It's wonderful to see other Gayle Mccormick fans. She was under rated and she retired from music too soon. She should have continued to perform on TV and toured across the country. Her music and her songs have really got a hold on me. I think she is one of the most talented singers. You are much loved and you are missed dear lady. I pray we meet in the next life where you can sing to your fans once again.
I once spoke to Gayle on the phone in the 90s - she was very chill and modest. She said Flesh & Blood album may have been "too raw" at the time. I think it's her best altho the Shady Brook single is awesome!
I hope to meet her in the next life too I'm just now get to know her music and I just don't understand why she's not a bigger star than what she was she got ripped off man rip Gail McCormick God bless you from Indiana USA see you in the next life
I just love her singing. She should have been a super star because of her artistic talent and taste. She was kind of a Dusty Springfield type of singer but had a Janis Joplin edge, I don't know the full story, but I suspect the music business politics of that era, bad management and a bad publicist. The corporate music biz of that era was actually designed to suppress new talent so they could continue to hype profits from existing artists. Record companies would sign talent then never release their albums to keep competition off the market. She did have a good life and she was successful. I love her.
ftsjr We LOVED her and we always will. Let's all try to join her in Heaven with the Angels. I bet they have quite a band up there. When I think of Gayle McCormick I think of TRUE LOVE. What a BABE!
Gayle you are surely missed. Thank you for all the memories. We will keep them alive with us each day and hopefully meet you in Heaven 1 day and listen to all the new songs you've made. God Bless You. ..
Linda Soppet She MUST have been a sweetheart in real life from all indications. It's really heard not to have Loved this gorgeous lady the second you heard her sing.
MusicMC1 Jonnie King, former radio deejay, has a nice tribute to Gayle on the internet. Google : Jonnie King - Gayle McCormick Tribute. Also, check out Gayle McCormick & The Klassmen "Mr. Loveman" on TH-cam. One of her early songs with "softer" vocals. She started with that St. Louis area band just out of high school, before moving to L.A. in 1969 to join Smith. Deejay King appears in the "Mr. Loveman" music video with Gayle in the radio station studio pictures.
Nothing but a pimply teen when I first saw lovely All-American girl next door Gayle McCormick on television belting out "Baby's It's You." Wow, was I mesmerized.

Her first solo song "Gonna Be Alright Now" went to # 84 (Hot 100) & at # 20 (Adult Contemporary) in August of 1971. Her last song was "Coming In, Out Of The Rain" that went to # 46 (Adult Contemporary) on Shady Brook Records (released only as a 45 single) in October of 1975 & that was her last swan song.
On this day in 1972 {March 11th} Gayle McCormick performed "You Really Got A Hold On Me" on the Dick Clark ABC-TV Saturday-afternoon program, 'American Bandstand'... Two months earlier on January 16th the song entered Billboard's Top 100 chart for a one week stay at position #98... Exactly nine years earlier on March 11th, 1963 the Miracles had "You've" in their original version of "You've Really Got A Hold On Me", and at the time it was at #20 on the Top 100, five weeks earlier it had peaked at #8 {for 2 weeks} and it stayed on the chart for sixteen weeks... Two other covered versions have made the Billboard charts, in 1979 Eddie Money took his version to #72 on the Top 100 chart, and five years later in 1984 Mickey Gilley covered it, his version reached #2 {for 1 week} on Billboard's Hot Country Singles chart, the week it was at #2, the #1 record for that week was "Let's Stop Talkin' About It" by Janie Fricke...
Wow. On that one album cover she looks a lot like the actress Bridgette Fonda. She sounds great! I never knew of her before. I can't believe it. And I know everything. (Just joking. [bless]) I only discovered her the other night, right here on TH-cam. She IS an artist that you'd like to know more of, isn't she? Hats off to TH-cam! -And to all of those who post on here!
@@BarkleyConners Wow. Watching it again I gotta say instead that "the actress Bridgette Fonda LOOKS LIKE Gayle McCormick on that promotion album cover of hers." [and, way to go Quentin T.]
a bit late as a response. I had loved Gayle mcCormack as being a fantastical singer from the first time I heard her singing Baby it's you in 1969. Did not know how gorgeously looking she was at the time. But, if you are glad that you have learnt about her, then if you don't already know (you do know everything :-) ), then give a listen to Lydia Pense with Cold Blood doing, amomg others, 'I just wanna make love to you' and "You are the sunshine of my life'. Gayle and Lydia always reminded me so much of each other (Gayle was the better looking I feel)
@@BarkleyConners That's sad how he treated her. Well, maybe he got his on his death bed. AND, aside from that, she became a huge success, whereas he did not.
There's a hint of Janis in there too - Baby it's you made me research the singer, and she's awesome. No, I have no idea why she didn't reach stardom like some of her female contemporaries.
Well, most talented people never really do. Those who do have pluck and LUCK. Getting a record deal guarantees nothing. If the "suits" don't back you, well, forget about it. BUT if you did happen to make a few records, maybe--just maybe--someone will re-discover them at some point. So at least there's THAT kind of legacy. That's something anyway.
She appeared on American Bandstand promoting her first solo Dunhill lp but it is not on UTube. Lou Adler or Michelle Phillips would have the tea on Ms. McCormick.
Good recording, but if you think about it when you look at it, by the time this recording was released, a paradigm shift had taken place and interest in this style of music had pretty much vanished.
Her voice soars so high that it's a shame the stars held her under the radar.
That voice ..!
R.I.P. Gayle McCormick who died back in 2016.
Gayle McCormick had a big, talented voice & should have been a major star. It just shows how unfair life can be when no talent bums make it big!

