The Amun-Ra is also my #1 choice. I'll never forget the scene in ep. 4 where the unidentified ship decelerating towards the Donnager reveals itself to be 4 baddest ass stealth warships. So far this is THE best implementation of stealth tech in any film or TV show. I absolutely love it.
What makes it work so well for me is that you look at it, and you know it's a stealth ship. There are no weird magical devices inside that turn your smooth, glowing ball of pure radar reflection invisible. The stealth factor of this ship comes from its exterior design
It’s not an implementation of stealth tech. The Anum-Ra would show up like I giant “I’m right here!” sign on thermal imaging. It’s generating MW to GW levels of energy. All that has to leave the ship as thermal radiation. The books make mention of temporarily offloading the heat to internal water and later jettisoning it, but there’s no way the levels of heat generated by the stealth ships could be hidden for longer than a matter of minutes- maybe several hours. It takes days to maneuver within a planet’s space. It takes months to years to maneuver between planets. Moreover, stealth would be broken the moment the ship uses weapons or uses thrusters. From the perspective of its enemies, they’d see a ship moving towards them for days and then maybe disappear from thermal for an hour, during which time it’d be unable to do anything. If they know the enemy knows of ships, they could just extrapolate the ship’s position based on its velocity before going dark and launch a missiles at it, then make a minor course correction to avoid ever coming within 10,000 km of the stealth ship.
Yeah those would have fit perfectly. Designed for fast in/exfil operations and minelaying etc. Also they look really nice and there are different classes around. The Point Blank- class looks like its right out of the Expanse universe but around the same size of a Donnager.
I Love the Normandy SR-2 from Mass Effect 3 because of its Interior layout, like the war room were you can see your fleets and allys throughout the war against the Reapers but I also love the Amun-Ra class and I'm absolutely behind you for the pros and cons of this awesome vessel. The Phantom is my favorite, followed by the Normandy, but I have to say that I also really like what they did with the Nebula Stealth Cruiser from FTL.
@@matthewday7565 Absolutely. It's in the top three for most frightening vessels in Star Trek along with the Borg Cube and Dominion Battleship. It's also by far the most beautiful (IMO of course).

A great episode, I especially liked the Normandy being mentioned, but something is missing. The Scimitar Class Reman Warbird - The Cloak is Perfect. Really not a stealth/spy vessel, but the perfect cloaking device alone should have rated a mention.
gphoenix51 The Scimitar's cloaking was perfect because it most likely had more than one cloaking device, which is implied to be the case by dialogue from "Star Trek: Nemesis". Also, the Scimitar was probably also equipped with the most advanced Romulan cloaking device(s) that Shinzon and his followers could get their hands on.
I love the Phantom because it's designed to be both a luxury vessel and a stealth combat vessel. You know, for when you get boarded and you're just like, "What do you want? This is clearly just a civilian yacht and I'm clearly just rich enough to afford blaster cannons, concussion missiles, torpedo launchers, and military-grade armor plating and shield generators. There's very obviously nothing suspicious about this ship or any of my heavily armed... passengers..."
I knew that the Expanse would be number one, you have impeccable taste. Still the most brutal stealth thingy I have ever read about is definitly Marco Inaros stealth "very large rock". That was a real nightmare weapon when you think about it...
The Gamillon subspace submarine from Space Battleship Yamato 2199 was a really good stealth ship. It hid in another dimension and could fire torpedoes at ships in realspace from there.
I agree, they are truly fascinating, they are like ghosts in space, waiting and watching you in the darkness and the cold of the void. I think we're still going to see some of that sneaky technology, probably on a Martian navy ship.
@@markmulder9845 it's more similar to the Normandy from Mass effect 1. It's not heavily-armed with weapons. it meant to go in scout the enemy forces and deploy a spec ops team and stop with what the enemies doing in that area.
I'm fully aware. I'm saying this as the ships he listed have higher combat abilities than a prowler. Other than that, prowlers are dedicated stealth craft that I believe should have been up here.
@@markmulder9845 yeah that's true but for the sr1 Normandy can someone show me the weapons for that. I always thought it was under arm for a frigate even a stealth frigate
because its stealth was a luxury afforded by the romulan star empire. plus the scimitar was overkill for a stealth ship and yet a dinky b'rel makes the list.
