Not just any women: women who know the mythology and folklore that the writers are drawing from. It makes a huge difference in my appreciation for what the show is doing.

Lesley confirmed in the interview that he wasn’t manipulating so you guys were right on the money. She also said a basis was Lo and Jen from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and being equal and vulnerable and so if they aren’t totally equal now I am guessing they will be after Osha experiences whatever she needs to with the helmet and her past.

According to Lesley, she originally had Qimir quote Dracula “I have crossed oceans of time to find you.” While really romantic, I thought it was a little off for someone so young. If he were a lot older than he seems, that line would REALLY make sense.

I really appreciate the depth of knowledge and thought you both bring to this. It's so refreshing and each video I watch gives me something new to think about with my interpretation. And it's just lovely to find pockets of positivity in this fandom. So excited for the next two episodes of The Acolyte and to continue listening to this show!

This pod was awesome as always especially with MC travelling right now. This episode was SO MUCH SYMBOLISM. I loved all the discussion on the chalice and blade. So much stuff I hadn’t even noticed!

    Bright Suns MC, enjoy !!!
Not until listening to you two did it occur to me the other parallel to Yoda in ESB beyond the “only what you take w/ you” w/ the offer of food also being a call back to:
“Take you to him I will. Yes, yes, but now we must eat. Come. Good food. Come.”
& of course Yoda also offer a stew of sorts.
What I found interesting about Vern’s situation was how adamant she was in ep4 that dispatching Master Holden to intercept Kelnacca before Mae can, would be routine. So (along w/ the “do we have something she wants” line) she was either wilfully disregarding the chance of conflict or she is already suffering from the blind spots the TMP council & particular KAM were.
Similarly I don’t do much think Mog is sus, just arrogant/secure in his sense that the Jedi cannot be challenged.
Re the mask trading on our knowledge of Vader, this is the 2nd reference linking Osha to Vader w/ the door of Oshie’s room that was lit ablaze being designed in the form of Vader’s helmet.
“Let’s talk about Lightsabers in SW … phallic when ‘turned on’ “ 😳😂
You’re the first channel I listen to after eps that has bothered to acknowledge that Skura are afraid of ppl on this dark side inhabited world. Given the similarities to Ahch-To a parallel can then also be drawn to the Porg comfort w/ the other inhabitants of the island (aside from the actions of certain Wookie of course).
Re the eclipses, for a while there I was thinking that the O’s in the logo were getting further apart w/ each ep but I’m thinking it’s just a skewed perception due to the movement in the ep logo 🤷‍♂️
After “Night” a U📺er posted a short announcing their consternation over their perception of Mae’s “constant flip flopping”. My response was she has only ever been surviving. Then I come to WFT? to find out WHY I understand that she’s surviving 💕.

I'm interested to know more about the difference between power through training and discipline and this more innate form of power and the narrative implications. I'm more familiar with the former because it's the cornerstone that shonen anime (and boys media more generally) is built on for the most part. It's also what I tend to default to in my own storytelling. Is one better than the other or are they just different?

    • @WhatTheForce
      @WhatTheForce  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

@@NinjaxPrime the difference in “Training” and discovering power that has been there the whole time is the crux of fem / masc Lens which even Joseph Campbell talks about. I think we will see it apply to Osha esp as she enters her Hero arc. JC talks about the masc hero’s journey as needing to travel and fight monsters to earn your power - where was fem stories they need to realize they are the goddess the whole time. This is much of the underworld into the goddess initiation that Maureen Murdock’s Heroine’s journey. In truth everyone under patriarchy goes through both journeys individuation and integration it is an ebb and flow through experience.
There is an aspect of fem power fantasy which aligns to the revealing goddess motif Campbell and Murdock talk about.
What’s cool about #TheAcolyte is that it tells us there is an alternative (it involves connecting to our emotions which we might dance closer to the darkside)
In a non-patriarchal culture this isn’t a concern, emotions are part of us - only in patriarchy are emotions removed. Except anger and violence.
Both the Jedi and the Sith are patriarchies. I think we are explore the Wild Woman archetype and the exploration of power without patriarchy concerns.
This is important which you get more fem lens story telling you will have more goddess reveal stories - like sailor moon.

Theory: I feel like Oshamir is headed toward the same conflict like Anidala in ROTS and Reylo in TLJ - choosing the dark side (power) over your loved one.

@@theresmueller9243 me a serial redemptionist think anyone can be redeemed - I don’t think it’s where they are going yet, I also don’t think they are going to death as an end. If he does die it would be temporarily as an act of transformation.
