Prometheus was so close to being a sci fi masterpiece. Just some small dialogue and plot changes would have done wonders. The xenomorphs, like the raptors in jurassic park, have been played out and are less interesting now. Engineers have plenty of mysteries left to uncover.
Erik: They were going to make a separate Alien 5 movie at the same time as Prometheus 2 BUT Ridley Scott convinced them at first delay and then cancelled Alien 5. Prometheus 2 was later named Alien Covenant. The rest of the Covenant movie doesn't get any better if we pretend that the Alien stuff was removed or replaced with black goo stuff like in Prometheus. That tells me that there are other reasons then the Alien stuff. The first Alien vs Predator movie was able to have several species. Imagine a better version of that movie but with Engineers, better scrip and other things Prometheus fans wanted / expected. Likely with as little Alien stuff as in Covenant but added in the right place and the right way while focused on the Engineer stuff.
Scene of Engineer being intrigued by human music is interesting. He seems to almost empathize with humanity, when he realizes they too have music. Makes you wonder if he wouldn't go on rampage if someone played harmonica for him ;)
Exactly..second why would he not also emphasize with Shaw in a way where he's curious about learning about her..especially seeing her get hit while he was being interrogated (shaw was the most peaceful/neutral in her approach)..I don't believe for a second the Engineer saw her as a relevant threat..completely the opposite..covenant should of been about those two since the term covenant is a unification of sorts..could of easily meant Shaw and the Engineer.
It sucks when ppl in the industry think they know what they are doing when in fact they were wrong. Leaving in those scenes would have done this movie so much better in the box office. Smh they should do like snyder and release the whole original cut of this movie on like hulu or something.

I get the feeling Ridley was forced to add more Alien for Covenant which pulled the story away from Shaw and the Engineers. I would have liked to have kept both Shaw and build on top of with other good Characters rather than feeling like a bit of a reboot at the beginning of Covenant.
Remember though, Shaw had just had a cesarean. There was no way she could fight that way after that kind of surgery. Her staples would have ripped open. But she was an amazing character, very likeable. I was also sad at how David did her in Covenant.

I had a friend who broke her rib while on stage doing a dance, she didnt really off or feel any pain until placing, which was 5 minutes later. I could not imagine what adrenaline could do or mask when a person is fighting for their life. Adrenaline literally decreases the pain you feel.
I loved Shaw. Even more than Ripley. It really sucks that Ridley Scott had to destroy his best character by killing her off-screen. God knows what went on in his head.

If he killed Shaw then he was just evil and didn't value human life aka everyone is dead, which is very different from if he didn't kill Shaw and she died from the black goo. If Shaw died from the good then it shows Shaw was his mother/lover figure to David which makes the scenes scarier/ more hopeful and ambiguous.

They should've made more scenes with the Engineers, I get it he had to leave questions for the audience but in both of these movies there was too many questions with very little answers.
These deleted scenes really make me love both Elizabeth Shaw & the Engineers even more but it also makes me further despise alien:covenant for the way they so disrespectfully waste Elizabeth Shaw's character.

Ridley Scott has a history and reputation of second guessing himself . He’s a perfectionist and it’s really his fatal flaw. He’s one of the most ingenious filmmakers in our generation as he’s given us some fine movies,but he’s incapable of following through with his intentions by constantly changing his mind or not giving us as audiences due credit in accepting his work . His hiring of Lindelof was a stupid error and almost cost him his reputation . Another example is thinking we didn’t want more Engineer lore. I think almost everyone wanted more of the Engineer lore and for him to pursue it deeper,since he started it with Prometheus.
And about face huggers.. I mean what’s wrong with the reg one? Why do we gotta have one now designed for King Kong? I mean a 9’ engineer could barely take a 4fter down the gizzard smashed in his hole with the velocity of a Nolan Ryan fast ball.. What if SHE was closer to it?? She was all of 4’11...

