Unlike regular chicken, it’s very lean like free-range chicken, and frying would make it tougher. These are better in a stew, which is how they are often served, usually with medicinal herbs.
So its supposed to be more chickeny than normal chicken since its free range?
@@totot99yeah in China ppl usually use it for soup because of it
Even if it is cooked in the proper way, I still cannot handle its taste and texture, the flavor is too weird and the meat is mushy. This chicken is healthy but it is not something that everyone can enjoy
Its also prob not soaked in brine like most grocery chickens you get in the US.
eye round of chicken. it is lean and no taste. just pure protein. It is used in herbal soup for healthier reason and doesn't make the soup oily.
Black chickens taste really good boiled whole with 1 stalk of lemon grass. A corn fed and free ranged one tastes better boiled. Time and add tofu to it so they both finish cooking at the same time. Adds a nice creamy taste and texture. Different breeds of black chicken also matter when it comes to taste.

5:37 "Fried chicken will always be better than any other chicken." I dunno Guga, I'm a big sucker for chicken inasal. Marinated overnight in a mixture of vinegar, citrus, garlic, ginger, lemongrass, sugar, salt, and pepper, grilled on an open flame while constantly being basted in a savory annatto oil mixture and served with rice and a soy-citrus-vinegar dip, it's the Filipino version of barbecue chicken and if made well ends up incredibly delicious with a lot of juices still in the meat. Yes, even if you use chicken breasts.
this is why i think most people don't like chicken breast, just the way it's cooked. inasal makes chicken breast super nice, juicy and flavorful and it's honestly the best part of it aside from chicken thigh
Portuguese/African piri piri chicken is done in the same way and is excellent.
I honestly love chicken breast, I prefer it over thighs especially in curry; honestly even more so than fried.
Chicken in cream of chicken soup is wonderful, roasted chicken on pasta is amazing, and don't even get me started on chicken satay, kufte, and shish-tawook.
And then there's chicken plus ginger in literally any form. Chicken + ginger is a combination you _cannot_ go wrong with.
Silkies lay rich, delicious greenish/bluish eggs with deep orangish yolks. If you can find them, try them.
I would love to try that but I know I wont find it where I live, even duck is scarce here..not to mention the eggs
I think you need to revisit the black chicken and try a different way of cooking them, get the boys to change their minds. Growing up we raised a bunch of fowl and sometimes we had silkies too. We live in the states too, we got them from amish farmers in southern Maryland, so I'm kind of surprised that you say they are so rare because they seemed very accessible to us. I can't remember exactly the way we prepared them back then it was so long ago but I remember them being very tender and delicious compared to our other chickens.
As a child i was opposed to eating them because I adored them like pets, silkies look really awesome afterall. but my father tricked me into eating some lol, maybe a bit messed up depending on your perspective, but it wasn't a big deal I wasn't hurt about it, more so surprised how delicious it was
Bon appétit yummy 🤤
GUGA do a video of all your experiments ranked . Would love to know which ones were best
Yes! I would love to see his experiments ranked!!!
This one pls 👍
5:11 nah bro is wildin 💀💀
We keep one of these roosters with our laying hens. He's all black and the breed is called Ayam Cemani. Named him Nathan Explosion, because he has blackness in every layer of his being - which is pretty metal. We've raised some crosses between him & our Rhode Island Red hens before and the meat is colored like the one in the video, and they are pretty lean. Hard to beat the Cornish Cross meat (this is what most grocery store chicken is) that grows fat & quickly. Neat presentation with these black meat birds but much better eating experience with the traditional fat chickens!
0:43 the best possible way is cooking it in Indian spices. That’s it 🫶
I’m actually raising these types of chickens. They’re really cool looking before the uhhh…. Slice and dice.

