Greetings from the US. I stumbled across your TH-cam channel and it brings a smile. I purchased a 1985 11' Gull just a week ago and am getting set to launch it in Lake Huron. I am a beginner and love that you are also. I, too, wonder... "Will my boat float?" Thanks for sharing the bits and pieces of your sailing experiences.

It’s very interesting to follow your experiences learning to sail. I learned to sail in Wayfarers in Salcombe in the early 90’s. The best of times! I am now looking to buy one but there are very few here in my part of Norway. Good luck and don’t give up : )

A wise decision. Much better to go out when there are others around to help should things go wrong. My club mandates that there is a safety boat on the lake before anyone goes sailing.

    Hi there from Spain!
We are a father and a son (46 and 6 y/o) in the same situation as yours!
We own a small sailboat 4 meters long with the same rigging as your wayfarer. We have never gone out with sails yet, only with a small 5hp outboard to get used to navigating.
Our boat is a Pastinaca sailboat (if you Google "pastinaca sailboat" there are plenty of pics, it was quite popular here in Spain some time ago) basically it's the family/ sailing school version of your wayfarer because it has enclosed seats and hatch so that it becomes virtually unsinkable. It's a bit heavier and thus slower but perfect to learn.
I took some sailing lessons some years ago and they say it's a good idea to start sailing just with the main and once you get the hang of it you can also put the jib, just saying... That's what we are going to do next weekend for the first time!!
We are so eager to see your progress sailing and learning from your mistakes and successes!
We will keep on looking for the good medicine along with you!
Congratulations for your channel and thanks for all the effort editing and uploading, we really appreciate it!

      Hello from England!
Thank you for your lovely message, we really appreciate it. It is great to hear from others on a similar journey, and how wonderful to go sailing with your 6yr old son, we hope you have a great time this weekend - very exciting!!
Brilliant idea to just use the main sail first, thanks for sharing and for supporting our new channel! 🙏
