- I'd seen this car sitting around in a nearby town. Then it showed up here when the guy who wanted to buy the Lumina got it. He and I arranged a trade. I think it came out OK, although the fuel pump is definitely bad.

nice find ! you should oil the frame to prevent rust.
Cool Kcar, love those cars. And love the Canadian music playing on the radio BTO's You Aint Seen Nothing Yet!
My mom had an 88 Chrysler town and country woodie wagon when I was growing up, had the 2.5 EFI as well.
I do love these ol' K cars. I think they're pretty cool. It's too bad that nowadays, you don't too many K cars anymore.
Good job for helping him out.
I sold these @ Blue Grass Chrysler Plymouth when they first came out in 1981. I took a customer on a test ride. Fully loaded wagon. Returning from the test drive, the customer turned the car off and removed the key. The entire lock assembly fell into his lap. I exclaimed that that was a rare option for security. We all laughed ourselves to tears.
And yes, they STILL bought the car. These were cheap, disposable cars, but when new, they were very nice.
I had the exact same car. All the same equipment and engine. The only difference, mine was red. I miss that car!!!
I just love these old retro cars for some reason, they're much more unique than the typical newer cars you normally see on the road.
KishiroKazecuh The only old cars of ours I miss are the 90 something newyorker and my mother's 1990 Sundance. Sundance was 10 years old but still going... until a lady in a van hit it, thankfully my dad who was driving it at the time wasn't hurt. but it killed the car.

Great video!
Perfect family car for you and key keeper!!
The Keykeeper's my brother. I've got no interest whatsoever in relationships or families.
I miss my 1984 Plymouth Reliant station wagon.
Awesome videos, I know these videos are pretty old but still enjoyable nonetheless. I currently own a 93 Chevy Lumina 3.1 and my fiance owns a 92 Plymouth Sundance with the same 2.5 Chrysler 4 cylinders both are in pretty good shape because they were elderly owned and they've lasted coming up on 30 years and a load of work has been being put into them
I've got loads of videos on them on my channel
Cool video
my neighbor has a 1989 reliant k and its all origional with over 200,000 miles and well taken care of. my neighbor is the only owner of the k car and he still drives the thing from time to time since of having a car and truck. but they just go go go u can almost never kill a k car
That's the first time I've seen a K-car with a console automatic. My dad's friend had a Reliant with a stick-shift, which is probably even more rare.
Well done video, your hilarious !
very nice k wagon dont forget ur pcv vale!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! n a bottle of fuel injection and check fluids and man ya got a great car to be in 10/10
I saw an aftermarket cassette deck like that at a Pep Boys a month or so ago.
they used to have that on the vettes, my 1980 had that for the key as well
@uxwbill not all vehicles have the key lock button most older vehicles do most newer ones have the anti theft chips in them it all depends on the vehicle though
Thanks for the speedy reply and I was afraid you were going to say that !! Not sure what I'm going to do about it though as I was told by the mechanic that it would cost $1000.00 plus to fix it and that's a little much.. Going to do a little more research on it first but I have to say I really enjoy driving it and would like to get it going again as it is in really good shape for the age of it. Much better than yours(no offence intended).. So thanks again..
werd I got another question, have you guys done an intake manifold gasket change for any car, I gotta do my 96 chevy lumina and I just wanna know the basics and wut not
Something tells me that the 88 Wagon is getting the CD player and speakers out of the rusting out 84.
what's the story on it now do you still have it? can you do another video on it if you do
It would be nice if you still could get most cars in a station wagon variant.
85 Aries and Reliants could have power windows as an option. they are rare, Thanks bill for this video, come check out mine, Under Restored 1986 Reliant
Do you still have the wagon parked at the farm? If so, can you please do an update video?
Bill..can you tell me more about how I see if my relay is dirty as you mentioned? I have an 88 Aries and I haven't driven it in about a year fearing that the pump is bad. Any diagnostic info is appreciated.
A dirty relay often have dirty or coroded contacts.
What tune is that on the radio? Cheers
Are you going to juist strip the parts off the red rocket and pu them on the new wagon as something breaks?
