how did you get the pistons and rings in place if the conrods are already covered and attached to the crank?

This is the first time I've ever seen this engine apart! How can 2nd gear fail like that? The slipper clutch on my 2020 activates on sloppy upshifts and downshifts so this is puzzling. Was the shift drum damaged too?

In this case, there was a recall on the 2nd gear, however, running at high speeds in lower gears for prolonged periods of time during the break-in period could also cause this in non-faulty gears. We aren't sure if this 2nd gear was faulty or if it was due to high speeds, but multiple parts had to be replaced due to the explosion damage. Luckily the shift drum was not damaged though.

My 2015 ninja 650 is stuck in 2nd gear is it fixable or should I buy and engine from eBay?

I would recommend getting it check out by a powersports service department before buying a new engine! It may be a quick fix or way cheaper to fix through a service dept. than on your own!

The owner must have abused the bike in someway never heard of the bulletproof parallel twins having any issues.

There was a recall on this 2nd gear, so we can't be certain if it was a faulty gear or if it high speeds in low gears for prolonged periods of time during the break in period. It actually broke a hole in the engine casing too which was crazy to see!
