Smoky and the Miracles really brought it to the Apollo! A lot of record sales, not just from the audience but word of mouth, if you can crush it on that stage. Pressure's on because there were other acts on the bill trying to do the exact same thing.
Good Lord, I've never seen this! What a powerful performance....just blown away! The choreography is restrained, but evocative, and such lovely well-tailored clothing. A treat to the ears and eyes. Excellent musicians, vocal arrangements and powerful vocals by Smokey. No vulgar twerking, oh the good days when people had class.
So glad I finally found one with Claudette still singing in the group. Hope I can find one with her singing lead next, & SMOKEY IS OUTSTANDING, A BORN LEAD SINGER !!!
Jamerson was the road bassist for Miracles until 1964 when Motown realised he was too valuable and kept him in the studio with a few exceptions for the remainder of his career with Motown.
Whoa!!! Did you see the double clip at the :50 sec mark???? BAM!! That’s that CLASS!!! Look at the immaculate clothes along with those steps! MAN…are they slick!!! Gosh!!! Come on!!!

@@NathanAHogan Wow! So, Claudette kinda sorta was filling in although she’s technically a member! And if I remember, she stopped performing in ‘64-‘65 when Pete must’ve reunited with the group.
@@horizontoday7874 She was a full member until several miscarriages forced her to retire in 1964. From then on, it was just Smokey, Ronnie, Bobby and Pete until Smokey left to go solo in 1972. Marv Tarplin went on with Smokey in 72.
It is amazing what this man put into this performance - the definitive one of "You Really Got A Hold On Me" i might add, which, besides his Sam Cooke-Lou Rawls inspired duet with fellow Miracle Bobby Rogers includes the actual song which inspired it ("Bring It On Home To Me") and some nice choreography on the part of The Miracles!
The Miracles are the quintessential group of Motown stag, power, prolific, songwriting, the backbone of soul music, it’s too bad they broke up at the height of the power. Long live smokin, Bill, and the three that are real from the hill.
@@mr.daniel2000 Thank you so much for sharing that. I didn't know that. It's awesome how great artists can be inspired by other great artists. And we get to enjoy the timeless harvest of music.
This performance makes me think that the reason Smokey so often sang in falsetto or mezza voce is because his full voice doesn't hold up when being pushed.
I've always heard that the patrons at the Apollo were very demanding. If you did not perform to their expectations, you were booed off of the stage. The Miracles certainly gave them more than their money's worth.
Thank you Smokey, thank you Apollo, thank you Good Times Roll :)
I just never realized how great Smokey's voice was. That is some dynamic vocal action.
I loved Smokey before she knew him.
They’re all treasures❤❤❤❤
Smokey Robinson is one of the hippest artist in the world. Ultimate voice
No lip synching here this is live at the APOLLO THEATER!!!
Still listening 2023 ❤ Too cool 😎✌️❤️🌼

There's no way to express how good this clip is... It's real real real good.!!!🌟🎤🎧
Nobody brings it like Smokey Robinson. The ultimate singer, songwriter, showman.
Sam Cooke is better

Smokey Robinson was one of The World's Greatest Singer and song writer. Wrote some Beautiful songs for my favorite Group The Temptations.
Smokey! A true living legend!
WE LOVE YOU ❤️!
The performance, the standard by which to compare all other performances.
You can feel their excitement performing at the mecca that was the Apollo.
Jamerson was the road bassist for Miracles until 1964 when Motown realised he was too valuable and kept him in the studio with a few exceptions for the remainder of his career with Motown.
Thanks for pointing that out! There are very few video clips of him, to my knowledge. One great one with Marvin Gaye is out there.
I loved every song Smokey what's an amazing singer 🥰💜
Claudette's voice, WOW.
She was the loudest member of the group
Great song, especially including Sam Cooke’s ending Bring it on Home to me!
Smokey was feelin that performance! LOL
One Sunday morning very early...6ish, looked over to my right on Santa Monica Blvd and there was Smokey in a brown Rolls. Nodded and smiled. ✌🙏

My fave is More Love .
Then decades later I really took to his song Crusin
Claudette said Smokey wrote that song More Love for her
I saw The Motown Revue at The Fox Theater New Years Eve 1965 what a show all that great talent in my City Detroit!
One of the best.
Mr. Smokey Robinson: music in human form

Very rare to see Claudette performing! I wonder where Pete was.
Pete was in the Army at the time. He didn't return back to The Miracles until early 1964.

Wow, what a super great soul melody. Subed and liked.
He was IN IT!!!!!!!👍🏿 My first time seeing SMOKEY ROBINSON GET LOOSE✔️💯
Just love this
What’s crazy is that he grew up down the street from Aretha Franklin. A lot of talent in one neighborhood.
Smokey, Aretha and Sam Cooke grew up together. All three are fantastic performers.
I think Diana Ross lived in the neighborhood too.
That Was Dope !!!!
Fantastic ❤️🩹💝❤️🩹💝

Missing the heart and soul back there (Pete Moore)?
Wish the sound engineer had been on duty that night. Could barely hear anyone but Smokey.
What is the name of the singer to Smokey's right?
I wonder why there was no footage of James Brown
Recorded during this time 63
4:00 slid some Sam Cooke in there. Wow

Smoky !
Amazing what he could achieve with an overdriven amp and a mic

Smokey sounded hoarse, but I actually liked his voice cracking. Strange, but to me it adds a soulful flavor.
Smokey, we came to hear YOU, not the damn audience!!!
Youve really got a hold on me😅