I agree with you on 99% of everything you've said, except for the scene where Shaw fights the Engineer. The fact is film culture has been over saturated w/ "100lb women who can kick ass" for many years now. Showing Shaw was able to survive by out witting the Engineer, after already proving her bravery in other scenes, was the better and less predictable choice by Scott.
But she didn't "fight" him. It's not like she was boxing the Engineer she just hit him with and axe. He tossed her around a good bit too. I'm confused on what is so unbelievable about her escaping him since that's all she did.
She could only survive his attack with wit. He is enormous and covered in lean muscle, yet still agile and quick. Also, she was severely injured. Her win wasn’t unrealistic in this way. But exclusively hand to hand, he would crush her almost immediately. I’m glad they left some of it out, but I would’ve liked seeing him watch the video and respond to it.
Yup. I liked it, although I felt right at the end that something was missing. After seeing all the dialogue and scenes that were left out, I instantly knew why I felt that way. And worse, I actually felt ripped off.
@@redpillscholar560 There is a fan edit made by Agent 9 of prometheus that includes the deleted scenes. It's really really good and the film flows so much better. It includes many scenes that explain the actions of crew members in the movie which without that context appear stupid. Like the guy wanting to be friendly with the snake thing. Earlier he had a good experience with these creatures and was excited. You should check it out if you haven't already seen it. It's tough to find though.
Similar to how they had to ruin Kingdom of Heaven because the good version (director's cut) was too long for theaters. Ridley Scott tries to make thoughtful movies but the editing seems to ruin things.

I would have loved to see some special connection between Shaw and the Engineer. I mean, I was pretty disappointed to see that they would only fight instead of trying to understand each other.
Did's I agree 100% If anyone notices when Shaw was calling out to the engineer asking why they hate humanity so much, and after the crew was ordered to shut her up. The engineer look as if he was fascinated by Shaw. And he looked pissed when they attached her. So I think they cut that scene out, because that’s the direction Ridley was headed.
Agreed! And that would tie in perfectly with the omitted footage of the Last Engineer checking out the books and becoming fascinated with the girl playing the violin onscreen. It suggests that the Engineers wanted to do away with us because we failed to live up to their expectations, like "They still war with each other, they think nothing of polluting and despoiling their own planet as their own kind suffers, and they're a scourge on the cosmos. We must eradicate them at once." Then the Last Engineer discovers all these _good_ things that humans have created, and it's like he suddenly starts having second thoughts about driving us to extinction. "Perhaps we misjudged our own creations...." That would have been fertile ground for new dialogue and understanding between Shaw and the Last Engineer. Perhaps the movie could have ended on a peaceful note from there (with the promise of a new covenant between humans and the Last Engineer), or it could have ended on a tragic note (with the proto monster that got C-sectioned out of Shaw's uterus killing the Last Engineer and/or Shaw just as those two are about to reconcile with each other). Either one would have been a much better ending than the dumb monster hunt that we got.
I wish Shaw was in Alien: Covenant. I think the producers did not see her full potential and her death is nothing but a footnote and I think her character deserved more. Her death was more like a brief dismissal after expecting the audience to invest so much time and emotion into her character. It's this lack of character development that leaves the prequels severely lacking.
Everet Mason I was just really disappointed by the disconnect (or maybe just disregard) between the director’s vision and the audience. He created Shaw and elicited the sympathy, empathy from the audience for her, then dropped the character without any respect for her development and the audience’s emotional investment. Is the only point of a movie that of what the director thinks, as opposed to telling a story people will be willing to sit through to get to a satisfactory end? The eternal question: is the work just an exercise in fleshing out a creative vanity, or is there a coherent, compelling story? In this case, it seems the coherence is not there and the story feels like it got chucked over the side as well...

I’ve always felt like there should’ve been alot more to Prometheus. Ridley Scott should’ve at least come out with an extended version of the movie. The most intriguing aspect about the movie was the Engineers. I wanted to know so much more about them, their technology, where they come from, everything! All the insights you implement in these TH-cam videos, are far more intriguing about the movie than the movie itself, because of all the revealing information. Especially the video when they woke up the Engineer and he spoke to them about how they sent mankind a saviour, how they put man in the garden, and how they showed the saviour that they sent us, a paradise but we killed Him. That sparked my attention to its entirety. I really hope Ridley Scott comes out with an exclusive blu ray & 4k version with all this insight.
I agree. But if you make a movie to long the theatres can’t show them as many times in a day and it’s all about money. That’s why most movies have about the same run time.

