    Huge thanks for an excellent video. It took a few months for me to source the part via ebay (in the UK) but once I had it, I was able to successfully repair my headphones in less than an hour. Given how many people report this part breaking, Sony should be ashamed of themselves for not acknowledging it as a design flaw and covering its repair under their warranty. By helping me fix it myself, you saved me ~£100 (repair + postage). Thanks again.

      It has been a known feature for the previous models as well. Looks more like intentional negligence for more sales.

      Also saved £100 on repair services! Sony did us wrong there. No wonder why the new model doesn't have this type of swivel lol.

      @@4nlimited3dition_4n3d This is what big military companies such as Boeing are doing when they sell their planes to the government. Alot of their parts brake or do not work and need to be replaced constantly. Thus, not only does Boeing make a ton on selling highly overpriced planes to the government (military) but also, they make even more by selling parts that break constantly.

    DANGER:
    Do NOT use anything sharp (like a metallic flathead screwdriver) as a prying tool near the exposed battery. Like was shown in this video. Even a slight puncture in the battery might cause it to catch on fire and/or to explode. And have for ex. some fireproof container nearby where you can quickly put it to burn safely, as you might not be able to even suffocate/exhaust the fire, if it's one of those types of batteries that continues to burn without any oxygen in the air. Use a plastic prying tool or something similar that isn't sharp. While unscrewing, be very careful not to puncture the battery.
    Joe, thank you for this informative video! Will be ordering the parts soon.

      I dont know about "expensive" . I look up these parts from few online sites and they are similar in price. I could order a cheaper Chinese version but who knows if that would be a time and money waster.

      It's a piece of plastic, though. The only reason they're expensive is because they want to sell them at that price, though to be fair one is welcome to find other alternatives. The tutorial is very appreciated, in any case.

    Thanks for the great step by step video. I made a new hinge bracket with my 3D printer (sorry guys, I didn't buy anything but a tip coming your way) then by following your instructions I managed to salvage my daughters AUD$400 headphones for the cost of about 7 cents of PLA filament. We have 3 sets of Sony XM4 headphones in our household, the right swivel break seems to be a very common fault with these headphones, so I'll be bookmarking your video for when I need it next time. Shame on Sony for not offering a free repair service! BTW, A plastic Guitar pick makes a great spudger tool and a few magnets in a dish made sure the screws dont go for a wander.

    thank you greatly for this instructional video, I myself had this break and it seems it is a common issue, they said warranty would not cover it despite it being a wear and tear defect, and they tried to charge me 250 dollars for something that cost me 300, (i still had to pay 80 just to have it back, they never told me about this)
    even in my country which has laws for this saying all warranty type repairs + shipping must be free they dared charge such outrageous prices, I don't know if it was Sony or my own store or if it really was illegal but I believe the consumer control people in my government might want to look into it

    The Sony Service Centre in Malaysia would have charged US$130 for the repair, which is the cost of 2/3 of the headphones.

    Hello joe! Thank you for this video it has helped me a lot! I have a question if you see this. In the video you said if the rubber gasket 7:09 is broken you sell it on your website, however I can’t find it. Does it come with the hinge swivel? Or has it simply evaded my finding skills?

    Although the prices look pretty reasonable for individual peices, to do a meanful repair it costs a lot. Both my left and right hinges are broken as a result of which I have buy 3 tools along with 2 metal U pieces, with the 2 swivels. Thats around 100 dollars + 80 dollars shipping to where I live. For that much money I guess I would be better of buying a new pair of headphones to be honest.

    • @Joesge

  • @n0oo7
    @n0oo7 ปีที่แล้ว

    so. I have a broken pair of xm3's and a broken pair of xm4's I originally tried to swap the battery from the 4 to the three. but the three has a unique issue where the power button doesn't work (it blinks a faint red when you press it) so I decided to swap the hinge from the 3 to the 4. The hinges don't match, but if you migrate the hinge AND the arms that connect to the ear cup (that connects via the 2 screws next to eachother), it pairs with the 4.
