible cause it contradicts itself, but because it contradicts them. Scripture does say we could entertain angels and not even know, this refers that humans look like angels, they look like man. When read Genesis, it implies this also. Remember it said we will creat them in our image, which is angels, physical and spiritual, God. Read James 2:26 for the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. In the end it's up to you to accept Jesus or not, but remember when death comes you either repent in the flesh, or die in the spirit, for death is judgment. For Jonas spent 3 days and 3 nights in the belly of the whale, so shall son of man spend 3 days and 3 nights in the belly of the earth, then judgement.

You forget that the seraphim were also responsible for bestowing upon the Doom Slayer a terrible power… just kidding. I’m kind of confused though, I always thought the Ophanim/Throne were the highest ranking and closest to God
You have hit upon a characteristic of Christianity. And that is to make things up. Sometimes it is to fill in details that aren't there, and sometimes it is apparently just for the sake of making things up. Watch any video on Noah's ark or the Creation story and you will read dozens of comments by people, none of whom agree with the others, but who nevertheless try to sound as if they have the authoritative, final word of truth. But It's more than that. The bible stories themselves do not agree with each other. There are two creation stories in Genesis. They are different in style and tone and the details don't match, as if they were written by separate authors and just stitched together, which is exactly what happened. The gospel stories also don't agree with each other. And it is not the case that "Well, it's really the same story told from four viewpoints." No, they are different and they do not agree with each other. But this is what you would expect if people collected stories that had been floating around for years as the gospels were, or were never written down, but were just oral traditions like the Old Testament narratives, and were only jumbled together by several writers many years later.
Satan was formerly known as Lucifer " light bringer" or "morning star" as he was next to God in hierarchy; therefore, logically, Lucifer is a Seraphim not a Cherub or Cherubim as these Angels are responsible for guarding holy places whereas The prophet Isaiah tells us that the seraphim are six-winged “fiery” angels who surround God as He sits upon His exalted throne and who worship God continually (Isaiah 6). Lucifer decided that he could be "greater than God" as he believed his radiance and beauty came from himself Not from God, which lead to disobedience and caused the War in heaven as indicated in Revelation 12:7-10
Wait, what about teraphim, the dragons(s), nephilim, fallen angels that are allowed in heaven... Im not trying to argue, but i thought there were more...??? Keeping in mind that what i referenced in the question is depicted in some way in the book of Enoch.
As a catholic I find the video very interesting but totally esoteric . The concept of angels was to encourage and glorify Renaissance art . And all the better for it .
Dude angels are definitely real, if angels weren't real then Satan wouldn't be real and then you wouldn't believe in Christianity if you actually believe that.
@@LibertyLion1776 I respect your strength of faith. But there is something to be said always about when and WHY different books of the Bible were written/translated throughout history. This person is correct, the Greek and Hebrew translation refer to “heavenly bodies” and some people interpret this to mean stars! Now I’m not an expert on Christian theology. I guess you’d call me an agnostic catholic… yet even then you are not going to get me to argue with you about the existence or truancy of the Christian theologians interpretation of Creator and Creators intentions. I do however believe that if I, and Christian’s walk in the way of CHRIST and learn from his teachings, passed through history into today; we wouldn’t have to tell people that “they don’t believe in Christianity”. For how wide is the weave woven of a religion which denies anyone the right to practice?
@@andrewmiller9810 yes! I fully embrace angels but we need a wide space for people in the catholic tent. I moved away from the church for years because my pride of “not believing” stopped my from engaging. Those with strength of faith should be impressed by people willing to practice that may lack it. We all have our shadow side, best we can do is walk together towards Jesus.
@@andrewmiller9810 you sound like you are speaking from a perspective of someone who hasn't seen any spiritual beings. I've seen angels in my dreams many times. And also the Bible says "And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered". If you understand biblical poetry you would see that this means that Satan " the red dragon" swept his tail and a third of the "stars" fell from heaven. Stars clearly refers to the "bene ha Elohim" of sons of God. And the bible is pretty clear about the fact that if you don't believe in the bible and that Jesus Christ is the Messiah then you cannot consider yourself a Christian. It's not my place to ever judge any man but God is all righteous and omnipotent so his judgement is just. If you are struggling with the idea of angels ask God for guidance from the holy Spirit to elucidate the truth to you.
