The Renault Austral, is the Qashqai’s all-hybrid cousin with an all new name, essentially replacing the Kadjar SUV.
Renault has come a long way (as most brands have!) their 1.2 E-Tech Powertrain is very interesting, including a 1.2 turbo-charged 3-cylinder engine mated with the electric motors on the front wheels and pumping out 200BHP.
The Austral is an interesting option, in the crowded mid size hybrid SUV market, with options available from Honda, Ford, Kia and many more. Not having driven it myself, I can’t directly say how it is on the road, that would definitely be something I’d recommend doing if you are in the market.

Hi, great review as usual. However if I may point out that I have just ordered to top of the range Iconic with 4 control and it does come with the spare wheel, so the fact that it has 4 wheel steering does not seem to have hinder this option. Kind regards.
Love the austral. One thing though for UK buyers be careful when buying top spec with black roof as it pushes you above £40k for road tax unless the car is white/black.
Having studied the DVLA Page about this they go by the list price which is just under the £40000 price. This is the figure used before any deductions so I take this means any cosmetic extras like colour choice will not count (hopefully!)

Note to all reviewers, the “new” badge IS NOT NEW! It was the standard badge back in the 1980’s!
I have the mid spec in Arctic White with the black roof and it wasn’t an extra for me.
Do your research better, the spare wheel is only a £300 option on cars that are to built to order, any in showrooms cannot have this deal.
Over all the Australian is head and shoulder above the Qashqai hence why it is more expensive.
Hi Steven thanks for watching, yes I know about the badge being the original one but it’s not been on Renaults for years so it is the newest badge!
At the time of filming and now the Arctic White contrast paintwork is a £500 option. Most reviewers base the prices off ordering a brand new car from the factory, that’s what I mean by it’s a £300 factory option, not dealer fit accessory.