The engineers are really smart bur can’t tell the axe is a sharp object. Also he can throw her across the room yet can’t stop a axe she’s swinging at him. Glad they didn’t include the last fight.
Someone mentioned him being weak from a heavy sleep. I would say if You compare that to us, It would make perfect sense he wasn’t 100% let alone 60% it takes a good while and some food to be 100% ready
The deleted scenes tie the story together. Typical Hollywood to delete such valuable scenes in order to please everyone. I think you nailed the symbolism in those scenes. Also, I think they made a terrible mistake by killing Shaw in the sequel. Thanks.
Shaw deserved a better end! WHAT is the point of developing a character that strong to just then go on to have her dissected and NOT even be the mother of the Alien Queen - so disappointing. And of course ALL of the deleted scenes should have been in the movie, I truly do not understand what Didley Squat was thinking.
Glenda Johnson I agree! The android playing “God” has been done over and over! David should have never been the focus of covenant! I loved the character Shaw, and I felt after all that she went through; she deserved a lot better than that.
Christopher Lewis in my opinion it was the greatest alien movie yet, Prometheus was dope but it was sorta boring up until it started focusing on survival but in covenant it was much better since it made David the Mc and made him almost a god like thing I really like this since David’s my favourite character in the entire franchise
What if David purposely messed up the meeting of the engineer with Dr.Shaw? What if the engineer tried to save Dr.Shaw? Remember he let her go, she was the only survivor.
He didn't let her go, she ran off like a smart and observant person before he finished slapping those other clowns around. With all the distance she put between them, it was just easier to start his ship before she could get in hers.
Yes, now that I’ve seen them I feel cheated. On another note, Shaw doing any kind of fighting, even standing upright was the most unrealistic thing in the movie. Didn’t she give herself a massive and deep midsection incision just previously? Having received combat medical training in the Army, and having actually seen such injuries close hand, I know just how debilitating such injuries can be. But I guess in today’s Hollywood that doesn’t matter, as the mere fact of her gender gives her super powers.
What is even more disappointing is the discovery that there was a prior script written for Prometheus that was better than the story we saw. It was leaked, I think, sometime before Covenant hit theaters. That original script tied everything together and was much better than the to prequels we have seen so far.

Maurice Pimental Me too. There seems to be conflicting news about the status of the next movie. I really enjoyed Prometheus and Covenant. Each flawed, but very entertaining. They looked great and had very interesting moments and ideas. I don’t think we need more and more movies just about fighting xenomorphs. Alien already did that perfectly. I love how these last two movies went into different directions. Hope the trilogy gets completed 🤞🏻 🤞🏻 🤞🏻
It's sad we didn't get more engineers and probably won't be seeing anymore in the movies. There is rumor of a alien tv show . They can do some engineers episode in that explaining their mythology more
what i think about the changed opening scene with the sacrifice: the group of engineers looks ordinary enough, the one who is choosen to sacrifice himself looks perfect. so it might be that the all engineers aren't equal, the chosen ones to form new life are the best of them, to make the new life possibly the most perfect. all the religions are based on sacrifice too.
I've watched that extended version. For me it was convincing that the engineer was interested in the human culture, the confused admiration of the unknown art is visible on his face. But after he heard David's voice on the radio, he got frustrated. If you look carefully, you can see he did not want to kill Shaw at first. He came to investigate the noise, then look into her eyes. Don't forget he looked at her when interrupted Weyland's speech and even saw that she collapsed by the hit of Weyland's men He not attacks, nor moves at all, until Shaw hits him with the axe. And even then, he did not counterattack, or parry, only bounces back which is not enough to avoid the blade. After he gets cut again, decides to grab her on the neck. Fast, strong for first try being sure now she is as violent as the others of her species.
Good to see Prometheus content from you Kroft. I really love the extended opening sequence of the Engineer + elders and I did not even notice the many upon the ridge under the ship. RS and whoever cut all of that out because of the whole "not wanting to see God too soon" bit, but now after the post-Prometheus Alien fan outcry, re-imagining and change of story direction in Covenant and the uncertain future beyond this point after the Disney acquisition.....it seems like we will never get any further insight into that highly intriguing extended opening scene. I like to imagine that these Engineers are "pro-life" Engineers and that they attacked the LV-223 Engineers (as a part of an ancient Engineer protection ceremony) two thousand years ago in order to save numerous seeded worlds from a planned intergalactic genocide by the "pro-abortion" faction. To delve into the depths of Engineer culture and decision making and get more "meat" of Engineer lore (while still retaining mystery) would be fantastic....
I think that Shaw had a better shot at landing some blows to the engineer while fighting because let's not forget the engineer was just woken from his sleep chamber for God knows how long lol . So he was bound to be in a weaken state and slightly mentally confused just from being alseep for so long then to wake up open your eyes and as your eyes adjust and focus HOLY SHIT"!! WTF HUMANS?? He's thinking I must be dreaming... This is just a nightmare. That is all it is... That's until David began to speak....lol
The other humans he killed were taken by surprise until he rips off David's head. Shaw saw what he was capable of and how strong he was so she atleast got a chance to run away and prepare mentally and think of a strategy .
Engineer have been shown to be vastly superior Physically to humans. In expanded universe stuff a single Engineer is enough to take down teams of Predators and Colonies of human soldiers. Shaw wouldn't have had a chance with any high powered future guns they might have against that Engineer if it had its hands tied behind its back. we saw it Man handle David like he was nothing and as we saw Synthetics are far more than a match for multiple people.
I feel like it was a major mistake to kill off Shaw. From a story line perspective there would have been more continuity between Prometheus and Covenant and also resemblance of the same continuity that took place with Ripley's character in the following Alien installments. But it also makes sense that Shaw's character wouldn't be able to survive David's superiority complex after infecting the engineers home planet.
Thanks for bringing these deleted scenes to light. I will have to purchase the blue ray version. I still love Prometheus and Covenant but those scenes make it better.
one certainty with Ridley Scott’s films I.e. Bladerunner and Prometheus they continue to fascinate and stimulate and that is a feat in itself , top work Ridley 👍🏻
I loved Elizabeth Shaw. I have never watched Alien’s movies before after watching Prometheus I became a big fan of this story. I want Ridley Scott to continue with this story.

