Thanks for answering my question Branden! Glad to hear you're going to Japan next year, it's amazing! you'll love it! Also regarding who started your channel, I also started around the time Emily did and it's been lovely seeing her grow as well. Goes to show how you never know who or how you'll influence others :)
Congrats on 10k... I mean 11k Branden! So happy to see your channel grow to what it is. I know I don’t comment a lot or let alone communicate 😅 But I do my best to support my homies whenever I can!
Noooo, I think I accidentally heard a spoiler for Trails. 100% my fault for not paying attention. I’m grinding levels in CS2 right now and only just met McBurn. I mean I knew he was some weird demon or something because he Rean asks him how much of him is “something else” and he says “100%”. So some serious foreshadowing. But now I’m super intrigued about whatever McBurn realizes or sees. I can’t wait to make it to that part.
Congratulations on 11K Branden! I love the interaction between the JRPG community, I'm proud to have been part of some of these channels since the early days.
Congratulations! Thank you for answering my question. It is always cool to have people I watch or listen to mention my name. It means a lot to us listeners and keeps us coming back.
Loved this video! Thanks for taking the time to answer 😁PS I’d be more than happy to listen to you talk about anything you’re passionate about. Whether that’s other genres or not even games at all. Thanks for the vid! 🙏
I would love to see you put out some videos on horror games, or games of other genres. I'm actually not a big JRPG person, I just subscribed for the vibes and I like hearing people talk about things they enjoy, even if it's not a topic I'm all that interested in experiencing personally
It was nice to hear Silent Hill 2 mentioned here. I played it through a couple of weeks ago. Silent voice reminds me of FF8 Squall when he silently thinks sometimes events, which have happened before or sometimes how he is not sure about himself or refuses to be leader of the team..
Very informative video Branden. Hopefully the damage wasn’t too bad on your property. If we ever find any of your music or novel out in the wild, would you autograph it?
It's crazy that the more you say about yourself the more I relate to you lol. I grew up in Chicago and moved to the burbs for HS. Horror games have always been my favorite interest alongside horror films! I think it would be fantastic to see horror content on the channel. A mix of everything is sort of what I go for and prefer on YT. Congrats on 11K!!!
Congrats again on the 10k! Sorry for the delay in watching this, but I appreciate you reading my question. I'll hold you to doing that cosplay of FF17's main character 👀
Great job Branden!! So happy for you and your success. I watch a bunch of jrpg TH-camrs and I have a huge collection of games as well, and you are my absolute favorite. I really value your thoughts and insight. I’m also a musician and so appreciate music in JRPGs as you do. Thanks for being you and I can’t wait for more videos! Kiseki forever!!! 🥰
Fantastic video, congrats on 10k subs again! One thing I would beg you for is that Xenosaga retrospective. I think that I'm a bit older than you are, and that those Takahashi games came out after I'd grown up, gone to college and had to get a real job, so I sort of missed a lot of things post-Playstation 2 era. I'd love to see a compelling video put together that argues their merits, because if I'm going to take the dive and play them, over stuff that's coming out right now, I need some motivation to do so. You know how it is with a franchise you've never been into before, sometimes, you just need a pal to hand you the game and give you a push to take the dive. I suspect there are many people who watch your channel who are in that strange gap in life where they missed something big and they just need the motivation to go back and give it a try. I agree with your assessment of the gaming landscape right now, simply put, the AAA development model is not sustainable. Concord took not only close to half a billion dollars to make, it spent 7 years in development. How do you even know what the cultural climate will be in 7 years? Concord was based on Guardians of the Galaxy, which had a moment and then lapsed. Not only are these games too expensive, but even more of a problem is that they take too long to make. By the time they come out, the cultural context that greenlit them is long gone. I think the way Falcom stays profitable is that their absolutely rabid and devoted fanbase buys tons of merch in addition to games, so they have additional revenue streams to keep things afloat in the even a game is a dud. Also, their north American sales numbers are starting to really catch up to Japan. One of the things I most remember about Anime Expo in LA this year is that I was waiting in line to get into the Trails Kondo panel on Friday afternoon in that 95+ degree LA heat, and I remember turning to the guy behind me and saying "I don't know anyone in real life who likes this stuff that I do." He looked at me and said "I don't know anyone in my real life who does either." JRPGs are still a niche in the US, and it's great to have channels like this one where folks can gather and just be fans. I don't know anyone in my real life who likes this stuff, and I got made fun of for liking FF 6 when I was in high school, it's nice to watch things with like-minded people. I really appreciate you sharing your grandmaster theory with me after I shared mine with you at Anime Expo. Only thing I'll say (and this is a tiny Daybreak 1 spoiler; I know nothing about Daybreak 2 of Kai) - Professor Latoya Hamilton absolutely, positively, 100% is suspicious, to me. I get "Professor Alba" vibes from her. The other two Epstein disciples have faults: Russell is absent-minded and has lax views on child endangerment, and Schmidt is a total ass-hole in every way. Hamilton has no obvious faults; she's the wonderful grandmother everyone loves. The entire trails series loves duality, she absolutely has a dark side.
