    Back when the knights exploded into the finals I remember saying that this was tree's most impressive jinxing effort ever. He was just stating the blatantly obvious, This expansion team will suck in its first year of existence, a given in the world of professional sports... and what do you know the FIRST expansion team in tree's youtube tenure just so happens to be great... despite how incredible that jinx was... I do vaguely remember tree coming out with a praising video for the knights. "Everything they have touched has turned to gold thus far and I'm actually starting to really like them as a team moving forward. Will I admit that I was totally wrong?... not yet. It's very early in their history and the REAL test of their staying power will be 3-4 years down the road." - UT, Revisiting... The Vegas Golden Knights...a video from 4 years ago.... The Knights upper management with their actions have essentially said that they don't care about chemistry or loyalty or the actual human emotions of their players. As long as they get back to the Cup, that's all that matters. They neglected to realize that team unity and chemistry was a major factor in the success in their inaugural season. They've become more soulless, cutthroat, and unlikable every year since and the product has suffered as a result.

    The Vegas Knights got me into hockey, and I can’t believe how badly the organization has mismanaged such a perfect situation. It’s embarrassing being a fan. I’ve never felt like this as a SF 49ers, Giants, or Warriors fan, even when each of these teams were bottom of the barrel losers.
    Not every move was bad! Patches and Stone were amazing gets that we don’t regret. The 3 big moves that totally screwed us:
    Firing Gallant
    Signing Pietrangelo
    Trading Fleury
    Gallant wasn’t fired for performance, but because he clashed with Foley and the GM… what a surprise. DeBoer sucks. Our power play under him has been pitiful. Our offense as a while is pathetic. How DeBoer is still around while Gallant was on such a short leash makes zero sense…
    Pietrangelo is a great player, but we didn’t need him. We had plenty of depth and traded it all to while also signing away all the cap space. Our cap situation wouldn’t be too too atrocious if we didn’t sign him. Trading for Lehner was an awesome move, but extending him and trading away Fleury were 2 horrible moves.
    And Fleury… there’s no words that can truly explain the betrayal true Vegas fans feel. He was the Vezina, who wanted to retire as a Knight. It turns out management saw him as a bridge goalie since the moment he became a Knight. Vegas’ management is idiotic, shameful, stubborn, arrogant, and spineless…
    I might be one of the few fans who loved the Eichel trade. Once healthy and next to Stone, Pacioretty, and Marchessault he should return to form. Again, if we didn’t pay Pietrangelo the cap situation wouldn’t be that terrible.
    Gallant and Fleury were, still are, and will always be beloved by the city. We had it all, a great present, bright future, a team that was exciting and lovable… and gone in the blink of an eye.

      @@Hiccuple Fleury was one of the worst starters in the league and the Knights goaltending as a whole wad one of the worst in the league at the time a young-ish guy freshly of a Vezina nomination was being offered at bellow market value. Since then, Fleury won his Vezina and went right back to being one of the worst starters in the league behind a defencive corp ranked around 10th in the league, the same ranking the Knights had when Lehner was first aquired (results vary from model to model). Youre either being purposely obtuse or did not pay attention to the team at the time. As for Stone, he's been one of the best players in his position and excellent for the Knights; he is a little less justified, but its not like the Knights lost much on his acquisition (the only argument to be made here is that he cemented the team's bad habit of always chasing big names rather than just sticking to a successful corp. His contract might also be a problem 3 years from now, but thats a different problem all toguether)

      @Hats502 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Gallant has been very bad here in NY. Outclassed behind the bench by Sullivan, his player deployment is a joke, willingly played 4/5 of the worst players in the league in terms of possession and shot generation often times more than the obviously talented young players, it took him until game 5 of the playoffs to finally realize Patrick nemeth is the worst defenseman in the league. His unrequited love for big immobile veteran dmen is painful. Who actually plays the worst 4th line in the league more than a surprisingly good line of 20-22 year olds who generate some of the most offense on the team/60

    As a true Vegas native (born and raised) who was just getting into hockey around 2015, to hear the mutterings of getting our own team was incredible. Imagine the high I got when every salty old head and shit talker was proven wrong by our Cinderella run in 2017. We acquired some pieces true but as soon as we axed Gallant, later followed by Fleury I knew deep down my beloved franchise, which brought a major sport to a city whose closest equivalent was the summer league, Tark's run which I wasn't alive for, and the Wranglers, was going to be the subject of a UT video. To say we sold our soul was an understatement. Every firing and trade cause more anger among me and fellow fans. We watched our misfits no longer fit together. A bargain bin dream was traded away for flash that seems empty. The Sharks crushed our souls in a way that them being a basement franchise before and since can't quite heal. Granted the dramatics may be a little much since it could be a blip (though I doubt it). It was still soul crushing every time Vegas made a move for a "high tier talent" at the expense of the guys who gave us our heart and soul. Watching guys like Neal, Reeves and Merrill be whisked off to other teams killed me as a fan. None of our recent moves seemed worth it, even at the time. Were we hampered by injuries? Sure, but unless we at least get a new coach this off season we're going to be right back where we were this year. I think Foley has been a decent owner, and having the team as a shining star after a national tragedy made me feel proud to be from a city that was the butt of jokes. Now our team is one too.

