Don't despair guys! My first day sailing alone was pretty much like yours (doing 720s are more common than I thought apparently) only I picked a day with a bit more chaotic wind gusts (it had to be that day so I had to cope with the weather). Although the wind you had didn't seem like a calm breeze precisely... I think the best day for a first time sailing it's probably a day which veterans wouldn't pick because it would be boring for them... Like a "slow motion windy day" and pardon my rusty English... Also I find tremendously uncomfortable having people watching my clumsy newbie manouvers which adds up to get nervous and make even more mistakes and clumsy things... So I really admire your boldness and bravery for even filming the process (I wouldn't be comfortable enough to dare to).
So congratulations for your determination and endurance! And next sail will be better no doubt!

Thank you for your encouraging words! We wish we could write Spanish as well as you write English!!! 👌
We tried your suggestion and we kept the jib down, it did help for the first sail 👍
Hopefully you managed to get on the water too! Thanks again.

Well done. I'm sure you have improved since then. We all had to start somewhere and even the best still make mistakes.

@@DanandRow After a big gap of 20+ years I was given a boat, I took the kids for a sail and we got stuck about a mile from the club house. Felt very embarrassed to be rescued after being out for 4 hours, but we took a refresher course and the club members have helped us move on to not bad sailors. Learning is being able to cock up and learn from that.

Just stumbled across you channel 10/10 for giving it a go! Get as much help from the club as you can!

Thank you! You are absolutely right, the members have been so helpful, we were just saying the other day how much we are learning from them, it’s been invaluable so far!

Learn to sail a dinghy and you’ll be able to sail any yacht (within reason!)

Hmmm.... sailing a yacht is far more complex. Same basic principles but so much more to think about and learn. If you want to progress to a yacht, then do an RYA Competent Crew and/or Day Skipper course.

@@peterwoodford2376 I think you're right re the extra elements you need to learn and the RYA seems to be the way forward. The concepts are the same though and very much more 'seat of the pants'. This is a good channel isn't it? I'll learn a lot watching this.

Really loved this - thanks for going to the effort of fliming and editing it! I've just been signed off today with my RYA Start Sailing Level 1 and I did this final lesson on a Wayfarer. Way way bigger than the little Topper Topaz I started with! Dragging it back onto the 'beach' of Croft Farm Warer Park (Tewkesbury) took three of us.... If I bought a boat it would be something much smaller - like a Mirror. Can you do an episode where you sail a Mirror for us?
    Thanks again. Liked, Subscribed!

      Congratulations!!
We had to get the Wayfarer up a steep slipway this evening so we totally get it! 😅
Thank you for liking, subscribing and commenting, it’s much appreciated!
We plan on trying out lots of different boats and a mirror is definitely on the list!
      Happy Sailing ⛵️

You have a great boat to learn on and that nice little lake should be a safe place to gain experiences. You’ll get it soon enough.