I will definitely get to that retrospective. It's been on my mind a TON more since making this video. Yeah, and getting to talk about this stuff with people, even if it's mostly through comments or tweets or whatever, is a huge thing for me. I was completely the same, growing up and through most of my adulthood, I was the only person I know who had these interests. That's starting to change now, and it's just because I did TH-cam. Always appreciate your comments, as one of the few viewers I've had the pleasure of having a conversation with IRL!
Congrats again Branden on your 10k (wait 11k now!?). Appreciate you answering my question too. You seem like a genuinely good dude and I really enjoy your videos man. Also learning you're a Game Chasers fan, hell yeah! Keep killin it. 👍👍
As someone who's previously been to Japan, just an FYI. If you dont want the possibility of being shipped back to the U.S. the moment you get off the plane, make sure you have a place to stay for at least the first night. My friends and I were asked by border security where we were staying and they wouldn't let us into Japan until we had one, we were originally just planning on finding a capsule hotel or hostel on the fly so didn't already have a place reserved. So we thankfully were able to connect to the airport wifi and book a place, oops 😅. Congrats on 10k Branden, next goal, 100k! P.S. That Ys X situation sounds like there was the highest of highs and lowest of lows, here's to hoping the next one will have full voice acting for him!
Oof, that's concerning. We should be okay, I'm traveling with some heavy planners, so I imagine every single hour of each day will be planned out in advance 😄
Honestly? I first clicked on one of your vids because I thought you were cute. Then I stayed because of your sense of humour and the type of content you were making for the JRPG YT landscape. Now a definite supporter because of the glimpses of a quality human being that has shone through from time to time. 😊 Congrats Branden and keep it up! You'll only continue to grow. P. S. You need to work on volume/audio balancing/equalization when it comes to your vids. Really got to pump the volume up on your videos compared to others. Just a heads up!
Thank you so much! And yeah, I hear you with the audio, I was under the impression YT normalizes audio, but I guess it doesn't bring it up like I assumed. I'll just bump it up in general in the future.
Congrats man! Over the moon that you’re moving up and still getting to do what you love. Cool to know you’re living in Chicago as well lol I’m born and raised. Keep up the great content 👍🏽
As an abstract horror filmmaker and avid Silent Hill fan (my favorite being 4), hearing more about your thoughts on horror has my vote. Hope Chicago is working well for you! I just left a few months ago and I miss it sometimes, just not the parking 😓
I really want to talk more horror on the channel, I'm going to try and make a point of it in 2025. Chicago is still great - aside from the parking (and right now, the weather...😩) (By the way, I really enjoyed Gentile.)
@@JustTheGems That weather, it's like 2 to 3 months of good times and then it's pretty rough; still haven't gotten all the rust off my car from parking under the L during multiple rainy months lol. Thanks so much for checking out Gentile! I think as a fellow Silent Hill fan you would especially appreciate my MFA thesis film, it's got some "nods" I'll say. It also features a creature design by a couple of industry vets that I feel encapsulates that mix of pity and fear you might recognize. Definitely down to chat horror (writing, films, games) anytime as well if you're interested. Best of luck man, I'll be around!
