How a man risked his life to save his neighbours on May 13, 1969

- Foong Yee was a 24-year-old probationary police inspector when the May 13, 1969 riots broke out.
Fifty years on, his experience driving through the blazing and lawless streets of Kuala Lumpur remains fresh in his memory.
In his account below, he recalls how he managed to save his kin, evacuate his entire village, and rescue his Malay neighbours from being killed by Chinese secret society members.
Along the way, he experienced a brush with death when he drove into a group of army personnel by accident.
Seconds from death, he recalls feeling the muzzle of a gun on his temple.

I had to learn more about you and thank you for your long service in the RMP culminating in your role of Deputy Chief of Police for KL at the rank of Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police before your retirement.

What Foong said only 80% accurate. I was a victim(2 mths before 15yrs.) Stayed at Biscuit Factory N Village, 3 3/4miles, klang gate rd, setapak. At that time KL had 79% C, 11% I, 8% M n 2% others. If without the army behind, could they really challenged us. My school mates from Tiong Nam n Chow Kit, their fathers were the direct victims. Can't talk further otherwise will be in trouble.

Pada pilihanraya umum 1969, Parti Perikatan yang dianggotai oleh UMNO, MCA, dan MIC gagal memperolehi majoriti 2/3 di parlimen walaupun masih berjaya membentuk kerajaan persekutuan. Hal ini disifatkan oleh parti pembangkang sebagai satu kemenangan yang besar buat mereka. Jumlah kerusi yang dimenangi Parti Perikatan dalam Dewan Rakyat (Parlimen) telah menurun daripada 89 kerusi pada tahun 1964 kepada 66 kerusi pada tahun 1969.
GERAKAN, DAP, PPP dan PAS menang dalam Dewan Rakyat.
His story is better than any history book.
Stories like these need to preserved. We need a class in school to remind people of the importance of racial harmony in Malaysia.

Pemberontakkan PKM dipimpin Chin Peng disokong dan dianggotai etnik Cina Thsiland menganti etnik cina Malaysia yang telah meninggqlkan perjuangan PKM setelah mereka menerima kewarganegaraan Malaysia.
Sebaliknya pegawai pegawai PDRM dan SB yang beretnik Cina Malaysia memainkan peranan barisan hadapan menentang pemberontakkan komunis 1963.
Hari ini bekas anggota PKM yang tidak menyerah diri hidup di penempatqn kg komunis diselatan Thailand rata rata semuanya komunis berbangsa melayu dan satu india.
Takda cina sebab anggota etnik cina Thailand balik ke kg halaman mereka di thailand selepas PKM kalah.
