I own one of these now thanks in part to your video. The grill is a similar design to Peugeot 3008 no surprise as the designer imagined both cars! You got a special car as the grey is only available on the top spec whereas most other reviewers got blue cars. Had I not lived over 200 miles away I would have ordered one from you because you do very good reviews without bias!
Ordered one in Czechia in September, expecting delivery in February. Techno trim, TCe 160 mild hybrid cvt, though - the E-Tech 200 full hybrid hit the Czech market literally a week after i had signed the order for mine...

This is probably the best video I have seen on the Austral or Nostril as I can’t help but call it now even though I fancy getting one! I have 2 questions for you: 1. How did you find the comfort of the drive over our pothole covered roads? 2. Did you assess the various settings of the 4control and steering feedback and if so was there a favoured setting of yours personally? 18:19
Thanks really glad you enjoyed it. The suspension is setup for comfort so handles the bumps really well. As for the 4CONTROL I always set it to maximum as I like to have a really positive front end when I turn in. However I can also appreciate some people might find this setting twitchy when they drive so they'll turn it down to maybe 6 or 7. Some of my colleagues turn its all the way down to 1. It is all personal preference so I'd suggest test driving the car and find what works for you.

My husband just bought himself an Arkana and is very pleased,beautiful to drive,we both love it,i still have my Captur which i'm very attached to she's my metal baby. I do love the Austral though,it does look gorgeous,i would have the bright blue colour,loving the stripey nose badge.❤ Does the entry level Techno come in that gorgeous bright blue?

Austral means "south" and not precisely for Australia, actually for the southern region of Argentina and Chile called Patagonia. That area is known as Austral.
what a great looking car and a very passionate review, well done. As I look at the entertainment screen videos that are available I don't see how to set up dab radio channels etc, are they on this car and can they be scanned for the areas where you live. Starting to see more Australs on the roads now. Thanks again B
Sorry to have to say this but the Panoramic Sun roof, the wireless battery charger, Harmon Kardon sound system, the 4 control advanced steering and the Matrix LED adaptive driving beam headlights are anything BUT standard on the Iconic Esprit Alpine. I know because I have one and together all these very expensive accessories cost me around 4500 euros on top of the showroom price.

Currently there is a supply issue on tow bars but that information is quite old so I've asked for an update from Renault UK. I hopefully should have an answer for you early next week.

Filmed on Chobham Common? Some of us don't want sporty agressive-looking cars. I rue the days that the Scenic and Grand Scenic were discontinued from the UK marketplace; MPV's were just so practical. Mind you, all these modern cars have grown so wide that when I park them in my garage there's not enough room to open the door to get out. Am I the only one who still parks a car in their domestic garage?
It was yes. Same place you'll find Autocar, whatcar, auto express etc. I very much expect to bump into them one day. Can't say I park in my garage but then I believe the size standard hasn't increased since the 1970s

Instead we offer Harmon Kardon which is standard on the Espirt Alpine Iconic model.

I've checked both the demonstrator and our display car in the showroom and neither of them creak. Feel free to come to our Aldershot branch to investigate for yourself.
As a Renault owner who knows how reliable their electrics are, I wonder how these new cars will fare with so much more electric and electronic control? I wonder at what age and mileage this shiny new one will be too costly to repair? This is an often forgotten aspect of the lifetime cost to the planet's resources.
Just like any other Renault, it will be lovely relaxing drive, until electric fault. And going by their record, there will be plenty of them at regular intervals.
As a previous renault owner I simply wouldn't buy one. I really hated my last renault ownership that much and the embarrassment of it throwing an electrical paddy whilst arriving in calais on the front of a cross channel ferry completely immobilising itself, had to be pushed off the ferry. I left it for the 2 weeks and hired a car. This was after a replacement gearbox, thermostat, aircon compressor in the first 10k miles of ownership
You can use Apple CarPlay on the car. You'll see the icon for it at 6.50. The top speed of the car is 108 mph but I wouldn't reccomend more than 71mph otherwise cars with blue flashing lights tend to follow you.
Hi Great Tutorial, everything was explained well, Points I missed, t heated windscreens and rear-window, AWD, and Charging Times, is it possible to download a Brochure with specifications, etc. I don't understand why so cheap high-spec vehicle. were is the catch, how long is the warranty, most new cars now are offering a 7-10years warranty, Thanks again welshman2081