I'm not gonna knock Dionysius, his name gave me pause immediately :D "whether thrones or dominions or rulers or powers" The seat, the lands ruled over, the leader and what power they are allowed, to exert upon the people. I could be wrong; I WANNA STUDY ANCIENT GREEK AND HEBREW. Principalities.. "He spake with the voice of a multitude" makes me think.. Angels are many, in one body? Trust no man, Dionysius may be entirely on point.. I don't trust me: I only have faith in God. That being said.. The man Jesus found in the cave, "We are called legion for we are many." yikes.. Spiritually, "The Body of Christ" is everyone who Jesus has given faith in him. All of his. Even the ones that don't get along? Through faith folks are saved. but. There are crowns.. For those who overcometh, the crown of Life. so.. The Word is so very complicated :) and amazing. I wish everyone knew; i thought it was, stories.. growing up. I've learned more from it than from 30 years of obsessively studying everything I could. I had no life, I studied. nobody should say "This is exactly it." or, I personally would not believe anybody saying "This is THE answer" unless they're talkin about Jesus... but, thinking too far... Connecting too many dots in The Word of God.. can be painting your own picture? IDK. I'm sure I've done it. "I think I have an idea of how this incredibly complex thing works!" but like.. What came before this life and what came after; it's fun to delve but.. I do fear it is easy to elevate ones self above God. In our hearts, in our minds.. A friend asked me about demons and had WEIRD experiences; saw some bug that causes boils in her bathroom and.. It seems a dangerous topic to delve too deeply into :D There is but one God. The Most High. Angels, are amazing.. some fell, some serve God. fearing God :D I used to just SAY discoveries or, possible truths. I wasn't always right. I was oft, a mile off. It's a bad pattern many Christians, most? fall into. Itching ears, :) seeking teachers instead of reading The Word. All I wanna do is read The Word :D "I dan't do naught never near enough!" If anyone is curious, pray and consult The Word :) I didn't directly quote it, and any man's summary.. or any group of men's praxis, cannot come close to The Glory of God :) it's a gift that God lets us even try :D and, it's always God when things happen. I've made plans for doing this, and something entirely different happened very often :D and it was always better.. albeit, oft after incredibly sad periods or, difficult experiences.. Thank God when things get tough :) it's easy to forget that God feeds us. We work, we do whatever sure.. God's mercy, keeps us alive in this world.. and, turning to The Truth. to Jesus.. saves your soul. Angels? God uses Angels. Jesus had LEGIONS of Angels. He let it all happen to him. He knew preemptively and he walked to what God had set out for him. . rant, yikes. This is a fascinating topic :) i don't think people 'shouldn't research it' but.. Consult The Word!!! Pray, ask God! I prayed to know what day the sabbath actually was. I met a historian SAME DAY, who wrote a book on, chapter 1 or 2 was THAT, exactly.. and, his writing covered gaps in the history I was gray on :D idk. TRY PRAYIN! The Lord Liveth! I was taught there was no God in school.. I've heard, most theories of reality.. I have asked a TON of 'what if' questions.. to the point my parents hated me.. The Word is true :D what ifs.. can be nasty business I think :D
The Bible only mentions two ranks of angel clearly: Angel and Archangel, the latter category perhaps containing only one person; we don't know. The rest is our invention, not revelation from God.
The Catholic Church does teach the Nine Choirs of Angels. It isn't a medieval teaching, simply a teaching that comes from the Summa. The Catholic Church, however, does not recognize Uriel.
Aquinus states there are hierarchies. Did he make them up? No, he cites a man named Dionysius. Did he make them up? No, he has apostolic credibility. That's a roundabout way of saying "just trust me bro"...
Some of the watchers are named. And the book of Enoch was once a part of canon. If people could read it a lot of things would make sense n the Bible. However, the book was meant for a remote generation which I think is us alive today.
Can someone please explain to me how God who love the man sooo much that He send His only son to die for us use the lowest ranking angels like Michael and Gabreil # Archangels...to deal with us? I would think that Archangels are much higher in the ranks given..
The hierarchy of angels describes roles, not worth. And I think the 'higher" and "lower" language is a metaphor-- think of us being at the bottom of a ladder, and God being at the top. "Lower" in this context just means closer to Earth, closer to us.
This was quite informative. I've heard of angelic ranks, but never really understood the hierarchy other than the names in the bible like seraphim, cherubim, and archangels. It's also nice to know the source is fairly arbitrary.