I've had that chicken many times while living in China. When I was working there it was very common and not expensive. It's almost always used in soups, I've rarely ever seen it cooked in other ways, and I know for sure I've never seen anyone deep fry it. This is probably in part because it tends to be lean and not juicy at all.
You went full Disney on placing the floating heads on the chicken.
It’s normally made into soup, my mum used to have one whole black chicken soup every day. Good for health.
‼️Guga you have to try "Ribeye of the Sky" aka Sandhill Crabe. They're AMAZING btw 🙌🍻
Make a chicken soup or even a congee with it and man it’ll taste amazing with some shrimp on top
We normally cook that chicken for soup, and that is a quite normal but a little expensive one in our market.
I saw this in a LivingBobby video with Nick Digiovanni!
When you said the black chicken was crossed with a silky, I knew it would go wrong. Silkies are a show egg or pet breed. Not really a meat breed. I wish the cross would have been with something good like a Breese. Then taken back to a black chicken again. But you have to take what you can get.
We need that future canoe and guga collab
BBC : "Big Black Chicken"
8:03 Now Guga needs to try marinating a chicken in squid ink
Is this a reupload? I've seen a guga black chicken video before? Here or on SVE probably
No, as on the Sous Vide channel, they did not deep fry the chicken, but rather cooked it on the bbq after sous vide.
I used to raise Silkies, along other various more popular breeds. I never tasted much difference between the Silkies and the others. What I will say is that the best meat chickens are farm raised and never see the inside of a supermarket.
When he said bat wing, that was pretty accurate.
Reads title: "I cook the RAREST Chicken I could find!"
Concerned for Guga's safety lol
Silkies remind me of eating partridge little dryer than regular chicken
I love all chicken equally regardless of color
Guga, i got your griddle kit, but how about offering the torch!
the black chicken is like the square watermelon costly but more for the look
Those chickens are 65% more prone to violence, drug use, and criminal behavior in general over regular chickens
lol XD
Ayoo
You just made my day bro😂😂
Wow..... lol
Lmfaooo..
I Love Guga Foods Videos 🩶🤍
Usually, we make soup with this chicken. Frying it feels very wrong tho, even looking at their reaction we already know that regular chicken taste better than silky chicken.
I can’t believe he doesn’t like it when the meat hangs out 😂
U know , as an asian, i never thought of or see deep fried black chicken until today.
you should have just sous vided it with some herbs Guga
That chicken is so popular in Korea and its soup is well known as stamina food. :)
I used to have a Ayam Cemani rooster. I've still have a black Silkie rooster
black chicken needs to be boiled its tough , we use it in curry. its not soft like reg chicken. its a bit like how u prepare turkey which is also tough
Paired with Sapporo - both.
Love your videos Guga!
future canoe, max, now guga
I have a friend from Indonesia and he told me these type of chickens are used in black magic, apparently!
“Den in the pan I threw in some buuuttteeerr”
Void Chicken from Stardew valley!
they're used as a ritual for black magic practice in my country..lol
That's why it's supposed to be on soups
I have this every other week hahaha. Didn’t know it’s rarest
That octo is missing some legs 😂
A chicken straight out of Chernobyl..!
The question is not how rare it is, but how good it is fried and does it come with fries?
In uk we have pheasant, when not over hung the meat is superb, wild n more flavour than any chicken.
For some reason they hang it for to long for a gamey flavour , pointless, reckon if it was done KFC style it could be fantastic.
In India's mountain areas like Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, this black chicken is called "kadaknath".
You can get one kilogram of this in India for 670 rupees (somewhere under $10 USD). We call this chicken “Kadaknath Chicken”.
It's called Cemani Chicken in Indonesia
It’s known as Kadaknath in India. Try making Indian chicken curry with it. The texture will amaze you.
My mom has a few of these chickens in her hen house.
Can you try "Flor de garum" ?
blind tasting is a better way of comparing dishes Guga
A type of chicken that's equal in color to those who eat it 🗣
Now I know where century egg comes from
Ah, a chicken from Tsalal!
In VietNam it is very common, u can find it everywhere
The black chicken is not mean to fry or roast. Just for stew.
The name of black chicken is Ayam Cemani. From Indonesia ❤❤❤❤
Did Guga Said, My Black Chicken
that's mystique from xmen

black friday chicken
Noooo! You destroyed that chicken by deep frying it 😭. As Asian, all of my 7 generation ancestor cry watching this.
Cook it as soup or anything related to its juice. It has the best taste with it. You "washed" the taste by dipping it in deep frying.
Uncle Roger going to cry too
In Indonesia we call it "Cemani Chicken"
You monster, that was the last of it's kind.
if you have seen a silkie chicken , such a goofy looking chicken
I grew up eating this in Indonesia
I saw this in Cooking Master Boy
it's called soup chicken for a reason.
I've seen this chicken in a Filthy Frank video once
So wait a second he said put avocados in a bowl, they were already in a bowl and he transferred to another bowl huh?
Guga name in my language, it means get old
Nevertheless the chicken looks delicious 😋
Brined in squid ink, perhaps, 🔥
looks like future canoes chicken