In my opinion , Prometheus is a wonderful science fiction film . I was always really disappointed about a lot of the negative feedback the movie received when it was released . I wonder if the inclusion of these deleted scenes would have changed peoples thoughts about the movie .
I think editing out the fight was a good idea; but less screen time for the Engineer was bad imo...they could've maintained the extended intro and dialog after he awakened (which makes much more sense, since it feels random in the final version...with this we understand why he destroyed David, as if it's an unworthy creation or something). Also i prefer the more xenomorph looking Fifield... Ps: Love your vids, man...tho they made me a bit sad since i really liked the draft you showed us :P
Someone on another one of these videos said to change the video speed to 1.25 . It helps so much, just wanted to share. It speeds up the narrators voice , plus you can still understand everything it just speeds up his slooowwwwwwww voice !
What surprises me is that the engineer didn't have any weapons to defend itself against the strange creature. If he's an engineer, he can kick some ass and knows how to lay a beat down.
Shaw is a perfect example of how we all should be; she had a strong faith, a curious mind to learn more, willingness and determination to reach her goals, a person in love.... Stupid Engineer! He could have asked her out, kiss her lips and tell her that he's in love with her - cuz she's strong! I agree I wanted to know more about the engineers and when I found out that Elizabeth Shaw will only make a cameo appearance in the sequel I've felt a bit ripped off, I mean why make a movie about the engineers and then go totally 360 and make about it the Xenomorphs in Covenant..It doesn't make sense, You know what also doesn't make sense in Prometheus you see a mural of a crucified xeno now where told that David a psychotic robot with a god complex created it.
He made it shorter to please his AI Overlords(Or more precise because they could get in another showing during each day in the summer blockbuster time) his actions and words proved this beyond a shadow of a doubt
My biggest problem with the movie is that there was more than one pyramid; they only explored one. Maybe there were other clues to their predicament elsewhere. There was certainly another ship. And if there was one engineer still in stasis in the ship they found, why wouldn't there be engineers in stasis in the ship they flew away in?
Ridley definitely needs to do more back story on the Engineers... Possibly even their own movie or a split movie from the storyline of the Aliens, Predator and Bladerunner series. It's a key piece to the overall story that has had little explanation to the culmination of the story relating all the characters. Such a great piece that could be added and pull all the peices together to make an epic story. Definitely alot of cool options to increase understanding of this utopian world and we could only hope they go this route to add more the franchise. Could definitely be a big blockbuster movie/saga if done right, but its way overdue in my opinion. Come on Hollywood, tap that cool fiction factor and awe use with a cinematic masterpiece, plz.... The cinematic visuals in the new Bladerunner movie were definitely on par but it lacked a bit better storyline to pull it into a great movie...Definitely love to see a new movie added to the saga with much more Engineer back story explaining how it all links together. Ridley Scott is on the right track, he's just got to hit the ball into the grandstands with it... And he very well could with all the back log of movie pieces... let's face it, After Alien 2 they all sucked. Alien 3 should've been Ripley, Hicks and Newt getting back to Earth, along with an Alien or eggs or Government bringing them or something, and the Aliens tearing shit apart, just for some more Marines, and Ripley of course, taking them down, and that was the end game.