9:59 its weird to hear the word "awesome" being used like this in the fast. And here I thought this was a recent modern word
It is not arbitrary. He makes no reference to the Book of Revelations.
Bible only says *"Archangel"* it's not plural.
As a former seminarian I knew much of this but still learned a lot. You also presented something very esoteric in an interesting way. Great work.
The 4 Evangelists are also symbolized as a human (Mathew), a bull (Luke), a lion (Mark), and an eagle (John)
This was also written by Aquinas… although he probably wasn’t the first
And I’ve heard human saints who are patrons of particular things or places to also to be called principalities
Oh yeah. I wasn't aware of this. There's the eagle of St. John, winged lion of St. Mark, and the winged ox of St. Luke. I'm not sure what's St. Matthew's symbol is though.
Oh you're right. St. Matthew is associated with a winged angelic man. 😮
9:59 its weird to hear the word "awesome" being used like this in the fast. And here I thought this was a recent modern word

@timothyeyo9245 both of you are wrong. no where in the bible does is say that the devil was a fallen angel.
@nope4909 The devil and his angels are all fallen because they have sinned and are condemned. Just in the same way Man is fallen.
The " Book Of Enoch" is facinating story of " Angels" and Earth's Past.God Bless Your Work 😇
We Catholics have a chaplet - a term for prayer beads that are not the typical Dominican rosary - dedicated to them.
@@Dave_Sisson who says we don't?
4:50 Genesis 18:1-8 is also an early Christian Apologetics material for the Triune God. The Latin saying goes:

There is also Metatron who is said to have one eye and one tongue for every human of Earth to give testimony for their deeds.
Probably a translation of 'shines like beryl' which is often seen as Aquamarine. Though delightfully that means they got some wide range:
Goshenite-Clear/white
Heliodor-Yellow
Morganite-Pink
Emerald-Green
Bixbite-Red
None of what you wrote is from the Bible.
There is no such thing as *"Thrones"* or *"Ophanim",* your description is of them, reads more like *the Cherubim.*
*Seraphim* are God's personal guards.
Here is the correct and perfectly detailed hierarchy:
1️⃣☢️1st triad - the Cherubs, Seraphs & Thrones, are nearest to the Godhead, 'ever dwelling in the vestibule of Divinity'.
*that is the reason why God made them from different kinds of light*
Cherubs Hebrew: כְּרוּב pl. כְּרוּבִים (in Akkadian: 𒅗𒊏𒁍 karabu "to bless" such as 𒅗𒊑𒁍 karibu) *God created them from electricity & are the highest rank which guards the border between the 3rd heaven and the Father*
"The name Cherubim means 'Fullness of knowledge'. Through them the Providential Energy streams forth as a transcendental Light perfectly illuminating the soul, uniting it with the Divine Wisdom, and imparting a full and lucid understanding of the Divine Immanence in all things."
Seraphs (Hebrew: שרף pl. שְׂרָפִים)
*God created them from the venom of rattle snake with 6 wings*
"From the Seraphim, the 'Burning' or 'Fiery' Ones, flows the stream of supercelestial Grace. Like fire they consume all that separates man from God, enabling him to rise to the highest fulfillment of his destiny through the perfection and unification [2] of all the activities of the soul, and its union with the Divine."
Ophans (Hebrew: אופנים - אופן pl.)
*God created them from fire as forms of wheels of His heavenly throne*
"Thrones, 'Divine Seats', make manifest the purifying power of Providence which wholly penetrates the consciousness. Through them the soul is uplifted to the Divine and becomes established in the constancy of divine service."
2️⃣☢️2nd triad - the Dominions, Virtues, and Powers, are given the middle place as indicating the ordered governance of Providence. Through them the soul is liberated from all that is below and assimilated to that which is above.
*God made them all of regular light*
Supreme Angels
(מלאכי עליון :Hebrew)
"The Dominions impart order and justice, through which true liberty is gained."
Mercy Angels
(מלאכי רחמים :Hebrew)
"The Virtues are the bestowers of grace and valour."
Peace Angels
(Hebrew: מלאכי שלום)
"The Powers or Authorities give the providential aid which with irresistible power overcomes and re-directs the forces which fetter the mind of man to the things of earth."
3️⃣☢️To 3rd triad - of Principalities, Archangels, and Angels belongs the final execution of the work of Providence.
