  • Pure olive oil soap is my favorite soap for my skin and face! It’s so soft and nourishing, making it the best natural homemade soap! This soap is so pure it is only made with 3 ingredients (olive oil, water & lye) however it does require a longer cure time to turn into a nice hard bar with a mild lather! Trust me, it is worth the wait! Recipe Below...
Olive oil is packed with anti-aging antioxidants, vitamins A, D, K, and E, and will leave your skin feeling silky smooth and soft to the touch. Olive oil also gives a gentle velvety smooth lather. Pure olive oil soap is hypoallergenic and known to soften the skin texture, moisturize, relieves eczema and psoriasis, & preserve your skin sebum.
    Ingredients:
    209 g Water
100% Purity NaOH (USE AN ONLINE SOAP CALCULATOR)
    550 g Olive Oil - All Grades
Make the Lye Solution: !!! SEE NOTES !!! Pour distilled water into a heat safe container. Pour the Lye into the water and stir with a stainless steel spoon. Do NOT breathe in the fumes. This will get very HOT. Stir well and leave someplace safe to cool. !!! SEE NOTES !!!
Make Olive Oil Soap: When the lye solution and oil are both around 100°F (38°C), pour the lye solution into the pan of olive oil. It's best to pour against a silicone spatula to reduce air bubbles. Blend the lye solution and oil together until it reaches trace. You will know you are close when the soap has thickened and is a light pudding consistency. Feel free to dip your stick blender in the pot and give it a few pulses to hurry this process.
Use silicone molds with cavities for best results. Leave the soap inside the mold for 24-48 hours before popping it out. Then cure for a minimum of 6 months before using (I find the bar is best after 1 year)

No, lye is a critical ingredient in the soap-making process. It reacts with oils during the saponification process to create soap and glycerin, changing the liquid oils into a solid soap bar. Thank you for watching!