Just rewatched Prometheus and the scene when they finally awaken the engineer always bugged me because the engineer just suddenly starts attacking them, which seems very primitive and barbaric, which is not in line with their high level of intelligence. I wish they kept the scene with more dialogue between David/Whalen and the engineer. Glad they took out the Shaw vs. engineer fight though! Haha it feels unrealistic to win that 1 on 1... I mean look at! He's huge! And our dear doctor just had abdominal surgery.
He didn't immediately attack them... but from his viewpoint, an old man shows up with a robotic doll asking for eternal life from the engineer. Engineer witnesses another person with a weapon and Shaw being punched in the stomach. I'm sure that was enough for the engineer to determine they were not worthy.

Now looking back . David knew music would appeal to "Big Whitey." As a opening greeting , David could of had a Flute in hand . To play when he awoke. Then had Shaw play some kind of string Instrument together. Remember, she did play violin, and possibly other string instruments. It just never crossed my mind ,until now.

The sad part was they also removed key explanations of the story. Some of the deleted scenes that were taken out of the film help explain the story a bit more.

Well that's a bummer! These deleted scenes would have been my favorite part of the film. I want to see more of the Engineer mythology as well as more of Shaw. I liked Danials too.
These "deleted or removed" scenes will probably be included in a re-mastered version that I would expect to be released in about 20 years time. Similar to what they did with Alien to commemorate an anniversary with a "Directors Cut" !
the iconic linkage with xenomorph and others is a catalyst for anticipation of hopefully other new expanded story lines merging. I ve watched this film as much as a favorite vhs as a kid.
When they created this movie, they were like holding a piece of clay. Almost, almost an awesome piece of art, almost....then nearly done, throwing it in to the floor. Jumping on it, spitting on it and throwing it out through the window.
As much as I want to know everything about the engineers, the secrecy that surrounds them causes me great intrigue. It might be in the best interest of the franchise to reveal as little as possible, for now anyway. I feel that the many unknowns of the engineers attracts so much curiosity in them that It not only causes a fear of the unknown, but also an intense interest in the intended use of the black goo. In fact, it’s a little disorienting when one tries to fill in the holes of what is known to what may be, to what could be. At the very least it leaves Alien fans enthralled and desperate at times to fill in the blanks with facts that gives the audience that “Aha” moment when a new fact is learned and added to the many questionable origins and consequences of not only the engineers and the goo, but also about the evil intentions of weyland yutani. It’s human nature vs engineer beliefs, vs the drive of the black goo to exist. All in all this is a universal story of nature vs evil vs the good vs our gods intended purpose for the existence of everything and how it influences every aspect of the struggle between all three. I don’t know if the drive to know more would be as intense if u haven’t seen Alien first and the rest in the order of their release. I’m totally into it though

Not getting away from the subject matter of the video, but in Prometheus when Shaw said to an armed crewman, " this is a scientific expedition- no weapons" and he replied, " ...my job is to make sure that everyone's safe." Shaw was not only killed but horribly mutilated by David, even though she saved him.
Prometheus was so close to being a sci fi masterpiece. Just some small dialogue and plot changes would have done wonders.
The xenomorphs, like the raptors in jurassic park, have been played out and are less interesting now. Engineers have plenty of mysteries left to uncover.
I really wanted more Engineers, but then they go and kill them all off in flashback

Erik: They were going to make a separate Alien 5 movie at the same time as Prometheus 2 BUT Ridley Scott convinced them at first delay and then cancelled Alien 5. Prometheus 2 was later named Alien Covenant.
The rest of the Covenant movie doesn't get any better if we pretend that the Alien stuff was removed or replaced with black goo stuff like in Prometheus. That tells me that there are other reasons then the Alien stuff.
The first Alien vs Predator movie was able to have several species. Imagine a better version of that movie but with Engineers, better scrip and other things Prometheus fans wanted / expected. Likely with as little Alien stuff as in Covenant but added in the right place and the right way while focused on the Engineer stuff.

