  • DAP Parliamentary Leader, YB Lim Kit Siang, talked about his experience during the May 13 incident and his first arrest under the ISA in 1969.
YB Lim Kit Siang was speaking at a special ceremony organised by Genta Media on 2/7/12 in Kuala Lumpur to launch the book "The Sweet Rebel: Remembering Fan Yew Teng" to commemorate the 1st anniversary of the passing of Fan Yew Teng, DAP Acting Secretary-General in the early 70s, and a social activist who touched many in his lifelong struggle for a Malaysian Malaysia.

On May 11th the opposition ie DAP & Gerakan (then in the opposition) motorcade went round KL & P J . At Kampung Kerunchi now Bangsar South the opposition motorcade stood for 1 hour tooting their horns and yelling at Kampung Kerunchi residents to balik kampung. DAP MP for Bangsar was leading the action in an open car. Won't they get mad.

Malaysia crisis was not based on racial discrimination nor religion, it is purely a pointing finger for the politicians to stand on one ground and manipulate the citizens. If an intellectual failed to see their future is draining away by their own government, he or she should be ashamed to his future generation. I believe in check and balance, having two coalition parties is a good way to oversee our own government, we citizen reserve the right of our government.

The purpose for history to be accurate, is so that future generations, our children, will never make the same mistakes we made. It's not to point fault at who did what to whom with what. It is so that mistakes do not repeat. May lives were lost and many were hurt. It was because we were not united, that May 13 happened. If I were to offer an option to choose between giving up my race and religion for unity among Malaysians, I would gladly give it up. Not because I don't appreciate my race or religion, is because I believe it's most important to be a good human first and foremost.

Pantang larang kerana ia bukan rusuhan kaum.
Taboo because it is not racial riot. It is religious riot and it involves Islam. The May riot started with the Mawlid Al-Nabi. Muslims felt insulted by non-muslims' disrespect of their prophet. And the entire malay community was dragged into it.
If today, buddha is insulted, the buddhists will not respond in a riot. If today Jesus is insulted, the christians will not respond in a riot. Yet when Muhammad(pbuh) is insulted muslims turn very violent. Why? If you insult a good man, your insults are meaningless and has no power. But if you insult a sinful man, your insults are extremely painful, and his follower will go crazy.

Sungguh baik cadangan tuan.

If Malaysian can't walk out from racial politics, we are doomed to fail. We don't really care who runs the country as long as it is an equal and clean government that free from corruptions. Do you really don't know what we need? We are perfectly fine and fully support with Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and let's not forget the Malaysia's First and Greatest Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman. Have you ever imagined if Tunku Abdul Rahman remained as PM? Don't raise the racial cards, it is not relevant.

We are not talking about individuals that cause the atmosphere of hatred ...
The cause of this tragic event was the result of the factors that led to the racial clashes.
    1. The demands for equal rights for all under the Malaysian Malaysia concept .. were too much for the Malays to accept ...that was what Tengku did to expel Singapore, but this concept was left behind ..to be carried on ... Devan Nair and others .
    2. The publication of the book Malay Dilemma. ..further added to the fear of the malays rights been eroded. ..for the non malays had great share in the commercial field besides the Europeans ...while the Malays were mainly in the civil.services and doing rural activities.
    3. So when the demands of the non malays through the opposition clashed with the fears of the malays as highlighted by those against the liberal approaches of Tengku ...the stage was set to ignite the fire ...
4.The opposition did not have plan B ..just too obsessed with the desire to have power and failure to see the feelings of others ....even to this day ...the arrogance remain

What is the benefit in that... dare I ask? Look at what they have achieve as a homogenic population..huh? pushing forward at snail pace towards 21st century and in some aspects rolling backwards towards the 19th century!
dude ..with all due respect.. what is the benefit in BM as the main language!
if you need a debate on this let me know..
My opinion would be same emphasis should be given to English and BM!

I never say one person! I said he was a key figure. Tepuk satu tangan tak akan berbunyi! He instigated by bringing in sensitive issues from 1964 to 1969. Victory celebration after election on 10th May 1969 calling for ouster of Malays provoked the Malays to retaliate and strike. Malays were also questioning why they were behind in all fields which also caused their anger.

People say Barisan is racist because it divides the ehtnic malays from the minorities such as the Chinese and Indian... In Singapore, can an ethnic malay like myself run for Prime minster-ship, especially under the PAP? Looking at their record, i doubt it. They have the gall to call Malaysia a dictatorship, and apartheid, yet they don't see that it's not only Malaysia who's adopted such a system... don't be fools... the world works like this... EVERYWHERE.

aimannorzahariwod If Malaysia do half as good as Singapore, I think no one even bother to complaint. The problem is that we do much worse, and many are struggling in living. If you're not, maybe you're a lucky one.Singapore moved from third world to first world long ago just like South Korea, while Malaysia is still in the same mist, a typical third world country with poor education system. They gather along the road and trying to beat innocents to death to backup thief! In front of policemen! They country is badly sick but the authorities do not seem to have any idea to fix it, by right they should be replaced long ago.