Nice MGB in the background
@uxwbill Hmm. My dad's 1994 dodge dakota with a 5-speed manual doesent have one of those key-switch things
Could you swap the buzzer in the Reliant Wagon for the chime from your Cadillac or Buick and then do a video of this Reliant Wagon with either the Cadillac or Buick chime?
good thing is the 84 reliant can be kind of a parts car for the 88. since you said the 84 is getting preaty bad
While I can't say it's a trade I would have taken (me having a soft spot for w-bodies and a tendency to get attached to cars like a woman might a purse or a pair of shoes) I think once you put some elbow grease into it, it ought to make a fine little car. It'd be cool to it you turned the Red Rocket into a farm car.
I got a question, how did u register all those cars isnt ur insurance HIGH.
Your voice kinda reminds me of Red Green. I saw a Reliant wagon for cheap on Craigslist, and I hope someone saves it instead of sending it to the wreckers to be turned into a Chinese dishwasher.
Did the 1988 Reliant Wagon ever come with a chime as an option or just a scary buzzer?
What are the plans for this car? Do you plan to bring it back from the farm this summer to fix it?
what happend to the plymouth reliant
Yeah what are you going 2 do whit it?
It's to bad those are not as common to find I like to looks of the Plymouth, dodge, Chrysler from the 80,s to the late 90,s
The place to look would be in any of the southern states, especially the southwest. Every so often I do still see one on the road.
Hi, I have that exact same car colour and all and it was running like a top until the other day. I was on my way home when I noticed it was lacking power and as I went on the heat gauge started climbing. I made it to the next town but when I slowed to turn it stalled out. Got it running but was really rough on idle and would stall but smoothed out at higher revs. I was told it was a head gasket but I'm dubious. Any thoughts ? Thanks
Definitely a head gasket issue. The 2.2 and 2.5 engines were famous for regularly eating them. However you could get a heavy duty one from fel pro that lasted much longer.
Hey bill today is August 25th 2012. If your looking for something to do for TH-cam this weekend how about you give us an update and start up on the good old reliant station wagon.
floor shifter cool.
the transmission on the 1981-1989 Plymouth Reliant
Transmission
4-speed A460 manual
5-speed A465 manual
5-speed A520 manual
5-speed A525 manual
3-speed A413 automatic
3-speed A470 automatic
are u gonna keep that red car i wou;d love if u kept it
from davesfarm?? that dave?
@uxwbill Well, I wish you the best of luck. I know how it is cleaning out a house that is being used for nothing but storage. I am assuming one of the reasons it hasn't been done yet is that there's no place for all the stuff inside the Roach Palace.
It's old enough to drink! :P
Can you make more videos on the reliant
I no longer own this car either. I sold it for parts.
Thats not true, manaul cars dont have a switch to remove the key, maybe just some cars do.
Mine sure doesnt have one.
damn now i want one i drive a pontiac6000 wagon and this is much cooler
i don't think annybuddy is going to steel that raideo
all reliant and aries k cars came with buzzers there was never a chime as an option
my dads ranger doesn't, the reason for that is because his sister broke the key lock lol
With all due respect, my personal opinion is that the Lumina was a much nicer car. Had I been in your position, I never would have made this deal. Let me explain. The Lumina was running fine, seemed to be in better mechanical and cosmetic shape, it was already on the road; insured and registered and all that stuff, was better equipped, had all its windows, had an actual stereo system and went along with the GM-oriented "theme" of your channel. Alright, ignore that last one.. :)
you ain't seen nothing yet by bachman turner overdrive
then again, there is a loooooong distance btween the usa, and europe :p
With regards to the explanation, none is necessary. I know exactly what you mean :-)
what a horrible radio, nice car tho, looks like you got quite lucky :-)
LE is low entry right?
+Composite guy "LE" references a trim level, not a body style or special arrangement for entry or exit to or from the vehicle. LE in this case was supposedly a higher end trim level.
Thats interesting, thanks
+Composite guy Limited Edition
Probably "Luxury Edition"
@uxwbill Well, if you are as organized as me, the Reliant will be rusted into nothing before you find that title
Just kidding
if u need parts check out...iPartCarsDOTcom
