    There have always been warnings against using talc on babies. Now, talc has been shown to increase women’s chance of ovarian cancer. As a last-ditch substitute for HD powder, I have actually used a light application of corn starch, which is recommended as a substitute for talc.

    Powders aren’t boring! Thus this video is awesome for me. I’ve been on a search for the last few months to find a powder without talc that will set my undereyes without emphasising my little lines, making me look 55 by being crepey and doesn’t dry me out. Talc is so common, but so very drying so I’m doing my best to avoid it. The current leader amongst the ones I’ve tested is the tarte filtered light setting powder or the smashbox halo hydrating powder (has some coverage, but not so much that I can’t use it as a setting powder).

    Makeup Revolution Vivid Baked Highlighter in Matte Lights makes a beautiful glowy finishing powder for porcelain skin. The texture is similar to the Hourglass powders and a fraction of the price. The downside is it might cause flashback, because it has a slight white tint to it. It is perfect for when I want to set a glowy foundation to add longevity, but don't want to diminish the shine. I get compliments every time i use it.

      Kristy Kelly the peach/pink color does not show up at all on the face or in a swatch. It is def a white base only. There is super fine shimmer like the Hourglass powders that makes your face look radiant. I would only use it as a finishing powder. It is not suited for setting the whole face with a lot of product. I like to dip my damp beauty sponge in the powder and lightly tap all over the face with a really glowy base. With matte foundation, I would use a large fluffy brush.

    Nude by nature mineral veil is beautiful to use. They also have powder foundations but I find those too drying on my very dry skin patches. My sister uses their powder and she has oily skin and prefers it over their liquid foundations.
    Benecos mattifying powder (pressed) is also not bad.
    EcoMinerals have some nice powders as well.
    Inika Organics have powder foundations that are not drying on dry skin.

    • @iamqueenkk
      @iamqueenkk 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Raelene Prislan - thanks for these recommendations. I’m very dry, so much so that I’ve stopped powdering most of my face, I only set my undereyes and t-zone in summer and only the undereyes in winter. I’ve been testing a few powders recently to find the right fit. The best one so far has been the tarte filtered light setting powder. It was launched as part of their rainforest of the sea line and has hydrating ingredients in it. It doesn’t emphasise my fine lines, doesn’t make me crepey and doesn’t turn my undereyes funny colours (unlike the cover FX)

    • @crazyaussiepagan6220
      @crazyaussiepagan6220 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@iamqueenkk i like nude by nature mineral veil the best for setting foundation or Bb cream. Even to set my 3W Clinic 50+ CC sunscreen (which I use when I don't wear any foundation or as a base under my foundation sometimes.).
      Inika foundation powders are very nice on dry skin, but their liquid foundation with hyaluronic acid is great over their primer. As far as I know all of their face products, even their makeup removers have hyaluronic acid in them.
      Nude by nature liquid foundations are nice for dry skin as well. There are only 2 types, the original one is light to medium coverage while the other is medium to full coverage. Both work well with their primer.

    I haven’t tried the hourglass veil translucent powder but everyone is raving over it. Seems similar to laura mercier’s mineral powder in 1w1 soft porcelain. They both have a slight yellow tint to it and leaves a satin/slight glow finish ☺️ I think you might enjoy either of those powders 😊

    The only powders that I use from your list are the Lancome and Hourglass. But I seriously cannot rave enough to everyone about Laura Mercier's powders! I absolutely love all of her powders and she has quite a few. An invisible (white) setting powder that has blurring effects, a translucent setting powder (love with a velour puff), and two under eye setting powders that work amazing at setting concealer (secret blurring and secret brightening). I recently started using the translucent glow setting powder as a finishing powder to buff my cheek products, and I love it. I also love Bobbi Brown's nude finish illuminating powder (porcelain), and you can't go wrong with powders by Estee Lauder.

      I bought it two weeks ago in 1 Fair and it looked beautiful on my NW10 skintone. It was a touch dark and more yellow than I would prefer but, because it looked so amazing on my skin, I made it work. Unfortunately, this broke me out terribly. I'm so disappointed because it really did give an airbrushed look and I have dry skin so this was one of the first powders that worked for me. I do have very sensitive skin so if you don't, I would highly recommend it.

