My mom was was a taylor and tought me a lot of things and also took sewing in school and entered a Nationwide Singer Sewing Contest at 16. Started quilting in 2004 first quilt was a Harley Davidson T-shirt quilt made with several other woman but I did all the sewing and quilted it myself. I love challenges.

      I am a newbee quilter. I have three friends that quilt and they have been trying to get me into quilting for about three years now. I recently updated my 35 year old sewing machine to a Singer Quantum 9960 with a lot of bells and whistles. I am from Canada but I am in Florida until the end of March and have already gone to two quilts shows and another on schedule for next week. I have seen so many beautiful quilts and smaller projects. I am amazed. Once I get some experience I would consider this table topper. Thanks.

    I am confused about the size of the strip set versus using the different lines on the ruler. So, the very first cut doesn't matter, but every one after that has to be the size of the width of the strip set (6-1/2"?).

    • @ShabbyFabrics
      @ShabbyFabrics  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi littleluluscraps - Our sewing team answers this with, "Ruler instructions are: Wew six 1 1/2" fabric strips together to create a strip set that equals 6 1/2". The 1 1/2" will match the lines on the ruler. So, ALL cuts will be 1 1/2" " Hope this helps! -Michelle

    I do love your tutorials and projects, always nice to see how someone else does things. I do have a question though. You spend so much time making it perfect and yet you are using the Frixion pens for marking. Are you not worried about the long term effects of the ink. I know you state that it is "removed" by the heat of the iron but it is not really removed. The ink is formulated with a thermal property that allows it to disappear with heat but come back with cold. If you want to test it just throw a quilt in the freezer for a while. Since it was not formulated/designed for use with fabric we don't know how it will behave in the long term. I know some people have had quilts ruined by the ink reappearing over time in normal room temperatures/conditions.

    • @ShabbyFabrics
      @ShabbyFabrics  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello! Thank you for watching! We do appreciate feedback like this. We usually only use the Frixion pen to mark in locations on the fabric that won't be seen when the project is finished. Most of our marks are in seam allowances or on the back sides of our projects (like in this project). We certainly want to preserve our hard work, so we're careful with what we use.

      Hello! It's not too tricky with those points! We mitered the corners exactly like we would miter corners on a quilt, making sure we stopped 1/4" before we got to the edge of the topper. We folded the binding up and back down then started sewing 1/4" in from the edge. The angle is 120 degrees, the same as the setting triangles.

    Why don't you just sew a 60 degrees triangle to the end of the strip set and eliminate those inset seams? Much easier and give a neater finish.. I made a table cloth with these diamonds years ago, and the inset seams are so horrible that it still Lies in the bottom of my cabinet. ..... I guess I have to rip it apart and do it all over again.