The why make a channel really vibes with me... I know our channels are different in style, but I eventually decided to put up my twitch vods as a repository as I play a lot of older retro rpgs and sometimes... my video is the ONLY one up. I may be obscure, but it may help someone someday. Treasure of the Rudras was a REALLY good game, it was translated very well if you ever decide to play it...
Congratulations on the milestone! I seldom comment but I wanted to say I really enjoy your content and personality. Always a joy to watch. Keep it up! Looking forward to your eventual Xenogears video!
Great video as always! Congrats on your channel growing, because you deserve every single subscriber. I primarily play JRPGs, but I honestly wouldn't mind if you added horror videos to the channel. I am a scaredy cat, and my idea of a horror game is Luigi's Mansion, but I would still watch and support. Who knows, you may have some horror recommendations for people like me 😊
I'm also a musician, so my questions are what DAW do you use and what is your preferred guitar brand/style? I use Reaper as a DAW, and I heavily lean toward Schecter for guitars!
I used Reaper for a bit, but my old computer honestly had a hard time running it? (It wasn't a great computer.) Then I switched to Garageband (probably blasphemous, I know...) because I was able to turn out background tracks even quicker than with others that I'd tried.
Congrats, man! You are awesome and totally deserve all of this! Your channel is my go-to for gaming. Speaking of which: Have you played Ys X: Nordics? If so, what did you think? I'm loving it, haha! Congrats again 😄😎🤘🏻👍
Thank you for answering my question!! In the time that has passed since I asked it I have been enjoying Metaphor ReFantazio. Sooooo glad to see that the same team that made P4, which I abandoned due to the outdated views and annoying story bits I mentioned, has made one of my favorite games of 2024. Maybe it's time to give P4 another chance... 😂
I have what I assume is a very unpopular opinion about that question that involved P4 😂. Loved the video. Congratulations on the milestone. One of my favorite channels to follow.
Awesome video. Since you were a writer at one point, do you read novels too. I read a lot of fantasy and some sci fi but these days reading is on the back burner and just playing games. I have read some fiction classic type books here and there recently. Looking forward to that Xenogears video!!!
I do. I read a lot of horror, especially lately. Though even more so lately I've been reading really weeby light novels...😅 I need to branch out some more for sure.
I would watch horror content, my favorite game of all time is Alan Wake so it's right in my wheel house and I certainly wouldn't mind it being on this channel? If you wouldn't want to split your potential audience? Wither way though, yeah, if you wanna do horror content we'd be here for it.
"nobody wants to sit and watch me yap for 2 hours" Proceeds to make the video an hour and a half. 🤣 Seriously though. congratulations man. Love your content. Always a treat to see a new video from you.
Deleted my original comment, but wanted to at least Congratulate you, you deserve it! Oh, and Happy Fake Thanksgiving Branden! I shouldn’t throw around heavy spoilers based on glimpses I’ve seen from Kai, just because I just can’t help myself when I see the top video on my timeline saying “Rean vs. Yun-Ka-Fai SHOWDOWN,” even if the AI translations being used are misleading as f***! There’s a lot going on there, multiverses, Demon Lords, something special between the Grahlsritter and Rean (or his spirit unification), time manipulation, and then there’s Epstein and his disciples. I don’t think Hamilton is the Grandmaster, Van meets her in Kai apparently; but Hamilton does know a lot more than she’s letting on about Zemuria as a whole, and I think there’s a very real connection between the Mad Disciple who became the Fifth Anguis(I think?) and the three disciples, I just don’t trust AI to properly translate key plot elements for me while remaining contextually accurate. There’s no such thing as Word-to-Word translations between Japanese and English, unlike what the a core element of the fanbase seems to think. English and all languages based off of Latin and German/the Alphabet, and the evolution Eastern dialects into the written form we see today, were created for very different purposes and audiences. Western languages were meant for the aristocracy, literacy wasn’t expected from over 95% of speakers. It evolved through art and philosophy among a privileged few a full millennium before the concept of public schools teaching literacy was ever in consideration, children were expected to work and probably die, not read. In Japan, Han China, and later Korea-possibly India as well-pictograms were used to roughly mimic the spoken language, rather than force people to speak based on the way the language is written. In the West, you could tell whether someone could read based on how they spoke; in the East writings were intended to inform as many people as possible, in the simplest way possible. This evolved overtime based on the regional variations to the Japanese language. I bring this up because AI fucking sucks at depicting and understanding context. And if you don’t understand the context a Japanese word is used in, then you could easily butcher the thesis of major plot points because you don’t realize that-for example-Class VII has had multiple iterations and graduating classes at this point, it isn’t just some random seventh class from Thors, it’s everyone who was ever a student in Class VII under Sarah, and then Rean. When there’s parallel timelines being discussed, too, verb conjugation really matters. I say all this because much of the flack NISA gets for being “liberal” with their translations is nonsense. There’s a reason it takes forever to localize Japanese games, you can’t localize without knowing the developers intended meaning.