*God made them all of regular light*
Service Angels
(Hebrew: מלאכי שרת)
"The Principalities or Princes exhibit Divine Lordship & true Service. Through them soul may turn from its attachment to worldly pursuits to service of the Divine, & ultimately become a co-worker with His Ministers."
(אראלים .pl אראל :Hebrew) Erels
"Archangels imprint on all things the Divine Seal whereby the universe is the written word of God; they impart to soul spiritual light through which it may learn to read this divine book, & also to know & use rightly its own faculties."
☆the name derived from the personhood given them, unlike rest of Angels, with personal names all with the ending 'El'☆
Angels of God
(מלאכי יהוה :Hebrew)
●nameless angels - lowest rank●
"The Angels minister to all men & to things of nature, purifying & uplifting them."
✴️ As prophesied by St. Ezekiel, all Angels are organized & commanded by the wind power of the Holy Spirit:
And Man & Woman named by God after the firey body parts of Seraphs & Ophans:
חֹבְרֹת אִשָּׁה אֶל אֲחוֹתָהּ כַּנְפֵיהֶם לֹא יִסַּבּוּ בְלֶכְתָּן אִישׁ אֶל עֵבֶר פָּנָיו יֵלֵכוּ.

Bull - Taurus - Earth
Lion - Leo - Fire
Eagle - Scorpio - Water
Human - Aquarius - Air

I've found that the first verse of the hymn "Ye Watchers and Ye Holy Ones" conveniently lists all nine hierarchies of angels, from top to bottom:
"Ye watchers and ye holy ones,
Bright seraphs, cherubim and thrones,
Raise the glad strain, alleluia!
Cry out, dominions, princedoms, powers,
Virtues, archangels, angels' choirs,
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!"

The hierarchy always seemed like an EXTREME stretch to me lol
Very funny that archangels are way down on this scale when most people like myself understand them to be at the top above all others. It’s even funnier that Lucifer is thought to be a cherubim when seraphim even means serpent. I always thought that archangel and seraphim, angel and cherubim were interchangeable - two names for the same thing. How confusing it all is. 🤣
Good content delivered quite well. You make it truly interesting. I'd take a class of yours.
4:48 It's believed that the three angels visiting Abraham was one of the Holy Trinity's first "theophanies" or appearances in human forms on Earth.
Thanks.
The term "virtue" comes from the following passage in Ephesians:
1.20 which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all principality and power and MIGHT and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.
The mind boggles.)
And the Thrones - perhaps the most spectacular angels we know of - do nothing but "support the throne of God". That probably has some deep theological meaning, but the image it conjures up is quite odd. Even more so than the Seraphim constantly singing.
The idea, I think, is that to support the structure of Heaven requires a vast amount of power and organisation, even more so than the Earth.
Throne being nothing but an accessory that's great to look at and shows the rules power but has no practical use does sound about right
What I've found effective over the years, to a surprisng lenght, is to try to think about cases like this the way they would make sense in scifi novel.
So..... Aziraphele(a nonexistent name given to the cherub of the garden of eden in a fantasy book) should have been above Gabriel in rank?
That would be a good omen.
@@Tmhlink oh! Yes, it certainly would my dear.

Be not afraid.
When medieval monks debated how many angels could dance on the head of a pin, were they referring to just the lowest order in the angel hierarchy?
This was interesting. Thanks.

Chainsaw Man's readers: "Interesting, we might get Heaven arc later after the revelation of Pochita's followers in Part 1. Let Fujimoto cooks!"
Thank you so much 😊
So Isaiah suggest that satan hid like a Seraphim (the angels who always praised God) to convince eve to eat the fruit maybe satan was a beautiful seraphim who rebelled because he wish to be like God or wanted to replace God the fact the archangel Michael defeated him was Gods way of telling him even though he was the highest in heaven (possibly just below Christ and the trinity) he allowed a simple angel (who are described looking like basic man) to humble him
I have a problem when such things come from “interpretations” by man. It seems to me that mankind just makes even simple ideas more complicated than they need to be.
I believe this is because religious leaders and scholars went with what they knew. I don’t think they could have envisioned something so complicated seeming like heaven as being a simple place with simple hierarchies.
Where would Clarence the angel in “It’s A Wonderful Life “ be?
Brilliant film.. every time a bell rings , a angel gets his wings.
Thank you bro.
I don't believe that a hierarchy is Biblical, but Michael, the Arkangel, was definitely very important. He said that he "Stands in the presence of God."
