  • Exploring the River Lyn around National Trust Watersmeet, which offers stunning scenery and amazing value day ticket fly fishing in Devon. Some gorgeous trout and aggressive takes to be enjoyed here, fishing pocket water, runs and deeper pools, with a combination of Turrall sedge patterns and jig style nymphs. Real adventure fishing at just £3.50 a day! For more info on the fishing, see Dom's blog: dgfishing.co.u...

Hi Dom, thanks for the inspiration, I’ve just spent my first afternoon on the Lyn, downstream of Watersmeet, I wasn’t sure if I was rock climbing or fishing, but despite being way outside of any previous experiences I managed to fool a couple. I’m looking forward to more exploring, and what great value!

hi Dominic, love that river and walked it for last 50yrs or so right up to the source and back then you could walk across the water on the backs of salmon but they're gone now, well done with a lovely video and as I took up fly fishing 2yrs ago it's on my list to fish.

Hi Dominic, I first read about this river in Mike Weaver's book, Lovely to see it in real life, it looks stunning. Must say the West country is blessed with a variety of small streams. many thanks

Super video, Dominic! Those trout are little turbo rockets, certainly good to have public waters of this calibre in the UK., lovely country.
This is my kind of trout fishing,
I've got the urban equivalent on my doorstep !!!

Many thanks, glad you enjoyed it. And amen, we could do with more waters of this class at such amazing value. A big part of my motivation to do this film and write about the location was the risk that it could be lost. It's important that tickets are sold and rents are paid- because if not, the fishery could become yet another private stitch-up in the hands of a tiny number of wealthy anglers, as is the case on so much of the River Exe.

@@domgarnettfishing I totally agree, although up here in the North we've a good number of recovering rivers that offer free or inexpensive fishing, for trout and coarse fish, much of it in public parks ! I can't imagine "posh" syndicate anglers wanting to pay much for that unless there's salmon in the picture.
In more rural North Lancashire, however, its tighter, there's not much day ticket fishing on offer on the Ribble or Lune. Saying that, many of the club waters are affordable and waiting lists are short since the salmon runs have dwindled.
I think the south east seems to be the tightest from what I can gather!
      Cheers, tight lines!👍
PS just published my latest vid, night-time fly fishing on my local stream.

Hello, it's a beautiful video, I like it a lot and a very beautiful river, I really like your rod, what is your rod and what length do you fish?

    • @domgarnettfishing
      @domgarnettfishing  ปีที่แล้ว

The rod is a 7ft 6 3 weight. A very basic model - fairly slow actioned compared to most modern rods.

Nice angling Dom. Cracking stretch. Let’s do it as soon as the temps drop.

    Hello Dom,
lovely, and Ive walked it in winter, and read of it in Tarka the Otter...do sea trout run it late summer ,when there is water?

Hi Simon. Many thanks- glad you enjoyed the film. To answer your question, yes, the river still does get a fair few sea trout when the conditions are right. Usually early and late in the season. Nor is it always necessary to fish at night, because a lot of the pools are well shaded. We badly need rain right now though! September could be well worth a visit- keep an eye on the weather.