She got married and had a family. What's wrong with that if it made her happy? I, too, miss her music.
Baby It's You with Smith, in my opinion, should have been song of the year for '69.
She is so beautiful and so talented!! I am surprised she didn't get more recognition!!

This beautiful women's voice sends chills through me!!!
Wow, the world really missed a chance at pushing to the top ,one of the best pure vocalist ever !!
Love her voice and personality. ❤️
One of my favorite songs! Gayle has such a voice that can’t be matched. RIP
Great voice and cover of this Smoky Robinson song. One of those talents that should have been but never reached the recognition she deserved.

so so pretty pretty voice and knock out looks
She really knew how to say, ""BABY"".
Man, she can belt out a song. In my opinion she was second to none in the 70s. Check out her Baby, It's You if you haven't.
Loved Gayle. A tremendous voice and good looks to boot. So said about her passing. You are missed Gayle.
a very happy birthday to you today. your voice lives on.

Too bad that according to Wikipedia she was only professionally active until she was 28 years old. Love her voice.

Quentin Tarantino copied Gayle McCormick's album cover Flesh & Blood for a poster of Brigit Fonda promoting "Jackie Brown"

A underrated talent. In what year did she pass awayand if anybody knows from what.
She died of cancer on 3/1/2016. She was 67.
sadly had fallen into hard times and had to move back to suburban St. Louis and work at the mall and lived with her mom for awhile.
She reminds me a little bit like Dusty Springfield!
+RonSafreed Reminds me a little of Carole King as well.
+thespeez wonder why she never made it big like both Dusty & Carole?
I was thinking the same but Gayle wasn't quite as sultry as Springfield was. Both ladies were excellent singers though.
Reminds me of Janis a little bit.
Better
Janis and Gayle our beltin' it out for the LORD!!! Nice thought, huh!?
Johnny Jensen OMG, yes!😄😃😍
she was influenced by Tina Turner and performed with her & Ike in St. Louis juke joints. She could actually follow Tina and still hold the crowd.
@@BarkleyConners I did not know that. Thanks. She was a great singer.
Gayle told me in the dressing room Tina would take off her wig and show her the scars on her head inflicted by Ike.

Location location location. What it takes to succeed in business. To succeed in music....... the song the song the song. Simple.

Wow, this is the true story of my life with my husband of 36 years. How messed up is that?????
She is biopic or doc-worthy
Gayle McCormick & Lydia Pense should have been as big as Janis & Dusty..... imho 😒
Agree 200% Yet sadly they were relative unknowns. So were Smith and Cold Blood..so unfair!
@Chris Infiesto
That goes for Genia Ravan too.
Amen! Jim Hinckle in St. Francis, Wisconsin
She sounds like linda rondstadt

Should of been huge
Maybe didn’t want it.
Good recording, but if you think about it when you look at it, by the time this recording was released, a paradigm shift had taken place and interest in this style of music had pretty much vanished.
And yet Tony DeFranco was allowed to exist.
but for her next album Flesh & Blood she changed it up and went full-blown rock chick
sounds like a little Carol king meets Janis Joplin....
Yes!!!!
Glad to hear her version over Smoky Robinson's - which i find bland.
I like Janis Joplin, but Gayle Mc Cormac is better .