I don't think digital only games are inevitable. To this day, we can all still buy records, cassettes, blue ray, etc, if we want it. Edit: I also agree that Elaine was very meh in Daybreak. Agnes was much better, but Van was the star hands down
Very true, but I'm thinking that there are a TON of music and movies and stuff that you can't get on physical media (lots of the streaming stuff as an example), so my guess is that video games will be similar. A lot of them will get physical releases in some way or another, but there will be quite a few that just don't. Which is actually the case now, though typically only with smaller indie titles. And yeah, I really want to like Elaine, but I'm just less interested in the stoic/stern type of character. Real buzzkill. But there are signs that she has an interesting story that we get glimpses of, so I'm eager to see it
@JustTheGems true story. There's also only so much tension I can see between Van and Elaine before I'm just screaming "MARRY HER AND HAVE LOTS OF KIDS ALREADY"
Big congrats Branden! Thanks for the lengthy vid & looking forward to seeing your continued TH-cam journey :)
Thanks Emily! It's been so much fun getting to do all this stuff with you, here's to many more milestones for us both!

Congrats buddy!
Thanks!
Congrats! 🎉🎉🎉
Thank you!!!
Oh cool I'm first view and first comment
Appreciate you!
I would watch horror content, my favorite game of all time is Alan Wake so it's right in my wheel house and I certainly wouldn't mind it being on this channel? If you wouldn't want to split your potential audience? Wither way though, yeah, if you wanna do horror content we'd be here for it.
Good to know, thank you!! 😁
My question may have gotten overlooked but in general what does you & your wife do for a living to help support your gaming hab....errr I mean hobby!😊
Sorry I missed it! I work in Medicaid and she's a teacher - so, not the most lucrative of work, but we get by! 😅
@@JustTheGems cool! My wife is a teacher & im in healthcare!
"nobody wants to sit and watch me yap for 2 hours"
Proceeds to make the video an hour and a half. 🤣
Seriously though. congratulations man. Love your content. Always a treat to see a new video from you.
Lol exactly, 90 minutes, no problem. 2 hours?? No way 😂
We made it Branden....oh, we made it. Remember when we played El Mamey??
Oh, Mamers?

I'm trying to buy your book right now through Amazon Kindle and it won't let me (I live in Mexico).
😢
Oh no! Sorry, they don't give me any control over that... 😔
Wasn't Turtles the Arcade game released as part of the Cowabunga Collection?
Also... the Elaine slander 😔
😅 I wanted to like her! But she seemed to only be stoic and stern in the first game, maybe they give her more interesting stuff in the sequels! 🤞
This. Next game needs a summer vacation chapter where they show Elaine actually having fun for once 😂
We need to start calling it TWIX (Cross between twitter & X!😂)
Then people will argue about whether they're a Right TWIX or a Left TWIX! 😂
Is there a left twix? 😅
Sorry, I have to ask. Were these questions picked purposely to advertise other TH-camrs lol? It can't be a coincidence.😂
Nope! I was honestly surprised at how many TH-camrs I watch contributed