    • @jcliswong
      @jcliswong 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

+aimannorzahariwod Yes. An ethnic Malay can run for Prime Minister-ship. It's all by capability. Find a Malay who's more capable and more charismatic than Tharman Shanmugaratnam, then you can convince him to challenge Lee Hsien Loong in Singapore.
There are Malays in the Singapore military. Can that be said the same of Malaysia? The Malay Singaporeans compete equally with the Chinese and Indians for university places and jobs. Can that be said of Malaysia? Look at YOUR record. Yes, of course, I have the gall to call you an apartheid, 'cos you are one.
Look at the record of Najib Razak.
      Under his Premiership, there are
      1) political-related murders - Mongolian model Altantuya, AmBank founder Hussain Najadi, Deputy Public Prosecutor Kevin Morais
      2) 1MDB critics barred from leaving Malaysia - elected DAP MP Tony Pua, former UMNO man Khairuddin Abu Hassan and his lawyer Matthias Chang,
      3) Change of cabinet to demote those who questioned the 1MDB financial scandal, and
      4) attempt at racial riot at the recent September 16 Red-shirt Rally.
Look at which ethnic group suffers the most with the implementation of the 6% GST.
The type of system Malaysia adopts is exclusive to only Malaysia and North Korea. Don't be fools. It is UNIQUELY MALAYSIA. Malaysia Boleh!

Elisabeth Wong Interesting, you're calling Malaysia an Apartheid State when your closest ally Israel is commonly referred to as THE contemporary apartheid state. Racial divide is inevitible and a real issue. It's a common problem in EVERY single country. Only difference is individuals like yourself sensationalize the problem like it's on the level of genocide.
I've lived in Australia all my life, and as an immigrant, systematic racism is still a problem. It might not be as 'out there' as in Malaysia where race is at the forefront of every single issue, but that's the nature of ASEAN politics. Race-based politics is a 'norm' in that region, especially when you consider it's still in development.
Now, to your 4 out of nowehere points:
1)The record of Najib Razak, and his premiership? He wasn't a prime minister when Attantuya was slaughtered, just a defence minister (and no, i don't support his leadership)
2)1MDB Critics. Tony Pua's criticisms are based on unproven and unsubstantiated allegations. Yes, WSJ published those allegations, but that doesn't disprove the fact that it's still an allegation.
3)Cabinet restructuring occurs everytime, but that still doesn't make those allegations any truer.
      4) Red shirt rally was a response to yellow shirt rally. You're honestly going to ignore the racial connotations of those rallies? the MAJORITY of those attending the yellow-shirt rally were Chinese-malaysians.. so what's your point with this?
Can you at least provide some factual evidence on the 'GST affecting a specific ethnic group' claim
And to conclude... you're seriously going to compare North Korea to Malaysia? for real?.... come on, yes you can criticize the country's increasing racial problems, but to parallel it to a dictatorship like NK, you're making a fool of yourself.

May13? To us, nothing has happened on that day except that after that Emergency was declared because there were no racial unrest or rioting occurred at our place and just that rumours were spreading that the lorry loaded of Malay were killing the people in the street and then the army were shooting at people in the streets and those who opened their windows to see what in the streets. At our area in Pahang, nothing has happened and the people of all races were confused as no fighting or even quarrel has occurred. All these make me believe that all these were created to let the PM to declare emergency to hold on to the power without the need to change power as the government was losing the election. A Royal Commission of Inquiry must be taken to bring justice for those who were killed or harmed due to the incident which could be planned in order that those responsible be brought to justice for those who died can Rest In Peace.

The concept of Malaysians Malaysia is more relevant to Singapore as the slogan ...Singapore for Singaporeans because Singapore was Chinese having the majority and they controlled most of the commercial activities...so it is fair and correct that the minorities...the Malays and others have a fairer share of the society.
Here in Malaya ...the majority of the malays were less wel off and the Chinese had a better edge over the majority and the opposition wanted the majority to give up their advantages to the minority ...without having an idea what was given in exchange ....Is this something which will bring unhappiness...?
Maybe now a new social contract needs to be formulated where there is fairness to all sides ...the concept of a Malaysian Malaysia is a hollow slogan ...which cannot sell to others even up to now