My favorite one is actually the MCRN ballistic platform in the Expanse. I just love its symmetric and very sleek design. Also judge from the world of the Expanse, I actually think the ballistic platform is more stealthy than the stealth frigate.
The battle of thoth station was extremely satisfying, especially when the Rocinante gets to lay into the stealth ship with a PDC broadside at point blank range.
My number one favorite stealth ship is Darth Maul's personal custom freighter: The Scimitar. I love it's sleek design and color schematics, the green engins and dark hull create a beautifull yet sinister aesthetic. And it's armament of 6 laser canons is nice too. Though the X-7OB Phantom is gorgeous too.
"Yeah, one of the most sophisticated ships we've seen on the show" Well let me add the single word "yet" to that sentence. There is some interesting stuff coming as the timeline of the expanse progresses. Overall really good picks. Just for Star Wars I'd definetly go with the clone wars stealth corvette. The submarine atmosphere of that thing is just unbeatable (great episode).
The Orion was actually just featured in the fanfic _Invincible_ by Darth Marrs. And honestly, more people should check out that fanfic in any case, it's an amazing blend of magic and sci-fi. If you're after the sci-fi bits, you do have to wait several chapters, but they're well into the Galactica crossover by now, and it's fraking awesome.
The GTF Pegasus from FreeSpace 2 should be an honourable mention. It's a single pilot stealth fighter that sports an incredibly slim front and side silhouette, it's hull is designed to deflect sensors signals from other ships and guided ordinance, it's extremely maneuverable and quick, it has enough armaments to defend itself handily and like the rest of the fighters and bombers of FreeSpace it has its own subspace/ftl drive so it can dip if its ever in over its head.
You forgot the Griffin from starcraft 2 who's captain is nova. It is designed to do covert operations also the crew is made up of dominion ghosts who are specifically designed humans to be sent on stealth missions. Maybe it's not worth a spot on the list but maybe an honourable mentions?
4:36 shower wit a module that can be pulled out to form a toilet. (Conserves space)(many camper vans use all in one bathrooms, where the toilet is in a side compartment of the shower.)
Anti missle missles make alot of sense for space ships, since they give you true 360 degree protection pretty easily with them. Sadly people think tracer fire looks cooler
Hi Daniel Today you make me lmao with "handy prefab coffin for 400 Federation officers" and "incendiary grenade". About the 4th ship, the sith stealth ship, I would pick the The Tempest from Mass Effect Andromeda.
The Tempest isn't really a fully minted stealth ship. Its an explorer ship, that happens to have some stealth features, thus it not included in this list
This is a great list. Ever since I saw the Orion class in Blood and Chrome I loved it. After doing some research on it, it became my favorite BSG ship. I think the Orion class proves one thing...it's not the size of the weapon but how you use it that matters. I also like how the designers used a sensor cloak over a visual cloak. Also I have received my stuff from the Sojourn fund raiser and couldn't be happier. Though our local post office decided to disregard the instructions of not bending it, at least they didn't fold it. As for the downloads I am unclear where to go for those. The last few emails I have received have been unreadable for some reason. I am currently searching for a good frame for the Letter of Mark, and am trying to decide on what the patch will go. The pin looks awesome and will be put onto my Con bag. I look forward to answering the questions I'm sure will come by having it there. Anyway thanks for all the hard work you guys do. Your content is informative and entertaining. BTW are you guys going start back on Twitch soon? I'm sure you all are super busy but the content there is missed.
That SW ship is gorgeous, if you look at the nose you can recognise the sr-71 spyplane, especially the black patch where the cockpit would have been. Sadly no toilet lol
Excellent list, but I think the Sahara-class Heavy Prowler from the Halo franchise deserves a shout out. Capable of cloaking and hiding from Covenant sensors. Serve as reconnaissance vessels which can covertly deploy strike teams and they serve as mine layers deploying nuclear mines capable of destroying smaller enemy ships or severely damaging capital ship shielding. They're pretty sweet looking too.
The original Battlestar Galactica's 2nd. Season Galactica: 1980's improve Vipers & Turbo Cycles we're equipped with stealth when they finally got here to Earth. Love that new edition. Stargate SG-1's puddle jumper. Babylon 5's Shadows ships and technomage ships, no love for DS9's USS Defiant.