In answer to your questions, there's no electrical heating elements in the windscreen, the car is FWD only, charging times isn't applicable as this is only available as a self charge hybrid. You can download a brochure from renault.co.uk with all the specifications. The warranty offered is 3 years but this can be extended for additional cost.
Had Iconic 3 weeks. Good concept that is terrible in practice. Car has many brilliant features, for example the lights are fantastic, as is the 4 wheel steer. BUT, all sorts of problems, engine revving it's nuts off for no reason, "gearbox" hunting for gears when cruising on the flat, lane departure taking control when it's not switched on (frightening). Even left me stuck in car park entrance, brakes jammed on because brake failure that cleared itself after 20 minutes. Car going in for checks, will keep you posted.
Wow…..seems like the Japanese stable of cars have a lot of work to do……I will wait a few years, but this is almost certainly the car I will buy, it looks stunning and the top model has all I would want…..very impressed….very.
I drive cars for a living, many being high end cars or brand new BMW models and I've got to say driving this the other day has made me want it very much so. It is absolutely one of the top 3 cars I have driven whilst being at a much more affordable price it really is a great car.

I had an arkana, quickly got rid of. Horrendous transmission system. I now have the Austral top spec, so much better but I still love my 2.0 dci Koleos 4wd. Nothing beats this for comfort. It's like sitting in an armchair at home.

@crooshj9051 The sound system is very good, clear and great bass, as for paying the extra for the top spec, most definitely. The 4 control system at slow speeds and parking is really amazing. At faster speeds, you feel more confident with tight bends. The mid range Austral has the same driver aids as the top spec. I'm sure you know what extras you get with the top spec but this is what I have, wireless phone charging, 360 camera, 4CONTROL steering system, better rear suspension than the mid spec, glass sunroof and the upgraded sound system. If you have not had a test drive yet, see if you can have a test drive in both and then compare and decide what is best for you.
@@cornwallkev201 I appreciate your response. I haven't test driven the top trim, but i felt that the handling was quite decent on the mid trim. Going by how the 4C system is described, It must be significantly better though. The sound is also important to me, so I had to ask. The Arkamy's sound system isn't bad, but the extra punch & clarity is something I know I'd be thinking about when owning or leasing any new car, because I'm used to listening to an above average sound system. Am I the only one who finds the Renault UK Brochure and Price List for this to be quite frankly the worst ever, most user unfriendly posted on the internet ? I cannot get the supposed separate specs PDF to open or download. It either does nothing or flags up a 404. Tried different browsers, allowing pop ups.
Great car while under warranty. Get rid before the warranty runs out, like all these over complex cars. Bet ya the 'dealer learning guide' doesn't mention it.
Alternatively you could take out an extended warrenty. But if the Renault products are too complex for you then we have an alternative more simplier product called Dacia that may be more suitable for you.

I told the missus today, I crashed the car but don’t panic, it was a best crash in that it didn’t happen 🤪🤪🤪, no damage done to the car but the Warden caused me minor damage. No this isn't a rebadging exercise. The technologies are different. The e-power system doesn't connect the engine to the wheels where as the E-TECH system does. It's also worth pointing out the E-TECH is actually 10hp more powerful at 200hp compared to Nissans 190hp. Fuel economy is better on the Renault too with a WLTP figure of 60.1 mpg compared to Nissans 53.3.
Another useless suv for me. Where is the boot space??? I have an Avantime and could fit that entire car in my boot without having to fold the rear bench.
That'll be because the Avantime was a D segment vehicle where as this is in the smaller C segment. But as I specified earlier in the video SUVs is what everyone wants so thats what Renault is giving them.
@@smcmotorgroup I’ve been looking to go electric and replace my Aventime for a good number of years now have seen to pretty much every manufacturer’s option in this segment and they’re all the same, rear space is laughable. Mine may be a category larger, but when they are side-by-side, they make my Aventime look small. The only option that size that makes sense to me is one of the options on the shared Kangoo platform including the incoming Mercedes T class
An electric model will come in the future and will offer size and space comparible to the Austral. If what you need is an electrified hybrid however the Austral is class leading. Its also worth baring in mind that manufacuters have had to follow ever more stringent safety tests that have evolved a lot since the Aventime was on sale meaning that the rear crash scructures have to be more robust which unfortuntatly does eat into boot space but even with that in mind the Austral has 45 litres more boot space at 555 litres compared to the Aventimes 510. In a size comparison the Aventime is 132mm longer, 9mm narrower and 8mm taller so both are very similar. The Kangoo electric unfortunatly will only come to the UK in a van configuration and the Mercedes EQT will have a starting price of £42,000est. If you wanted comparible spec to the Austral you'll be looking closer to £50,000. If however boot space is the be all and end all and you don't want to spend that kind of money then maybe consider the Dacia Jogger. As a hybrid it would cost almost half that of the Mercedes and give you 699 litres as a 5 seater. Fold the seats down and that then becomes 1807. Hopefully this answers some of the concerns you have.
@@smcmotorgroup I just realised what I failed to mention is I'm a wheelchair user, the Avantime was my third Renault after my much loved Laguna and original scenic. The Isoflex seating in the scenic was magnificent and allowed a plethora of connotations of me, family, wheelchair, accessories and more. When it came to replace it my dealer had an X demonstrator V6 Avantime or a new scenic at the same price… As you know, the Avantime is and always will be a beautiful machine and I just had to have it. It's a shame the current Renault lineup no longer has Isoflex seating… Did they sell the rights to Skoda? As the Karoq has them and it is a strong contender. Unfortunately, whatever I finally opt for will be my last driver as I become less and less physically able to do so. But 21 years with this glorious Renault has been an absolute joy, and I am quite big on brand loyalty.