So true 😂

This will b the top comment 🔥🫡
Guga, I know that you have been doing this for years, but It has to be said. Whenever you are doing a comparison and you go to the side-dish first before the second or 3rd option, that changes the flavor profile in your mouth, is not doing a palete cleansing [like pickled ginger would do], so the second meat or whatever is then competing with the side dish, not with the control. I think is worth taking this into consideration.
Love your vids!
Yep, It is an actual waste of everyone's time.
This channel has no integrity anymore, they only talk about the main point of the video for less than a minute at the end.
Agree, i like all of the videos but keeping the main dish after side dish tasting is not exactly comparing. I think he keeps the main dish for climax like in movies but unfortunately that's not how this works in this scenario. Also, honestly it's always frustrating too.
As if you’re going to be able to taste exactly what he’s tasting…. Y’all are too concerned bout the wrong things

there's a reason why silkie only used in herbal soup in asia. Guga, if you decide to try this chicken again please do the herbal soup one.
This is a barbeque channel, tell me when was the last time you saw him compare soups here. I'll wait.
@@ripandtear That's the problem, he's comparing chicken used in soup for medicine and a normal chicken. Comparison have to be fair, he could've made another soup based dish to actually bring out the flavor
@@pillowhead4456 You copy pasted the same comment in reply to me here, I already answered it.
This is literally a fair comparison comparing barbecue chicken. Why would he waste his time learning and making chicken soup just for this chicken video.
Guy to the right has an eating disorder and he's the one making almost every critic and triggering all of you.
@@ripandtear if you dont know why then you dont understand food my guy
@@bhalachandranaik5351 you didn't read a single thing I wrote
I feel like he wasted the black chicken. He just fried it like a regular chicken without even knowing what it tastes like. Using spices and a method that's meant to combine with the taste of regular chicken just doesn't work for something that tastes different in the first place, you're doing a disservice to the ingredient that way.
It might have been fairer to make pot pies out of it, so the color wouldn't have been as obvious.
On the other hand, I would probably have just roasted it.
That steak and cheese dip looked fantastic.
Leave it to Guga to sneak some steak into a video about chicken!
Love you guys!
I think the problem here is that the spices/taste he added to both were ideal for regular chicken, but obviously not to something that tastes differently. You'd need other ingredients to bring out the best of it. You can't just cook a wagyu steak like a regular steak either.
it taste better when you cook it like curry because of that lean meat
"natural breed" chickens tend to have stronger and distinct taste than the typical cornish cross chicken. Anyways, soup still would make the most sense as its how it is usually cooked.
Black chicken is best served as herbal soup
Rotisserie >>>
The off flavor is probably the lack of antibiotics and growth hormones
Silkies are usually used in the Fujian region of China in herbal soups.
In Indonesia, they called it Cemani Chicken. They are usually made as part of some kind of old ritual, or part of a Old-time beliefs. Then what about the price? they often sold at unreasonable prices.
Its silkie chicken, not cemani. The meat wasn't as black as cemani. Silkie chicken has fur-like feathers while cemani has "normal" feathers.
Bener itu ayam cemani
The difference between Cemani and Silky is the meat and innard, Cemani is more like coal-colored than Silky and everything is pitch black including the organs while Silky only get black colored on outside but inside was not that black like Cemani have.
My Grandpa used to have Cemani and it was so dark that I thought it was cursed since birth and I dont even want going close to that.

I tried to Google this type of chicken, and now I'm in trouble at work...
It's black CHICKEN
Not black rooster
I'm Chinese, I was drooling when I saw what the chicken looked like. You guys just don't understand just how tasty the silkie chicken is. Good lord, the memories of medicinal soup, so flavourful with a light bitterness to it that helps soothe your stomach after a full meal. It's so good.
go continue eating bats and other stuff so that u can start another pandemic
Unfortunately, I think us Americans don’t even remember what REAL chicken taste like anymore. They shoot so many steroids and gmos into our chickens. You saw the size difference. The Silk chicken was the size an actual chicken should be. And I imagine it’s changed the taste for us. I’m sure the Silk chicken is delicious. I’d rather try it in soup as you’ve mentioned as opposed to him frying it

dry age steak in oyster sauce..?
Guga has made Silkie chicken before.
If the chicken has a slight fish taste then the chicken was fed fishmeal. Silkie and well most chicken that's not normal/typical meat chicken has more flavour due to being older and fed a different diet with a lower protein content and more variety in their feed
