It's so funny to me that every metal musician I've ever seen is actually just the nicest sweetest guy and then their music is like DEATH DESTRUCTION BLOOD MURDER KILL EVERYTHING 😂
It's extremely cathartic to Zen out and play some very aggressive tunes while your body is paradoxically so chilled out. You have to be relaxed to play fast so it's this weird duality of emotions going on. Keeps ya pretty chill.
I found out he is a brazilian and as i'm a brazilian too I can say we can work for cheap as long as it's dollars cause they have a lot of value here. Like 20 dollars would be 2 times more than the average worker receives a day in Brazil lol.

i think most people dont want to explore other genres which is a shame. like in your example its not like the gospel musicians will suddenly turn into death metal, but they will go out their comfort zone to learn new skills and a deeper understanding of what works in music and what doesnt. there is so much tribalism between genres its insane.
I am the opposite of Zack, I never knew jazz drummers were so good, but watching him made me appreciate jazz drummers. Good to not be a closed minded drummer
I grew up with a metal band like so many others, but our drummer took it really seriously and introduced us all to jazz and gospel drumming to open our eyes to other influences. Sometimes jazz and gospel drummers just destroy but in a totally different way that can be hard to process initially
My bands drummer was a worship drummer for a bit and now he plays progressive metalcore (Think ABR, Protest The Hero etc.) and his dynamics are out of this world
Heck yeah. The somewhat hidden intricacies are the most important. it's so odd to jam with a drummer that understands that the little notes, and them jam with one that doesn't, you never really notice how sick it is until the barely audible stuff is gone.
Please continue this practice series :D its great watching you two and seeing how he is trying to teach you while youre making silly jokes. Love the dynamic
I highly recommend you give an ear to Opeth if you'd want improvement on your techniques. Their drum work has a really good mixture of relaxed jazzy flow and intricate metal power which separates them from similar bands in the same genre.
@@iamscythed that doesn't have any fast double kick in, or jazzy drumming in it tbh. Mostly just groove based. The opening of deliverance has fast double kicks then the verses are kinda jazzy and delicate. The whole middle section is groovy so all bases are covered really.

just a quick tip for everyone practicing double-pedal consistency: practice those grooves from weaker (left) foot, and if you want drum sheet just use snare rudiments for two hands and play them with feet on kick drum instead, simple as that :) PS: even if you're not playing metal and not interested in double-bass at all, such excercises will help a lot with stamina and brain to play hi hat on foot along one kick drum

When I was learning to play double bass - I used to do this thing I called 'The left foot/right foot drum off' - Start with a basic 4/4 groove - and each full measure, you swap between playing with the right foot and the left foot on the kick. Then, start adding embellishments - might be some triplets, some 8th note grooves, then working up to some heel-toe stuff etc. The goal was to be able to play with my right foot to a point where I couldn't play with it with my left, then hold it there until I could.
