I live about 8 miles from the old BRR and actually looked at buying next door when I moved to Palm Beach, 13 years ago. We did walk some of his property back then and was talking with a realtor about buying the property if it was going to be broken up into smaller parcels. Reynolds still lives in the area but he has downsized properties several times in the past few years, it is a shame he could not live the lifestyle he worked so hard to create. He is a good guy at heart, just could not handle alcohol and it got the best of him. His support of actors and film people was above the norm and he gave his time freely to teach and help students, my son being one of them. We must not forget the great films and fun he brought all of us, will you ever forget his wickedly funny laugh or his exquisite harassment of Bufford T Justice?

It breaks my heart to see this. I grew up watching my cousin Burt's movies and even got to meet his parents once. The one time I was able to go to the ranch I only saw the house. Burt Sr. gave me some of the lemons from his tree. I remember him riding his golf cart to go get them with the Dalmatians following behind. It was a great day.

Actually a pretty deep commentary on how brief our lives are no matter who we are. While he was alive and paying for all of this, massive compound actually, it must have been humming with activity, but as soon as he wasn’t around to keep it alive either, it goes back to nature very quickly. Sad actually. Imagining how busy it all was, then all at once. Snap and gone.

A good friend of mine was a private duty nurse. She was hired by Burt Reynolds to care for his father and mother. Burt had round the clock private duty nurses care for both of his parents until they passed. There was a house on the property. But Burt did not live there it was for his parents. His mother passed away first and many years later his father. The parents health did not require them to need nurses, but basically caretakers. Burt spent a fortune taking excellent care of his parents for many years. Burt's father occupied himself for years driving around the property in a golf cart as an overseer. Other than the movie sound stages and on site sets, there was also a viable feed and tack store on site. After all the movie activity no longer took place there, I believe he continued to keep the property maintained for his father. He really took great care of his parents and I've never heard anyone give him any credit for that. It's a shame to see it so run down now.

Back in the mid 80's I lived in Jacksonville. Was living with my gf who just happened to work for the IRS at the Federal Building downtown. She worked in the Problem Resolution office, for those cases that the lower minions can't figure out. She got handed a new account to work on, was Burt Reynolds. IRS kept telling him he owed all these thousands of dollars and in the end, she found $16,000 in an account that was due him from years before and freed up some other funds that weren't refunded in the past. Burt would call her about 2 to 5 times a week, took her about 6 weeks to go through all his records and get the mess fixed. At the end, he invited us to his ranch for a week. She turned him down because it wouldn't look good on her. I told her she should have given him our home phone number and he could have invited me and I would have taken her with me, problem solved. Not long after that, we split up in '88 and I moved back to Indiana in 1990. Haven't seen or heard from her since.

I lived right behind the ranch for about 10 years. There were 3 treehouses at the back of the property, one for Dinah Shore, one for Sally Fields, and not sure about the other. I drove past them all the time. We had a ball when Smoky and the Bandit was filmed in Jupiter! We have pictures of us all with the Trans Am. He built the Burt Reynolds Dinner Theater and it drew loads of talent. There was a restaurant next door with a two way mirror between it and the rehearsal hall so patrons could watch them rehearse for the plays. I was the musical director's nanny and got to meet some of the talent. So much more I could say, but growing up in Jupiter was the absolute best!

This is so crazy to see. I was at the ranch several times just before the demise of Burt and Loni's big break-up. It wasn't in its heyday but it was still a great place. I remember the ball field and I would imagine everything was probably stripped and sold for whatever they could get. His divorce and trying to hang onto his son ate up a lot of money. It is a damn shame but thanks for posting.

Ole Burt, A Great Guy! Back when Burt was young, when he went to go see a girl at her house, The girls parents would make him come to the back door. Bert grew up in Rivera Beach, Fl. I've known Burt a long time. Back in the day of Smokey and the Bandit he use to own a Trans Am and use to drive it around Jupiter. Back in those days I was a younger man and I had a 1978 Camaro that I built to the hilt pushing about 675 hp still st. legal. I got behind Burt on Indian Town rd. and at the turnpike entrance he got on it racing me down Indian town rd. all the way to Pratt Whitney rd. I blew by him at around 145mph and he stopped and pulled over and we talked a while. He knew my Father well from the younger days, we have been in that town forever. Then I saw him on the intercostal going north past Kaydoes Bridge and the stoped there him and Domm and talked to my gal friend and me. I got to say that he had a dream and lived it well and I'm sure he still does. He was Always good to People that did not try to smother him!! Well God Bless Ya Burt, Hope to see ya again before ya go!!! Oh by the way The Farm was owned by Big Al Capone before Burt bought it, I know I use to run all over that place with a Swamp Buggy and Hunt...