    I've been meaning to get the Shaaanxo highlighter and a few other items brushes, lashes lipstick that add up and Canadian shipping is a little out of control. I love my Hourglass I use the Ethereal Light one, as for a coloured powder being how cool I am I like the Too Faced Peach Powder other then it's a beautiful powder that smells like peach juice and tastes like candy's. As for translucent the NYC loose setting powder is $4 and I like it better then the Laura Mercier.

    Something I have wondered is what the benefit of a loose powder is over a pressed powder? I like that pressed powders are less of a hassle, less bulky, but is there something loose powders are better at than pressed? I mostly avoid powders anyways because I'm afraid it will look too dry on my dry skin. Great video as always, please do a tutorial on this look!!

    • @ArnaAlayneMorton
      @ArnaAlayneMorton  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think loose powder is easier to get a lot of it, so for those that want to puff it on or bake, its waaaaay easier in loose form! I do prefer compact though because of what you said (although some of my favourites as you can tell just simple are not made in pressed!)

    • @NatalieValentina6
      @NatalieValentina6 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Generally, pressed powders contain additional fillers/binders, etc. so they can be pressed; which causes them to have a denser/thicker texture. Traditionally, pressed powders contain more pigment/coverage than translucent powders, as well. However, pressed translucent/transparent powders are more common now, & pressed sheer coverage and finishing powders are available. It really all depends on your usage & what you prefer. If all you want is the lightest veil to set tackiness or smooth/blur, you may prefer a loose translucent/transparent powder. But if you want a bit (or a lot) of extra coverage, or to carry powder w/you, you'll probably prefer pressed. Hope this helps!

      I have super dry skin and for powder I’m currently liking the tarte filtered light setting powder and the smashbox halo hydrating powder. They both have ingredients that are designed to help hydrate the skin. The smashbox is a mineral foundation but the coverage starts so light that I find it really easy to use as a setting powder. I also don’t set anything but my undereyes and T zone in summer and only my undereyes in winter. Setting the rest of my makeup with a spray and leaving out the powder was an amazing discovery for me and left my skin looking less dry, more skin-like and I’ve been really happy with it.

    • @amarayoung2458
      @amarayoung2458 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@iamqueenkk It's funny because I know that a lot of people won't set their face except for their undereyes because of the concealer, but for me its the other way around. I avoid setting my undereyes unless the concealer is very emollient because its the area that will look most dry with powder, whereas I can get away with setting the rest of my face which is somewhat less dry. Most of the time I try not to powder at all.

    I bought the hour glass diffused light upon your recommendation mainly because you said it has no shimmer etc. but I was shocked to find it has lots of what I would call micro glitter!
    My face looked like I sprinkled bits of glitter all over it!
    Is this how it’s supposed to look? Or I got a bad one or what’s going on 😰
    I got the mini size and emailed them to ask if it’s any different in formula than the original size and they said no!

      It should give you a little sheen, but not too much. Apply with a very light hand. Maybe try a different, less dense brush than what you are using now. Hope that helps 🙂

    • @ArnaAlayneMorton
      @ArnaAlayneMorton  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To me, Shimmer is different to glitter, so apologies if my description threw you off!! I meant that it doesn’t look glittery on my skin, but does leave a soft veil of sheen! Perhaps my lighting is different too! If you’re able to, can you swap it for Ethereal Light? That has much less sheen x

    • @shahendarashwan5958
      @shahendarashwan5958 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Arna Alayne
      I was hoping for a sheen, but sadly it looked like a matte powder with some micro silver glitter sprinkled not even a shimmer like the ones in a subtle highlighter.
      I even tried to remove the top layer to see if thats like a top coat of overspray or something! Does yours look any similar to what I’m describing?
      Unfortunately I can’t return it now as I am out of the country ☹️
      But thank u for the reply nonetheless 😘

    Your body is sunburnt so it may be a good time to go for a pink toned foundation that couldn't be your match for winter times instead of a yellow-fair foundation.

    • @ArnaAlayneMorton
      @ArnaAlayneMorton  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, I'm not sunburnt at all! My body naturally flushes a lot when I'm hot, and my apartment was quite hot this day. Also, the colour difference between my face and chest is warped when I use my ringlight to film because it throws a yellow cast (check out my videos in my bathroom and you'll see a better colour representation)

    I wish we could get Models Prefer products in the U.S. I've heard great things about their powders. There is a baked one that I heard of years ago at this point that was a dupe for either Mac or hourglass but couldn't get it. If anyone knows how someone in the US could buy them it would be appreciated.
    Ps. It was their Soft Touch powder! I remebered!