    Vegas fan, born/raised, Tree is 100% right. The first year spoiled us/management and i dont blame everyone for hating us due to how management treated basically everyone since. One thing i think needs to be mentioned that people often forget- we had the worst shooting in US history a week or so before our home opener in 2017. Vegas is a large city but almost everyone knew someone who was at that concert and it really shook the city. The Knights that first month and throughout the season were an incredible source for helping the city heal somewhat and made them endeared to us from the start. I think that connection from the beginning helped alot with them winning games. Now that beloved team has become a shell of itself and I can tell you for certain that many knights fans in vegas are not happy either at the way we've done business.

    • @ktosdad
      @ktosdad 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I agree. That first group of players played way over their heads that year and I think having the whole city come together like that was a huge boost and a major part of their success, but management failed to realize it and went after big-name players instead of building on the heart and character that the team already had.

    Probably the best video about the franchise I've seen. I was born and raised in Buffalo, NY, moved to Vegas in 2008. This place is my home, but I'll always be a Buffalo girl. Oct 1 really brought this community together and your description of our inaugural season, a bunch of 3rd/4th line players, contracts ending soon, etc couldn't be more true! The only players that fans in the league recognized were Fleury, Methot, Neal, and Van Riemsdyk. Nobody knew Marchessault, Perron, Karlsson, Miller, Eakin. I mean c'mon, you know those names now but not that first year! That team bonded and played with heart.
    The off season trades were smart moves for the most part, and a lot of people look at these trades with emotional attachment instead of looking at the business side. If we were to retain Fleury, we would have had to let go 5-6 forwards/defenseman along with picks. There's no way in hell, we would have been able to keep him here. Yes, he was the heart and sole of this team, but he was not cheap to retain. I mean, even after trading him, we still had to figure out ways to keep people like Stone, Pacioretty, etc. LTIR, bring up guys from the AHL. Our season was a shit show this year and it's kind of funny how the original fans are all bowing out now because that's exactly what every other fan base said would happen. It's embarrassing actually reading comments about Lehner and his mental health issues. He's no Fleury, but he's also probably 90lbs bigger and taller than Fleury as a goalie. He doesn't need to flop from one side to the other like a baseball player diving for a catch fully extended. He covers more ground! Now granted, he's slower but bringing up his mental health issues and riding that train on social media every time the team loses? Makes me not want to be in the same arena with these people. That's NOT how you support your hometown team. Before you criticize the players, I invite you to step on the ice and play the game. Yelling SHOOOOOOT when they're behind the net? lol comical.
    On the flip side, I'm really happy to see how the season ended for Buffalo and am excited for next season! My boys and hometown need a championship now more than ever!

    2:08 Sorry Tree, but that was a loaded talent pool chalk full of top 6 forwards but light on defense save for Fleury. Not to mention their GM was openly threatening to take specific players and naming names, (something Bettman put a stop to right before the deadline but it was too little too late,) resulting in teams offering up prospects and draft picks for them to walk away from specific players he named. This set the table for a very stacked Knights team that the Canadian pundits predicted to make the playoffs in a weak Pacific division.
    They had the deck stacked in their favor unlike Seattle which was an overcorrection on the league's part.

I’d argue making it all those years in a row is more impressive than winning a title, but then I realize that there’d be a couple more players in the Pro Football Hall of Fame by now if they had taken care of business.
      As far as Vegas is concerned, I feel bad for the fans that have to put up with the product their management is now responsible and don’t act like they’re entitled to success. If they don’t change their organizational philosophy, the future doesn’t appear to be super bright for them.

      It's a problem Fleury has had his entire career. Usually it's a puck flying in hot like that one and he doesn't settle it fully. A goalie stick doesn't do control it is a roll of a die of fast as shit or the weakest pass you'll ever see.
      He is an amazing goalie, he just doesn't have the hands goalies of old had. Still would take him over most others in the league

    1 year later and the Knights are one game away from their 2nd Finals appearance. Tree has the touch of shitting on people to make them a threat again.

    I was rooting for them, who wouldn't love a good underdog story. They had the potential to be the most beloved franchise, despite being in Vegas.
    But treating staff and players like garbage? Gerard Gallant? Marc André Fleury? Evgeni Dadonov? And it keeps happening. And it's hard to support a franchise like this.
    You're right, if they don't win the cup, the support will dwindle due to both failure and them being a total cancer of an organization. They have to do it.

    A year later, they have seemingly learned to cool their tits and it has worked. I’m not a Knights fan, but I wouldn’t mind if they win the cup this year. Mainly since if they do make the Cup final, a first time champion will be crowned. And that’s my favorite part of sports.