Exactly..second why would he not also emphasize with Shaw in a way where he's curious about learning about her..especially seeing her get hit while he was being interrogated (shaw was the most peaceful/neutral in her approach)..I don't believe for a second the Engineer saw her as a relevant threat..completely the opposite..covenant should of been about those two since the term covenant is a unification of sorts..could of easily meant Shaw and the Engineer.

I get the feeling Ridley was forced to add more Alien for Covenant which pulled the story away from Shaw and the Engineers. I would have liked to have kept both Shaw and build on top of with other good Characters rather than feeling like a bit of a reboot at the beginning of Covenant.
Remember though, Shaw had just had a cesarean. There was no way she could fight that way after that kind of surgery. Her staples would have ripped open. But she was an amazing character, very likeable. I was also sad at how David did her in Covenant.

I could not imagine what adrenaline could do or mask when a person is fighting for their life. Adrenaline literally decreases the pain you feel.
I loved Shaw. Even more than Ripley. It really sucks that Ridley Scott had to destroy his best character by killing her off-screen. God knows what went on in his head.

If he killed Shaw then he was just evil and didn't value human life aka everyone is dead, which is very different from if he didn't kill Shaw and she died from the black goo. If Shaw died from the good then it shows Shaw was his mother/lover figure to David which makes the scenes scarier/ more hopeful and ambiguous.

Ridley Scott has a history and reputation of second guessing himself . He’s a perfectionist and it’s really his fatal flaw. He’s one of the most ingenious filmmakers in our generation as he’s given us some fine movies,but he’s incapable of following through with his intentions by constantly changing his mind or not giving us as audiences due credit in accepting his work . His hiring of Lindelof was a stupid error and almost cost him his reputation . Another example is thinking we didn’t want more Engineer lore. I think almost everyone wanted more of the Engineer lore and for him to pursue it deeper,since he started it with Prometheus.

I agree with you on 99% of everything you've said, except for the scene where Shaw fights the Engineer. The fact is film culture has been over saturated w/ "100lb women who can kick ass" for many years now. Showing Shaw was able to survive by out witting the Engineer, after already proving her bravery in other scenes, was the better and less predictable choice by Scott.

But she didn't "fight" him. It's not like she was boxing the Engineer she just hit him with and axe. He tossed her around a good bit too. I'm confused on what is so unbelievable about her escaping him since that's all she did.
She could only survive his attack with wit. He is enormous and covered in lean muscle, yet still agile and quick. Also, she was severely injured. Her win wasn’t unrealistic in this way. But exclusively hand to hand, he would crush her almost immediately. I’m glad they left some of it out, but I would’ve liked seeing him watch the video and respond to it.

Yup. I liked it, although I felt right at the end that something was missing. After seeing all the dialogue and scenes that were left out, I instantly knew why I felt that way. And worse, I actually felt ripped off.
@@redpillscholar560 There is a fan edit made by Agent 9 of prometheus that includes the deleted scenes. It's really really good and the film flows so much better. It includes many scenes that explain the actions of crew members in the movie which without that context appear stupid. Like the guy wanting to be friendly with the snake thing. Earlier he had a good experience with these creatures and was excited. You should check it out if you haven't already seen it. It's tough to find though.

Similar to how they had to ruin Kingdom of Heaven because the good version (director's cut) was too long for theaters. Ridley Scott tries to make thoughtful movies but the editing seems to ruin things.
I usually trust Ridley Scott's decisions, but yeah, had he left these scenes in, Prometheus would have been a much better movie. :(

If anyone notices when Shaw was calling out to the engineer asking why they hate humanity so much, and after the crew was ordered to shut her up. The engineer look as if he was fascinated by Shaw. And he looked pissed when they attached her. So I think they cut that scene out, because that’s the direction Ridley was headed.
Agreed! And that would tie in perfectly with the omitted footage of the Last Engineer checking out the books and becoming fascinated with the girl playing the violin onscreen. It suggests that the Engineers wanted to do away with us because we failed to live up to their expectations, like "They still war with each other, they think nothing of polluting and despoiling their own planet as their own kind suffers, and they're a scourge on the cosmos. We must eradicate them at once." Then the Last Engineer discovers all these _good_ things that humans have created, and it's like he suddenly starts having second thoughts about driving us to extinction. "Perhaps we misjudged our own creations...."
That would have been fertile ground for new dialogue and understanding between Shaw and the Last Engineer. Perhaps the movie could have ended on a peaceful note from there (with the promise of a new covenant between humans and the Last Engineer), or it could have ended on a tragic note (with the proto monster that got C-sectioned out of Shaw's uterus killing the Last Engineer and/or Shaw just as those two are about to reconcile with each other). Either one would have been a much better ending than the dumb monster hunt that we got.

