Jess Parkinson teaches ‘Eye Yoga’, which she claims can help boost your vision and protect your sight from deterioration. But how easy are these exercises? And how often should you do them? Jess is here today to give us a masterclass and make sure you’re looking in the right direction.

Let's have a regular feature with Jessica please... she was brilliant and explained everything so well, I have just had my cataract removed and as soon as my six week check up has been done I am going to follow this regime... I was so impressed with Jessica, she certainly is a breath of fresh air on the programme...

l know this soo well !! When my dad was a young Sailor in WW2, he became friends with an Eye Specialist while they were together in the war and away at sea. This friend told Dad, the vast majority of people dont need to wear glasses....lf they exercised their eyeballs every day. Dad took his advise onboard, and never needed glasses right to his final age of 97. The Eye Specialist apparently wrote at least 1 book on the subject. l wish l could remember his name.

This is not going to cure or prevent certain eye diseases…dry eye can also be a problem with your tear ducts but these exercises will not help conditions like retina detachment..astigmatism….cataracts..macular degeneration…..problems with short or long distance…this is no substitute for regular visits to your optometrist for your vision.

This isn't new or yoga (Sanskrit yuj, to unite). The ophthalmologist Dr William Bates published his Bates Method in his book, 'Perfect Sight Without Glasses' in 1920.

Sorry but no. These eye exercises will work the 6 muscles on the outside of the eye which are there to enable eye movements, however they will do nothing for the completely different muscles inside the eye which are the ones we actually use for focusing. I am not saying that eye movements are not useful, however to suggest they can remove the need for spectacles shows a complete lack of understanding of the visual system. Vision is a hugely complex area which cannot be distilled down to a few eye movement exercises.

This is dangerous without proper scientific proof. If you want clinical advice, consult an Optometrist or a doctor.
‘Eye muscles’ are not linked to the jaw. The eyelid is linked to the same nerve with the jaw but the eye muscles are linked to different nerves.
