  • Airgun pellet gauge. Pellet Gage review. How to gauge pellet size.
Mark Camoccio checks out a pellet gauge from a company called www.pelletgage.com in America. It can be used to batch up your pellets by head size.

Hello, Mark, I suggest that for competition matches, sorting pellets is productive. But generally, it is significant to know what size pellets shoot best in a given rifled barrel. So you can sort enough to shoot test groups, and find the optimal head size for your own gun. Beyond that application, whenever you get a new batch of pellets, my suggestion is to sample 50 (about 10%) and measure the entire sample. Does the mean size match the size you determined? And from that sample, a good tin of pellets would have no more than one pellet exceeding +/- 0.01 mm from the mean. If you are buying a reputable brand, this is what you may expect. If you see a big shift (0.02 mm or more) between the sample mean and your optimal size, then that tin of pellets is likely to have a POI shift, and perhaps increased group sizes. Thanks for your video review!

It works. I have one. Great product. My rifle likes 5.51s. Incredibly small groups at 40 yards. It cut the overall size of my groups in half! From 1/2” to 1/4”.

A digital caliper seems to be working for me, and it's so much faster.

Mr. Moore,.... I'm inches away from buying one of these "Pelletgages" However at $49.95 pop + shipping for each different caliber, that's wayyy out of my budget. I want to save myself $50.00. Just how do you measure pellets with a caliper? Because I have one of those.

@@joedejesus6363 Back when I was fooling around with sorting, I really didn't see positive repeatable results so pretty much gave it up. Of course, I probably wasn't doing it correctly. If I try sorting again, it will be by weight only at first, because at distance, significant differences in weight are important. As to your question, as best I can recall, I just measured the head with the caliper. It seems I set the pellet on its tail and laid the caliper beside it, and the caliper's height was just right to catch the pellet's head. The table kept the caliper level, or so I figured. Good luck with your effort.

@@howdydoody30204b Thank you very much for that information. I'm going to take a crack at that technique and I'll be sure to get back with you on the results. Head Size and Weight, I'll have to remember that.
