    I'm currently making a cardigan with 100% cashmere yarn, without the huge price tag! I found a slightly damaged cashmere sweater in the thrift store for $6 and unraveled it to harvest the yarn. Recycling and saving money, woo!

    I’ve knit 2 small scarfs in Cardiff Cashmere and they have both pilled like crazzzzy and the stitch definition is gone. I had color bleeding and shedding problems during the blocking process too. They’re definitely the softest knits I own but if I use it again, I would go with a stockinette project in a non-vibrant shade. The best price I’ve found to the US is ordering from Laine Et Tricot in France. Shipping isn’t bad and they have amazing prices on Sandnes Garn, Holst Garn, Knitting For Olive, and Cardiff.

    I love Cascade! 220. Sport. Eco wool. Heritage all the wools. Agree with viewer that couldnt wear Jameson. Love the colors but way too scratchy. Magpie wool cashmere is delightful. Sometimes i make shawls where just the edge that touches your neck is luxury and the rest is fun colored basics. Like the halo of mohair but it is over rated. Your sense of humor and touches of cinema fun are refreshing. Thanks for spending time with us!

    I love talking yarn!! I've been trying to use more american yarn too instead of lusting after scandi yarn, and my favorites are probably kelbourne woolens scout, juniper moon farm patagonia organic merino, and purl soho good wool for rustic-adjacent yarns. also a huge fan of knitpicks palette. also also, drops daisy is a good dupe for sandnes double sunday (I've tried both) and it doesn't pill excessively either - at least nothing a sweater shaver can't deal with. my least favorite has to be manchelopi LOL I couldn't deal with it breaking constantly and I thought it was very itchy next to skin.

    Hey! Not sure if anyone else commented about his already but it sounds like you're getting Sandnes Garn Double Merino and Peer Gynt mixed up. Double Merino is absolutely soft, it's not a superwash yarn so it's not gonna be as smooth as those yarns, but it's also far from feeling rustic like Peer Gynt.

    I recently bought Drops Brushed Alpaca from Linde Hobby in Denmark. Shipping to the US was only $4.99. The service was great and it only took 7 business days. Under $4/ skein. Their Drops yarn prices beat Wool Warehouse. Beware though, their website lists fiber content erroneously. You have to open each specific yarn to see the true description. I’d love to try Drops Daisy.

    I have that self patterning yarn from wool and the gang! I tried knitting with it a few years ago but I could not get it to work for me. You definitely have to match their gauge and follow the pattern that they provide. I do want to try it again sometime now that I have more sock experience but I’m reluctant since it didn’t work last time!

    Idk about Double Sunday, but Sunday is soft, not superwash merino level, but for me - person who finds everything itchy - it's not scratchy at all, even before blocking. But it annoys me with how stretchy it is. It acts like a bit like superwash wool and it's supposed to not be treated.

    With self stripping or self design you simply do a vanity 🧦. Basically stockinette. And there are general sizes for socks; small(56 stitches cast on) medium (64) and large 72. I will point out that you easily adjust how many stitches you cast on with a vanilla sock 60, 68, 74 etc. and casting on for socks are toe up or cuff down. I hope this helps.😊 love the videos ❤️🧶

    Mondim I would pass for using it as a sock yarn... it does felt over time and it kind-shrinks so if you do choose it, knit the foot a bit longer. My fav sock yarn is still patons kroy... any of the self-striping yarns by Lang or Regia are great too (and hold up to machine washing).

    i think double sunday is soft, i think it is actually merino, as opposed to the peer gynt is norwegian wool. i think the pilling on a sweater i made with double sunday speaks to its softness

    I used Mondim recently and an confirm it is spectacular. I used it to make a sweater - What Lydia Made's Tumble Tee but with longer sleeves. I LOVEED working with it, I'm definitely going to knit with it some more when I next have a project in mind - so would defo recommend if you find a local supplier!! It's woolly and lovely feeling but still soft enough to be worn quite close to the skin. And if you ever have the chance to be in Lisbon, Retrosaria Rosa Pomar is the biggest vibe!!!!

    I am currently making my first pair of socks from Mondim that I purchased at Black Mountain Yarn Shop, I highly recommend them!! Their listed shop phone number is actually a cellphone, so you can text them with questions and they can send you pictures if you want to compare color ways that they have in their shop! When I was there they were so lovely, they asked me to text them a picture of my finished pair of socks 🤣. As a side note, Black Mountain, NC was hit very hard by hurricane Helene, so if you purchase from them now you’ll also be supporting a local business impacted by that disaster. Definitely would recommend checking them out!

    I make a lot of socks. My fav. So lemme see if I can answer some of your questions. If it's self-striping, they'll give you the repeat length, but I use self striping for different sizes with no real issue: the larger the sock size, the thinner the stripe will get. If it's self-patterning, the gauge, size, etc. has to match the pattern guidelines. If you're looking for self-striping that will handle machine wash well, Cascade Heritage Prints and Schoppel Zauerball. I have a pair of Heritage Print that get very heavy wear and have never been hand washed, just machine. They've lasted like 5 or 6 ish years? before felting down too small, but then I just soaked them with hair conditioner, and they loosened enough for me to get more wear out of them. I have recently tried Patons self-striping recently, so I can't attest to how they manage with machine wash.
    Also I have made some color work socks that had the BOR going through the center of the sole. Carrying the yarn from row to row made a small twist that went up the sole. I have had no issues with that, and I can be very finicky about how socks feel.

