@lorannamoody7011 i have a two bedroom rental in a questionable neighborhood that just appraised for $450k. That's a northern California price not So Cal where it would easily go for over $500k
I moved to Coffeyville Kansas two years ago after the death of my husband from Covid. It has 8,000 super nice people, lots of parks, and an active library and senior citizen center. My rent for a two bedroom one bath home with a fenced yard is $700 a month. If I wanted to buy homes start at about $40K. Tulsa Oklahoma or Joplin Missouri are both a little over an hour drive away. Retirement income is not taxed in Kansas. I am totally loving it here!
@@trudymeans3520 That’s what my rent was in San Francisco in 1985. One bedroom lower floor. Kitchen 4 feet against on wall, small pink fridge bought used in 1961.
@lorannamoody7011 I had a studio apartment in Washington DC in 1985 for this amount. I loved being a city girl but I'm also loving being a small town old lady. Lol
I retired in a small town in Ohio last year-couldn't be happier! The slower pace and tight-knit community make all the difference. Highly recommend small-town life!
Bozeman is insanely expensive. Real estate is unaffordable and groceries are not cheap. Nice place to visit…but I don’t think most could afford to live there. My son lives there and I am hoping he moves before I retire.
Pretty much all these small towns (or cities) look like winners. However, a major problem is that U.S. real estate, in general, is too stinking expensive! I can't justify trying to finance a house that's $400,000, a half million, or even more. And the fact is that MOST states don't tax S.S. income. The ones that do are obviously hungry for revenue, and should probably be avoided. I moved to a small college town in Mississippi over three years ago, and no regrets. Grocery shopping options are limited, beyond Kroger & WalMart. But there's plenty of live music, art, book stores, comedy improv, and a host of festivals throughout the year!
A correction is needed on the segment for Prescott AZ... MAJOR is misspelled as AMJOR. Otherwise, full of good information for picking a great place to retire. I would also like to see a video on great places to buy land in rural areas.
It seems that agencies and organizations like A Place for Mom are only for unhealthy upper middleclass and rich retirees capable of giving $2000-$5000 per month. Affordable quality, safe, clean non isolated housing is either nonexistent or no org is assisting with identifying this necessity. Retirees should not have to uproot themselves and move to new states to afford to retire. Not to mention the gotcha factor of moving to a place you don't know that promises this and that but the reality is much different; they just want retiree money especially Real Estate dollars by buying a house that is unsellable if you should become dissatisfied. NC: Hendersonville, Asheville and I assume everywhere NC is not a good option; after 10 years helping a senior relative here, I have decided to not retire here bc the Children of the Corn culture is creepy and freightening.
We live and are retired outside of Vandalia IL!!!! We live very comfortable on an acre of land, 2000 sq ft house with a 900 sq ft garage and a 300 sq ft shed also! We brought exactly 2 yrs ago and my mortgage payment is just shy of 1100 bucks!!!!!
Nice for couples but what about singles actually living on social security.

Older people need to be near medical facilities, specialists and hospitals and other emenities. Who wants to drive a long ways to get where you have to go?
Not nice in Prescott!!!!!! IT is too close to the nuclear plant. So, the air drift, when they are legally allowed to release radiation into the air, so it isn't where I'd move to.
I think you are taking some things for granted... like politics. If we have to move somewhere that is All In on the upcoming Chief Executive, I'm not going! I wouldn't if the population is All In on the outgoing Chief Executive! So if living in any of these places involves talking politics, other than "Vote The Arrogant Bas___t_rds Out".... I'm pretty sure we wouldn't be welcome.
None of these videos ever addresses politics and I've learned the hard way how much it matters. Looking to get as far out of Florida as possible, but it's so cheap here, unlikely able to find another place in the country.
@@annjames1837 The opposite is happening, too. Also, the people moving from some of those blue states to red states are simply moving from places that have been so popular for so many decades that the housing is just too expensive. TX housing is already climbing quickly. Between that and the horrible climate getting worse every minute, people will be moving along before you know it...
The world has gone crazy. $435,000 for a home is insane. It was not that long ago that the average price for a home was $200,000
@@CupcakeCottage Governments’ policies!
@CupcakeCottage in California that would buy you a older home in a bad neighborhood.

@ we lived in a 1972 row house down the Peninsula. We came back to Midwest. They sold that sucker for 1.4 million. It’s ??

@ yeah me too. I loved living in a sketchy neighborhood and working there. But now I’m small town
There's no mention of hospital here, a place that retirees will need sooner or later.

Whew! I always check these type videos to make sure my tiny town is not on their list.
All beautiful places but please have a top ten with more affordable homes for the average folks.
I’m curious if anyone considering retirement in the immediate future would actually consider a location with such harsh, cold winters.
Way out of budget for the average retire
Good healthcare is a priority. Check that before you move.
Whose kidding. Homes over $300K.
The retirees I know can't afford this.
Some of these places are not realistic. Most retirees cannot afford high priced homes let alone the maintenance and upkeep on them.
Playground for the well off. Who is this man? He is out of touch with the seniors that I know.
138 miles is a short drive? Also, Bozeman, MT is very cold in the winter.

What is the name of your city in MS?
You need to add health care and medical facilities to the list. Great job and variety of locations. Thanks
LOL. IF you are moving from NYC, these are a bargain. Otherwise... not so much.

Thanks for the heads-up. Good idea about rural land!

Yeah, Bozeman shouldn’t be on this list, unless you’re already a millionaire with lots of money.
Median home price in Bozeman is $895,000
wow, hardly affordable
Oh that's a steal if you're from cali
MT taxes Social Security.
Thank you for sharing! I’m interested in knowing more about the monthly grocery bill?
Is that $$ feeding one, a couple or a family of four, please?
Depends, typically average retiee couples diet
@@RetirementLifeUSA Food prices are high all over esp. dairy and meats.

Who do you work for? Check US income for retirees…if you can read.
Blue hole has been negatively affected too by the drought
Someone should do a compilation of towns with zero capital gains....
Good idea
Georgetown is not that great at all- lots of tourists round that courthouse and still the business there failing

Look at the political climate. Would never set foot in a radicalized blue state. Hell on earth