Might be worth speaking to your dealer as you might still be able to change the spec before they build it. Unless you want the TCe 160 of course.
Im visiting France from the US and rented one of these for 2 weeks and fell in love with it wish we could get it in thr US

DAB is available on this car. We get Greatest Hits Surrey & East Hampshire on the car so I'd assume you can scan for local stations.

Is there more information about the electric tow bar? I've been told there is no factory fitted tow bar option.
Currently there is a supply issue on tow bars but that information is quite old so I've asked for an update from Renault UK. I hopefully should have an answer for you early next week.

Just like any other Renault, it will be lovely relaxing drive, until electric fault. And going by their record, there will be plenty of them at regular intervals.
As a previous renault owner I simply wouldn't buy one. I really hated my last renault ownership that much and the embarrassment of it throwing an electrical paddy whilst arriving in calais on the front of a cross channel ferry completely immobilising itself, had to be pushed off the ferry. I left it for the 2 weeks and hired a car. This was after a replacement gearbox, thermostat, aircon compressor in the first 10k miles of ownership
You almost sold it to me, but I really needed to know if you can use Apple and top speed. Basic information missing unfortunately.
You can use Apple CarPlay on the car. You'll see the icon for it at 6.50. The top speed of the car is 108 mph but I wouldn't reccomend more than 71mph otherwise cars with blue flashing lights tend to follow you.
Hi Great Tutorial, everything was explained well, Points I missed, t heated windscreens and rear-window, AWD, and Charging Times, is it possible to download a Brochure with specifications, etc. I don't understand why so cheap high-spec vehicle. were is the catch, how long is the warranty, most new cars now are offering a 7-10years warranty, Thanks again welshman2081
Thank you. In answer to your questions, there's no electrical heating elements in the windscreen, the car is FWD only, charging times isn't applicable as this is only available as a self charge hybrid. You can download a brochure from renault.co.uk with all the specifications. The warranty offered is 3 years but this can be extended for additional cost.

Had Iconic 3 weeks. Good concept that is terrible in practice. Car has many brilliant features, for example the lights are fantastic, as is the 4 wheel steer. BUT, all sorts of problems, engine revving it's nuts off for no reason, "gearbox" hunting for gears when cruising on the flat, lane departure taking control when it's not switched on (frightening). Even left me stuck in car park entrance, brakes jammed on because brake failure that cleared itself after 20 minutes. Car going in for checks, will keep you posted.

I drive cars for a living, many being high end cars or brand new BMW models and I've got to say driving this the other day has made me want it very much so. It is absolutely one of the top 3 cars I have driven whilst being at a much more affordable price it really is a great car.

No its a new generation of hybrid system fitted to the Austral.
I had an arkana, quickly got rid of. Horrendous transmission system. I now have the Austral top spec, so much better but I still love my 2.0 dci Koleos 4wd. Nothing beats this for comfort. It's like sitting in an armchair at home.