    I like that mondim is good value for money. I made a Lento sweater using a strand of Mondim and a strand of alpaca silk, it's very good in a sweater use case. I remember Florence knit a pair of socks and reviewed later that they didn't last (she wears socks with her doc martens).

  • @Jennie8684
    @Jennie8684 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I bought 3 WATG pre-patterned sock kits. You need to use their specific sock pattern and tension for the socks to work. Unfortunately for me, the socks are way too wide and loose. I plan to knit my 2nd and 3rd pairs with my tighter gauge and fewer stitches and enjoy the abstract print so I can produce wearable socks.

  • @ellenowlin
    @ellenowlin 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    at my lys they have both sunday and double sunday and they’ve got sample sweaters knit up in both right next to each other, one with sunday held double and the other with one strand of double sunday and there is a definite difference in the softness with sunday held double being quite a bit softer than one strand of double sunday. but double sunday is still soft!! not scratchy or even rustic imo. just not as soft. would only matter to the most sensitive of people.

    Another fun episode. 😊 For me, accessories (other than socks, which I'm not fond of making) are a great way to try out yarns that I'm curious about without committing to a sweater quantity. Lately I've been on a kick making Musselburgh hats. It is the first hat pattern that I've used that really fits me properly, and it is a blank slate for color and designs. Currently working on my fifth one using Urth Yarns Uneek Sock, which I was curious about, and I'm loving it!

    Hi,what I like about Sandes Garn is their worsted weight . Many patterns I like call for a worsted weight yarn , but living in FL, that is not practical! The Sandes Garn although they say it is worsted, the feel of it is like a fingering, but the guage is on point. Go figure. There is a store in NJ that sells this yarn over here.(I think that is location on east coast). I would love to recycle a sweater from a thrift store but there are not around my area, (the sweaters). Expression Fiber ARts sells luxury yarns at a great price and the color and combos are marvelous.

    I love your NYC stitch markers. 🤣 Especially the rat! If you want some cool sock yarn with stripes of patterns, Opal is great! WYS sock yarn for me is really warm and nice to work with, but it tends to felt really easily (maybe just me?). Just with regular wear, the high friction points start to felt after like two wears for me, so even though the Christmas colorways are so good, I probably will avoid it. Also, I have a ball of the leopard sock yarn from Wool and the Gang? I think and you have to get a specific gauge to make it work. I tried it two times and personally, I coudn't get the pattern to come out.

    I highly recommend the Retrosaria yarns. I'm slowly working my way through them and am super happy. They are actually quite affordable, but shipping is a b*tch. However, if you are going to make an order with them, throw in some Wool Dreamers to the cart (they are the people who make Manchalopis) and are all sold via their webshop.

    I’m knitting a cardigan in Mondim and it’s turning out so so lovley! About the self-patterning sockyarn, I’ve only heard bad things haha apparently it’s difficult to get gauge and actually make the pattern. I would say it’s true about the softnes about the unspun (i’ve tried all tree). Nutiden is still a small buisness but I think it’s a bit easier to get colours now as long as you put a timer om the release day! As a swede I have to say that Sandnes is a good yarn even tho it is quite easy to get a hold off, same with Rauma. Both are norweigan really great old companies. Drops tho, is like going to Wallmart or something😅

    The Double Sunday should totally be fine for you! It isn't prickly, it's just not the super soft that some merinos can be - I knit toddler sweaters in it without any issues hahaha. And I know you don't like ordering online, but Mother Knitter carries (I believe) the entire Sandnes Garn line, and they ship from northern NJ, so super fast to the NYC metro area.
    And there's actually a ton of patterns on Rav which have Antigone as the suggested yarn: Linaceae by Tricot Design MCL is a cool scoop neck contiguous shoulder construction, and Pale Shelter by Vanessa Pelissa is a circular yoke but with nice side/back seam details. My personal favorite De Rerum yarns are actually the Albertine/Penelope which are the sport and DK weight versions of their worsted spun 90% merino/10% silk. They're round, nicely elastic, and super smooth, though I'm not aware of any NYC LYS which carry them.

      Yarn on cones have spinning oil on them so that explains the smell ; some brands have a stronger smell, but it's so worth it. Great price, excellent quality, minimal complaints. Coned yarns have to be scoured to really bloom so you can do this before or after you complete your project.

      @@futurefiber Ahhh 💯 very splitty! Helpful to work with metal and also going a little slow/working carefully. I found also using smaller needles helped keep everything neater because they are also very stretchy so the bigger the holes the more inconsistent your stitches might look. After like one wash in the laundry bag though, the pilling kind of stops. It's definitely finicky but it's affordable and super soft, so pros and cons definitely.

    feels so funny to realise that ''trendy internet knitting'' is so scandi centric, as being on the internet as a european most other things are very very US centric (flashback to 12yo me having to learn wth a twinkie was). doesn't the us have sheep too??? aren't you geographically a lot closer to some of those beautiful peruvian alpaca wools? would be great to see you try some of those altho I guess it might be a lil warm. also, RE: self striping yarn:: if it's a pattern like those animal prints then yes you need to use the included/suggested sock pattern which usually has a bit of a range but I find those to be a pain because I'm often just outside it (EUR41/42). normal self striping yarn like that 1st one is absolutely fine to just use whatever pattern you want, the stripes just get thinner/thicker, but you might consider doing a certain type of heel over another one depending on the effect you want on and after the heel. I find german shortrow heels look pretty good on most stripe yarns I've tried.