I'd throw in a few extras: from the Honorverse, the Mesan Alignment's Shark- and Leonard Detweiler-class battleships (plus the virtually unarmed Ghost-class scout frigates): equipped with a Spider drive that rendered them virtually undetectable to the gravimetric sensors that formed the primary detection methods of their contemporaries, albeit at a fraction of the possible acceleration, and equipped with low-signature stealthed weapons pods for long-range strikes, they are excellent silent killers. Unfortunately, the hull configuration, and mass/cubage required by the Spider meant they were unable to mount conventional drives as well, nor to project the "sidewall" shields other navies used for protection, meaning they were slow and vulnerable... if something spotted them. From the Jenkinsverse, the Drunker On Turkeyer (no, seriously, that's what it's called): the personal flagship of Great Father Daar of the Gao, fitted with the very best in drives and capacitors for boisterous sub-light manoeuvring and frankly ridiculous FTL speeds, radar-absorbent stealth composite hull, a generous EWAR suite (they can't see you if you've blinded them), a shield designed to redirect virtually all of an attack's energy back at an attacker as a gamma-ray laser, or dump a ship's waste heat out through the same system in a directed stream away from enemies to reduce noticeable emissions. Add to that a large battery of railguns, missiles, lasers and potentially access to wormhole-delivered ordnance (via their alliance with Earth, although once the Dark Eye nanofact can be repurposed from the rebuilding of Gao, it's likely that capacity would be used to build up their own strategic weapons reserve), and it's one hell of a bruiser that'll likely only be seen if they want to be.
or if it does actually have engines, they are entirely inaccessible for maintenance and the empire just buys a new ship every time they start having engine trouble which sounds like a very empire thing to do
I don’t think Daniel describing things as being very cool will ever be lost on me:) but hey I’m here watching and commenting so that irony isn’t lost either:)
One of my favorite stealth designs, just from aesthetics perspective, is The Nesasio stealth cruiser from FTL: Faster Than Light, and its second variation, DA-SR 12.
My Theory for the B'Rel is that the Klingon Engineers left a lot of room for future upgrades and that they made the spaceframe so durable and versatile that the empire has never seen a reason to get rid of them. besides the Klingons really love their plucky little starships capable of bringing their enemies to their knees.
Looking at the interior of the phantom, I think it actually has a toilet. If you look next to the crew quarters, you can see locked door, just about the size of a toilet. Sure, there could be just about anything behind the door (minimap, or the picture of the interior layout don't display this room), but given their location, probable size of the room and the absence of a toilet anywhere else on the ship, I'd say it is safe to assume there is a toilet.
The Miranda may have been relegated to a support ship, but the Excelsior remained effective enough to match the Defiant, despite being nearly as old as the Miranda.

gphoenix51 The Scimitar's cloaking was perfect because it most likely had more than one cloaking device, which is implied to be the case by dialogue from "Star Trek: Nemesis". Also, the Scimitar was probably also equipped with the most advanced Romulan cloaking device(s) that Shinzon and his followers could get their hands on.
@@GarfieldofBorg All of that makes sense, I mean it had redundant everything pretty much. And it had the ability to partially drop its cloak.
Reminds me of a Nubian Yacht
Honorable mentions,. Halo's - Prowler Stealth Corvettes and, or ONI's "Stealth Cruiser'" - The UNSC Point of No Return.
@@chrissonofpear1384 I thought, I messed that class up. Correction made, thanks
All starships use the blackadder 2 toilet system.
You crap out of the window ( full ventilation and wide guttering below)
Andy Brooks hell yes!
I knew that the Expanse would be number one, you have impeccable taste. Still the most brutal stealth thingy I have ever read about is definitly Marco Inaros stealth "very large rock". That was a real nightmare weapon when you think about it...
Nice, posted 37 seconds ago.
Great video as always!
The Gamillon subspace submarine from Space Battleship Yamato 2199 was a really good stealth ship. It hid in another dimension and could fire torpedoes at ships in realspace from there.
I love the Amon Ra. It’s my favourite ship in the show and I’d love to see them come back in the next book somehow. Not likely but they’re cool
I agree, they are truly fascinating, they are like ghosts in space, waiting and watching you in the darkness and the cold of the void.