@crooshj9051 The sound system is very good, clear and great bass, as for paying the extra for the top spec, most definitely. The 4 control system at slow speeds and parking is really amazing. At faster speeds, you feel more confident with tight bends. The mid range Austral has the same driver aids as the top spec. I'm sure you know what extras you get with the top spec but this is what I have, wireless phone charging, 360 camera, 4CONTROL steering system, better rear suspension than the mid spec, glass sunroof and the upgraded sound system. If you have not had a test drive yet, see if you can have a test drive in both and then compare and decide what is best for you.
@@cornwallkev201 I appreciate your response. I haven't test driven the top trim, but i felt that the handling was quite decent on the mid trim. Going by how the 4C system is described, It must be significantly better though. The sound is also important to me, so I had to ask. The Arkamy's sound system isn't bad, but the extra punch & clarity is something I know I'd be thinking about when owning or leasing any new car, because I'm used to listening to an above average sound system. Thanks 👊🏾

Am I the only one who finds the Renault UK Brochure and Price List for this to be quite frankly the worst ever, most user unfriendly posted on the internet ? I cannot get the supposed separate specs PDF to open or download. It either does nothing or flags up a 404. Tried different browsers, allowing pop ups.

Bet ya the 'dealer learning guide' doesn't mention it.
Alternatively you could take out an extended warrenty. But if the Renault products are too complex for you then we have an alternative more simplier product called Dacia that may be more suitable for you.

Basically Nissan e power system with less power
No this isn't a rebadging exercise. The technologies are different. The e-power system doesn't connect the engine to the wheels where as the E-TECH system does. It's also worth pointing out the E-TECH is actually 10hp more powerful at 200hp compared to Nissans 190hp. Fuel economy is better on the Renault too with a WLTP figure of 60.1 mpg compared to Nissans 53.3.

The Austral gets 12" central display and Megane e-tech only gets 9" display. That is so ridiculous.

Another useless suv for me. Where is the boot space??? I have an Avantime and could fit that entire car in my boot without having to fold the rear bench.
That'll be because the Avantime was a D segment vehicle where as this is in the smaller C segment. But as I specified earlier in the video SUVs is what everyone wants so thats what Renault is giving them.
@@smcmotorgroup I’ve been looking to go electric and replace my Aventime for a good number of years now have seen to pretty much every manufacturer’s option in this segment and they’re all the same, rear space is laughable. Mine may be a category larger, but when they are side-by-side, they make my Aventime look small. The only option that size that makes sense to me is one of the options on the shared Kangoo platform including the incoming Mercedes T class
An electric model will come in the future and will offer size and space comparible to the Austral. If what you need is an electrified hybrid however the Austral is class leading. Its also worth baring in mind that manufacuters have had to follow ever more stringent safety tests that have evolved a lot since the Aventime was on sale meaning that the rear crash scructures have to be more robust which unfortuntatly does eat into boot space but even with that in mind the Austral has 45 litres more boot space at 555 litres compared to the Aventimes 510. In a size comparison the Aventime is 132mm longer, 9mm narrower and 8mm taller so both are very similar. The Kangoo electric unfortunatly will only come to the UK in a van configuration and the Mercedes EQT will have a starting price of £42,000est. If you wanted comparible spec to the Austral you'll be looking closer to £50,000. If however boot space is the be all and end all and you don't want to spend that kind of money then maybe consider the Dacia Jogger. As a hybrid it would cost almost half that of the Mercedes and give you 699 litres as a 5 seater. Fold the seats down and that then becomes 1807. Hopefully this answers some of the concerns you have.
@@smcmotorgroup I just realised what I failed to mention is I'm a wheelchair user, the Avantime was my third Renault after my much loved Laguna and original scenic. The Isoflex seating in the scenic was magnificent and allowed a plethora of connotations of me, family, wheelchair, accessories and more. When it came to replace it my dealer had an X demonstrator V6 Avantime or a new scenic at the same price… As you know, the Avantime is and always will be a beautiful machine and I just had to have it. It's a shame the current Renault lineup no longer has Isoflex seating… Did they sell the rights to Skoda? As the Karoq has them and it is a strong contender. Unfortunately, whatever I finally opt for will be my last driver as I become less and less physically able to do so. But 21 years with this glorious Renault has been an absolute joy, and I am quite big on brand loyalty.