I'm not positive... because it looks different now (of course) but I believe the red building first shown at 11:43 was the old BR Feed Store. Burt had to bring in hay and feed for his own horses and he realized he could save a ton on it if he brought it in by the semi trailer direct from the hay growers, cutting out the feed store middleman. He sold the surplus to the local community and for a time (5 years maybe, back in the mid/late 90's?) he had a fully operational, open to the public, 9-5 feed store on his property. It was a curious mix of legit traditional country feed store and old Florida tourism kitsch (think freeze-dried alligator heads and beach sand snowglobes) and BR movie memorabilia. The silhouette of the long gone staircase would have led to a hay storage platform above. There was another independently owned feed store immediately next door to the BR ranch that had been there first. Though the local horse people liked BR personally, and visiting his store was kind of a treat, the other feed store next door had the established clientele and a variety of hay and feed selection that Burt just couldn't compete with profitably, so he closed it after just a few years. Met him a couple of times. He was a nice guy. Unlike some celebrities who just own horses because they consider them to just be part of the standard trappings of wealth, he actually genuinely loved his horses. When he had his bankruptcy and had to auction off his dear favorites, he sobbed uncontrollably as they were loaded on the horse trailer and driven away. It broke him. RIP, Mr. Reynolds, you were a legend in your own time.

I used to live down the old shell rock road (Jupiter Farms Road) from the ranch and saw him drive by all the time. It was quite a remote area. Burt had quite a place and even had a store that sold horse tack. Now the road is paved and the area is quite developed with mini-farms. Last year I went exploring the area and it seems that the ranch is some kind of park. I also got to watch the filming of some scenes from Smokey and the Bandit 2 in beautiful scenic downtown Jupiter.

He did a lot for the Florida economy in the 80's and 90's, I remember him going to FSU and Uof Miami football games, he was 1/3 Clint Eastwood, 1/3 Dom Deloise , 1/3 Dean Martin, he made it ok for tough guys to be funny. Guys like Jason Statham, the Rock and Mel Gibson owe their Careers to guys like him who invented humorous action movies. I saw an interview with Dar Roberts who said that he owed his whole career to Burt, if you dont know who that is, look him up, he was just the best stuntman who ever lived and died in movies. University of Miami lost their football field to a hurricane back in the 80's and he let them practice there at that ranch while it was being repaired. (He put up a goal post too) he was an arrogant ass but he knew it, and made fun of himself for it. After seeing how he looked at Comic con, It makes me sad, he was my hero when most kids were into football players and superheroes. I wore a Trans Am shirt all throughout the early 80's because of him.

Phu Vet Burt did a lot of his own stunts, so that has a lot to do with how he looks now. A 'normal' guy of that age wouldn't look great, but add on years of getting knocked around, and this is what you are left with. His back is fried. But anyone that has ever met him has always said that he was a really personable guy. Property comes and goes, its just stuff. But Burts legacy will live on forever.

+Phu Vet It is SAD story what happened to Burt. By all accounts he was a cool mellow guy and got bitten by "the fucking accountants" I read as a young guy he looked like Marlon Brando and Burt agent tried to introduce him to Brando , BRando didnt even shake his hand , just gave a hmph .. like "fuck off" . Later that night Burt was DESTROYED at another restaurant and a famous female movie star sent him a note.... and they left together . So was he upset about Brando ? As he said "HELL NO I JUST FUCKED A MOVIE STAR!"
All around I think Burt was a MUCH better actor than Brando, all that 50's bunch was so fucking overrated James Dean, Brando, Cassavetes twats all of them. I wonder where Burt is actually living .

Reynolds was from the Area. He bought the Ranch, had horses. Jupiter Island and Tequesta are nicer, more exclusive than Palm Beach. They allowed no Entertainers, Perry Como, and Reynolds, were refused to be sold homes in the area. He Built a Theatre in Town , that was not successful, Was sold and didn't make a go of it. Davy Jones of the Monkees, owned a horse farm in the area, which is where he was when he died. He was buried somewhere up north, because of family ties to the area. I think somewhere in Pennsylvania. And in south Florida, the vegetation takes over very quickly.

This property was sold to the local school distri t in 1999 after Reynolds filed for bankruptcy. Reynolds never lived on the property so there is not a house. The grounds were used as a movie ranch and included a museum of Reynolds works, petting zoo, various sets and family mausoleum. It has since been sold and is being developed into a residential community.
