  • Everything you need to know for prepping a motorcycle fuel system and upper engine for seasonal storage. Brian shows how to treat the tank fuel with Sea Foam, then run the engine to work the treatment through the fuel system. From there he shows how to fog the intake and cylinder cavities with Sea Foam Spray. Super fast and easy to do! #SeaFoamWorks

I've used Seafoam for many years now and it works great for winter storage. I use it on all my engines, lawn tractor and lawn mower, chainsaw, wood splitter and motorcycles. When I start them in the spring, they start up like they should, without any hesitation. You just have to put in the prescribed amount (per instruction on the can) and run the engine until it gets thru the system, before you shut it down. Then top off the fuel tank and your good to go. Since I started using it on my motorcycles and other engines, I've never had to tune the engines or do any carb cleaning, ever. My old '96 Honda Shadow has never been re-tuned in the 21 years I rode it and it still runs like new. I've only changed spark plugs on it and the old ones were still like new yet, so I kept them as spares. Seafoam is the answer as far as I'm concerned.

Instruction say to add 1 oz per gallon. I have a 4 gallon tank. Are you saying to fill up the tank and add the 4 oz after? Or should I add the 4 oz on a low tank, run it thru the system, and then fill it up?

    • @PainterD54

@@lyingliar No don't add the Seafoam to a full tank of gas. Add the Seafoam before you fill your tank at the station. I add Seafoam and ride my bike home (about a mile) and it's thru the system by the time I get home. I shut it down and store it for the winter that way. It always starts in the spring just fine.

Shot off valve gas line and run it till turns off. With full tank store the bike through MN’s miserable, and long winter. I have been lucky I guess and have had no problems at all. However, I’d like to foam it this time. Should I put the sea foam right now on that full tank of “old” gas(treat the gas and clean engine??)?. Or should I run it until is almost empty, freshen up gas, and then apply the foam?

So I just bought a used bike and I noticed a lot of indicators that it might have been poorly maintained. The throttle response is good once everything gets running but it often struggles to start without choking for long periods of time. Does it sound like a fuel system problem? Do you think this might improve on that issue?

    • @SeaFoamOfficial

2 things: 1) Check or replace the fuel filter. 2) Add a high concentration of Sea Foam or High Mileage in the fuel tank and operate as normal. Better to add a fuel can when tank fuel is low to max the concentration. Sea Foam will work to reliquefy any suspended fuel gum and varnish residues that can restrict carburetor circuits, jets in particular. Hope this helps!

@@broodaiamdewey622 if its a Harley, skip the valves, it probably has hydraulic pushrods, change the plugs if you haven't, would be pretty rare to have a bent pushrod, but that effects the valve timing and causes hard start, bent pushrods happen from over reving the engine a lot, the valves and pistons can bang together bending the pushrod in the process, a bent pushrod effects starting in all engine temps, I dont know your mileage but a compression test may be in order, or even more likely you could have a floating valve (gunked up in valve guide and sticking, when hot, the gunk is more pliable and melts a bit helping valve move so it can "seat" into place, repeated tankfulls of seafoam as well as spraying seafoam directly onto the valves themelves can help clear this up) but definitely replace plugs and set gap correctly if you haven't. I bought a sportster off a guy who was tired of having starting issues amd I bought new NGK iridium plugs and that fixed the issue immediately.

We borescope a lot of beautiful newer outboards, motorcycles, and snowmobiles and notice that most people don't treat the engine's cylinder cavities - the cylinder walls show the engine's age based on how many rust line marks are left by corrosion of the outer edges of the compression rings.

@@jeanettedonato1767 Hi Jeanette: My previous post explains seeing smoke if you add a high concentration to fuel. However, I cannot explain the white smoke you noticed after adding to oil. A crankcase is not part of what comes out the tailpipe. Tailpipes emit burned fuel & air combustion and water, not what circulates in a closed oil crankcase.

@@SeaFoamOfficial OK Make sure I have this right. "Smoke happens when you pour directly into top-end". Exactly how do you do that? Spark Plugs? "Seeing vapor has little to do with adding to fuel". Then why is Brian's bike smoking after he added it to fuel (low fuel). I'm not confusing adding to oil versus adding to gas. Your bottle says you can add to both. I regularly use SeaFoam if not using non-ethanol gas but I also poured a small amount into the crankcase. I saw white smoke which didn't last long but was a surprise. Please respond. Thank you.

@@jeanettedonato1767 When you spray Sea Foam Spray directly into the air intake (throttle body or carburetor throat) while the engine is running at elevated RPM (2,000 RPM), you will likely notice a vapor emission from the tailpipe. [There are videos on TH-cam showing people pouring Sea Foam into vacuum lines that feed straight Sea Foam directly to intake areas, something we do NOT endorse.] The "top end" is the upper engine where fuel and air mix to ignite. If you ran a very high concentration of Sea Foam in your fuel you might notice smoke. In the video a full can was added to about a quart of gasoline in the tank - that's a high concentration that will emit vapor. Hope this helps!