Edit: Not to tear into the video, but almost none of it was actually Biblical.
Thank You Angel
Archangel miachel casually being seraphim level🗿
Very informative just one correction.. the four living creatures (man , lion, ox and eagle) are allegories for the 4 cardinal signs of the zodiac man is of course aquarius the ox is the bull taurus. The lion obviously is Leo and the eagle is a little tricky as everyone knows the 4th sign is scorpio and the last creature of the eagle.. the eagle actually was the ancient symbol for scorpio.. they aren't angels in the physical sense but the 4 different forces in an things ie earth water air and for fire
Aquarius, Leo and Scorpio aren't Cardinal signs. Those are fixed signs. The Cardinal signs are Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn.
Ah so that’s where the names of the angels in Persona come from.
9:59 its weird to hear the word "awesome" being used like this in the fast. And here I thought this was a recent modern word
I think The Most Accurate Hierarchy of Angels and Demons is from The Book of Wisdom written by King Solomon. It had detailed characteristics of Angels and Demons.
But, that book considered blasphemy to God, because its content had devils worshipping.
nice never thought that angles could have lore🤣
Can you please make a rank of demons video
If I remember correctly, lillith is not an angel.
For Jonas spent 3 days and 3 nights in the belly of the whale, so shall son of man spend 3 days and 3 nights in the belly of the earth, then judgement.
please do fallen angels. i would really like to know that part.
Yes... Without them, the bible would be boring..
@@Trancymindthats such a weird way to put it. But I understand where u comin from
@@Naijagyal22 I prefer greek mythology. The characters are very intriguing. Ancient egypts book of the afterlife is so much more interesting than the bible. The book is so thick like a brazilian woman. Mystery, weirdness, odd and paranormal are part of life. Everything is connected no matter if you tried to ignore it. Perspectives are unlimited just like the universal language 'numbers'.
You forget that the seraphim were also responsible for bestowing upon the Doom Slayer a terrible power… just kidding. I’m kind of confused though, I always thought the Ophanim/Throne were the highest ranking and closest to God
How can someone derive if the "hierarchy of angels" if there is no information given within the Holy Scriptures regarding that?
Protestant moment
What do you mean by this?
If you are struggling with the idea of angels ask God for guidance from the holy Spirit to elucidate the truth to you.
who would win in an 1vs1 mma match, angel vs demon?
I'm not gonna knock Dionysius, his name gave me pause immediately :D
"whether thrones or dominions or rulers or powers" The seat, the lands ruled over, the leader and what power they are allowed, to exert upon the people.
All I wanna do is read The Word :D "I dan't do naught never near enough!"
If anyone is curious, pray and consult The Word :) I didn't directly quote it, and any man's summary.. or any group of men's praxis, cannot come close to The Glory of God :) it's a gift that God lets us even try :D and, it's always God when things happen.
And angel just means messenger. It was more of a job description than a title
Also, biblical prophets had visions of God's throne and described creatures with multiple animal heads. Those aren't angels or archangels
@@PolarShine_ They could be.
The Catholic Church does teach the Nine Choirs of Angels. It isn't a medieval teaching, simply a teaching that comes from the Summa. The Catholic Church, however, does not recognize Uriel.
the thrones are similar to ufo where it hovers left to right and are surrounded by eyes or light around the wheel
Aquinus states there are hierarchies. Did he make them up?
No, he cites a man named Dionysius. Did he make them up?
No, he has apostolic credibility.
That's a roundabout way of saying "just trust me bro"...
The bible says our battle is not against the flesh(or fellow humans), but against thrones and principalities. .. so that's interesting
Do angels get promotions, and if so, how does that work???
Lucifer was a serafim from what i've heard. Great video tho!
This is what Kerbals think of while on transfer orbit.
However just like the universe is expanding so is the angelic roots and branches.
What about Metatron?
Yeah, I was thinking that too.
He is the scribe so maybe.....special rank?
Isnt Metatron found only in the Talmud and the book of Enoch, i believe he is described as an ophanim.
Very fair.
You do know that the thrown is actually called the ophanime
Some of the watchers are named. And the book of Enoch was once a part of canon. If people could read it a lot of things would make sense n the Bible. However, the book was meant for a remote generation which I think is us alive today.
No comment about neon Genesis Eva angel ?? I'm too early
Interesting and informative
