    Body butters do not (usually) have water in them so they are not hydrating. They are conditioning and lock moisture into your skin. The true difference between the two is body butter is typically made completely of oils, lotion has water in it among other things

    • @MenchieExtrakt
      @MenchieExtrakt 3 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      if you read the ingredients list, the top ingredients are water(aqua, glycerin and oils. Also, a humectant can draw in moisture into your skin, glycerin being a good example. so just because a product has no water, it doesn't mean it can't hydrate

    • @mattandchristijohnson1111
      @mattandchristijohnson1111 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@MenchieExtrakt I addressed this in my comment already. If it has water then it can hydrate, which means to add water. A product without water cannot hydrate, it can moisturize, they are not the same thing. If a "body butter" has water in it then it is not a true body butter, it is a lotion.

      There are two types of body butter. Anhydrous and Hydrous. Body butters with water content in them are called hydrous or they may also be labeled as “emulsified body butter” and they are still called body butter because of the high content of butter and oils in it. Some people don’t like the greasiness or hardness that anhydrous body butter has, therefore they make emulsified versions.

    I'm a new subscriber and came across this video but today.when should body butter be used on the skin? Should it be used during the day or at night? For example, the sanctuary spa body butter. Secondly, are body butter good for all skin texture? Should it be used empty or in can be use or mix with naturals like olive oil, almonds, tea tree oils etc.

      It depends on your skin needs.
      My skin is very dry but oils doesn't work that much, so I use body lotion, specifically ones containing glycerin because they help removing dead skin (so I don't have to exfoliate that much), which is my actual problem.
      Oils only sit on the surface and just feels greasy for me, body butter is a huge no.
      If you're going to try body butter, then, only use when you just finished showering or bathing, first because your skin will be softer, "open" by hot water and easier to absorb, also, it'll be a bit hotter on the surface, so it'll melt better on your skin.
      Actually, always apply any moisturizer just after showering, that's the best timing.

    Is body butter good during dry/ tropical climates? If so, how does it react and feel when used in that environment? Also, what happens when you place body butter in the fridge for that added cold sensation?

    • @aneliadremsizova4194
      @aneliadremsizova4194 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I do it every summer I like to keep some of my cosmetics in the fridge last for longer and is nice right after shower also before to leave my house mmm all day long my body smells 🙃 nice yumma like a cup cake 🎂 😋 for the people who passes 😄 near me on the road also in the working place.

    • @cosmicheav3n
      @cosmicheav3n ปีที่แล้ว

      I live in a tropical country and body butter sometimes can be too heavy and quite sticky during the day so I opted for body lotion even though I have dry skin but I sweat a lot so I use it at night (because I sleep with the AC on) and it has helped my skin immensely.
      I've never placed body butter in a fridge but I'd imagine the texture would change and might possibly harden.

    • @mattandchristijohnson1111
      @mattandchristijohnson1111 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You want to add water because your skin is dry but also lock that moisture in, so lotion would be better. Balms and butters may help some people but they can actually exacerbate issues with dry skin.

    • @h1stacean
      @h1stacean 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mattandchristijohnson1111 I think you are correct but just after bathing *when the skin is hydrated* which will be more appreciable-balm or butter?
      P.S. I am applying Shea body butter from the body shop and it works and I was wondering if I should switch to a balm.

    • @mattandchristijohnson1111
      @mattandchristijohnson1111 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@h1stacean well... It really depends on your skin. Skin care is such a personal thing. Balm would really hold in that water but it won't condition as well as butter. Butter will soak in a lot faster. A LOT faster. I would also take a look at the soap you are using, you may want to switch to something milder. And I would do soap over body wash because of some of the surfactants companies use in body wash are more harsh than what you find in actually soap.