I think we're still going to see some of that sneaky technology, probably on a Martian navy ship.
I'm sad that the UNSC prowlers isn't in this but overall a good list
They are no better than The B'rel, probably
Prowlers have little to no combat ability. I'm saying that as a person who was also disappointed prowlers didnt show up
@@markmulder9845 it's more similar to the Normandy from Mass effect 1.
How did the Defiant not make this list?!
*nerd rage intensifies*
great video for real tho
because its stealth was a luxury afforded by the romulan star empire.
plus the scimitar was overkill for a stealth ship and yet a dinky b'rel makes the list.
It's not a dedicated stealth ship. He *specifically* says at the start that things that have stealth/a cloaking device as an add-on were excluded.
Amazing content. Keep up the great work!
If I had my choice of these...definitely the Phantom.
Good stuff, strangely interesting comfort food tech for sci fi people/ Scortt Burrell : Moon Called Triton
Hell yeah, the X-70B is my favorite from SWTOR. Long live the Sith Empire!
The Klingon Bird Of Prey is by far the best known of these 5 and on that alone should be #1.
I would have been very disappointed if the Normandy wasn't on this list. Glad to see that I wasn't. Great vid
Number 4 is my favorite even though I haven't played the games it's in and it's why Legends is awesome.
Have you thought about doing a top 5 video on your favorite infantry weapons or melee weapons in sci-fi?
Once i begun to watch i immediately figured out which will be the number one :)
Same here. But the Amun Ra is hard sci-fi stealth ship that is also cool to watch. It's also very intimidating.
Great video Spacedock!!!
10/10 agree.really glad normandy and amun-ra got in here
Speaking of the Puddle Jumper, Top 5 scout/shuttle craft?
Anti missle missles make alot of sense for space ships, since they give you true 360 degree protection pretty easily with them. Sadly people think tracer fire looks cooler
In defence of the Puddlejumper, it is built to observe primitive civilisations which would detect it by sight ....just felt i needed to defend it
The Phantom looks like something Frontier would come up with...
Oh please yes!
I would pay hard Euro to get an X-70B in Elite ^^
My girlfriend is the best stealth ship, one might say that she doesn't even exist!
No stealth system can beat the C.A.N.A.D.A stealth system
🤣
Nah, my motivation is better at staying hidden. Still haven't found it.
Feelsbadman.
Still don't know why people post these cringe incel jokes all over the internet. Since when does being pathetic automatically means funny?
Hi Daniel
Today you make me lmao with "handy prefab coffin for 400 Federation officers" and "incendiary grenade".
About the 4th ship, the sith stealth ship, I would pick the The Tempest from Mass Effect Andromeda.
The Tempest isn't really a fully minted stealth ship. Its an explorer ship, that happens to have some stealth features, thus it not included in this list
@@weldonwin Yeah yeah. But I didn't mention the tempest because of that, but because is similar to the sith stealth ship, with it's yacht look.
I was expecting to see the Strakha on here, but in retrospect, these five are way more awesome.
Wheres the UNSC prowler?
7:00: Kind of appropriate because tomorrow will be the 75th anniversary of D-Day
Stealth X, X -wing from Star Wars and ONI Prowler.
That SW ship is gorgeous, if you look at the nose you can recognise the sr-71 spyplane, especially the black patch where the cockpit would have been. Sadly no toilet lol
Others have said it, but the Oni Prowler has seen great use in deep recon and surprise attack missions.
Hmmm..the Star Wars ship looks like an incarnation of the SR-71 Blackbird .
Babylon 5's Shadows ships and technomage ships, no love for DS9's USS Defiant.
none of those were designed as stealth ships, especially the defiant as that was a combat vessel designed to fight the borg
Aside from no toilets, the phantom apparently doesn't have real engines, just lights stuck onto the back of the hull.
or if it does actually have engines, they are entirely inaccessible for maintenance and the empire just buys a new ship every time they start having engine trouble
which sounds like a very empire thing to do
I don’t think Daniel describing things as being very cool will ever be lost on me:) but hey I’m here watching and commenting so that irony isn’t lost either:)
The magic of refits and new technology.
I knew the amun-ra was first place when I saw the video title. And I knew it was there although I forgot you were involved with naming and background and stuff xD
