Ha, my wife is always bemoaning how difficult I am to shop for because I just buy myself whatever I’m wanting (perks of being middle aged with no kids). After 30 years of not being able to afford shit, it’s hard not to treat myself when im hyper focused on a new hobby or video game franchise and i know i have the disposable income.
That Yasunori Mitsuda & Millenial Fair arrangement album is really, really good. If you're someone who enjoys the music of Chrono Cross (or even Mitsuda, in general) would also highly recommend finding a copy of the Chrono Cross 20th Anniversary Live Tour on Blu-ray. Absolutely amazing concert and copies of this still somewhat available for close to the MSRP.
Instead of the analogue pocket I'd suggest the retroid pocket 4/5 handheld for about the same price it can run ps2 and game cube games and more, it's also horizontal so much more comfortable in the hand. Looks like a mix between the vita and the switch but with a better screen 😂 And if you want something that hits that game boy nostalgia the get a R36S handheld. It can play game from psx and below, and it can be bought for around £20-30 ($30-40) which is much more reasonable for someone looking to see if retro games are for them.
Posters and figures are always a nice gift idea for me since I will usually splurge on games but abstain from merch since that gets to be more expensive and less justifiable from my own little cost-benefits analysis. I think the most "esoteric" gift I ever got was an Emil coin bank - my own personal headcanon is that if I actually used it, I would have to break to access the coins. There's just something a little too fitting about that thought (even though that's definitely not the case). There are also quite a few JRPG franchises that have received novelized spin-offs or anime adaptations, and those can make for solid gift ideas as well!
For the Final Fantasy and history fan, I'd recommend "Greek Myths that Inspired Final Fantasy VII" as well as "Norse Myths that Inspired Final Fantasy VII" by MJ Gallagher.
I love that Trails poster in the background. I’ve been playing through all of the games from the start this past two months. I’ve made it to Trails of Cold Steel and it’s phenomenal. Also, definitely a Cloud guy. I don’t even like Sephiroth. Not sure how anyone could like the character that literally murders sweet little Aerith. Guess some ppl are just into that.
great video. 100% with you on game apparel thats a lot more understated. however, i do have some pretty sick old school DQ and FF gear that looks amazing and the designs are a little on the larger side. not obnoxiously splashy, but not exactly discreet either. im always looking for more stylish game apparel so thanks for the heads up.
Since last year I have been collecting all the Final Fantasy Music boxes and I think they can be greats gifts. Here is what the Final Fantasy 1 music box sounds like: th-cam.com/video/6OxHcAAjltU/w-d-xo.html
Great video! I definitely agree with the art books. Not necessarily an RPG, but any art from the world of Metal Gear Solid is an immediate pickup for me.
Hey man. New subscriber here for the last month or 2. Just want to let you know, you do a great job with this channel so keep up the good work. Happy holidays
The Square Enix store definitely has the goods. Especially if you're a fan of Chrono Cross, for a long time they had basically nothing there. And now they've got all these neat things related to the epic score. The Squenix store also has more than I'd remembered, including some Atlus products, apparently (Atlus' old shop was BAD). They've got a melody clock for the last 3 Persona games, which is AWESOME.
Branden this is a little off-topic, but have you played and/or reviewed Granblue Fantasy Relink? Considering the game and interested in your thoughts. Thanks and keep up the good work!

Just listening to that live performance, you hear the absolute MAGIC that was on stage that day. I need to see it.

Super cool guide! Lots of cool stuff!!! Great video, Branden!
Great video, thanks a bunch Brandon. Thanks also for your heartfelt summary of DQ games. Merry Christmas!
Totally agree on the understated clothing. That mothman sweatshirt was perfect
Dopamine. That’s why. Dopamine.

I like the Art lover section. I would recommend the artbook of Tactics Ogre. Its beautiful!.
Really inventive and fun list, thanks!

I'm all for artbooks! I tend to collect 80s and 90s fantasy illustrators artbooks though lol. Lots of cool items in this list!
This list is missing just one thing - a Harvestella soundtrack. Square Enix need to make that happen.
Retroid Pocket 5 - Perfect for PS2 and Gamecube games....

sorry I love my Retroid Pocket 3+ but I also have a hacked 3ds for 3ds and ds games
Just got a RP5 to replace my dying Vita but definitely agree nothing can emulate NDS and 3DS game better than a actual 3DS😂
the best gift is money.
I have the Yoshitaka Amano -The Sky- books, they are absolutely amazing.
Akihiko Yoshida. Put some respec on his name.

Final Fantasy peaked with VII...and then stayed good until after 10😁 But I like Main FF with turn based mechanics
Art books are so so good