I wish Shaw was in Alien: Covenant. I think the producers did not see her full potential and her death is nothing but a footnote and I think her character deserved more. Her death was more like a brief dismissal after expecting the audience to invest so much time and emotion into her character. It's this lack of character development that leaves the prequels severely lacking.
Everet Mason I was just really disappointed by the disconnect (or maybe just disregard) between the director’s vision and the audience. He created Shaw and elicited the sympathy, empathy from the audience for her, then dropped the character without any respect for her development and the audience’s emotional investment. Is the only point of a movie that of what the director thinks, as opposed to telling a story people will be willing to sit through to get to a satisfactory end? The eternal question: is the work just an exercise in fleshing out a creative vanity, or is there a coherent, compelling story? In this case, it seems the coherence is not there and the story feels like it got chucked over the side as well...

I’ve always felt like there should’ve been alot more to Prometheus. Ridley Scott should’ve at least come out with an extended version of the movie. The most intriguing aspect about the movie was the Engineers. I wanted to know so much more about them, their technology, where they come from, everything! All the insights you implement in these TH-cam videos, are far more intriguing about the movie than the movie itself, because of all the revealing information. Especially the video when they woke up the Engineer and he spoke to them about how they sent mankind a saviour, how they put man in the garden, and how they showed the saviour that they sent us, a paradise but we killed Him. That sparked my attention to its entirety. I really hope Ridley Scott comes out with an exclusive blu ray & 4k version with all this insight.

The deleted scenes tie the story together. Typical Hollywood to delete such valuable scenes in order to please everyone. I think you nailed the symbolism in those scenes. Also, I think they made a terrible mistake by killing Shaw in the sequel. Thanks.
Shaw deserved a better end! WHAT is the point of developing a character that strong to just then go on to have her dissected and NOT even be the mother of the Alien Queen - so disappointing. And of course ALL of the deleted scenes should have been in the movie, I truly do not understand what Didley Squat was thinking.

What if David purposely messed up the meeting of the engineer with Dr.Shaw? What if the engineer tried to save Dr.Shaw? Remember he let her go, she was the only survivor.
He didn't let her go, she ran off like a smart and observant person before he finished slapping those other clowns around. With all the distance she put between them, it was just easier to start his ship before she could get in hers.
No one talks about Shaw's strong survival instinct. I think this was transferred to the xenomorph's blood line.

On another note, Shaw doing any kind of fighting, even standing upright was the most unrealistic thing in the movie. Didn’t she give herself a massive and deep midsection incision just previously? Having received combat medical training in the Army, and having actually seen such injuries close hand, I know just how debilitating such injuries can be.
But I guess in today’s Hollywood that doesn’t matter, as the mere fact of her gender gives her super powers.

These movies are allegorical, don't take it literally.
What is even more disappointing is the discovery that there was a prior script written for Prometheus that was better than the story we saw. It was leaked, I think, sometime before Covenant hit theaters. That original script tied everything together and was much better than the to prequels we have seen so far.

They looked great and had very interesting moments and ideas. I don’t think we need more and more movies just about fighting xenomorphs. Alien already did that perfectly. what i think about the changed opening scene with the sacrifice: the group of engineers looks ordinary enough, the one who is choosen to sacrifice himself looks perfect. so it might be that the all engineers aren't equal, the chosen ones to form new life are the best of them, to make the new life possibly the most perfect. all the religions are based on sacrifice too.
I've watched that extended version. For me it was convincing that the engineer was interested in the human culture, the confused admiration of the unknown art is visible on his face. But after he heard David's voice on the radio, he got frustrated. If you look carefully, you can see he did not want to kill Shaw at first. He came to investigate the noise, then look into her eyes.
Don't forget he looked at her when interrupted Weyland's speech and even saw that she collapsed by the hit of Weyland's men
He not attacks, nor moves at all, until Shaw hits him with the axe. And even then, he did not counterattack, or parry, only bounces back which is not enough to avoid the blade. After he gets cut again, decides to grab her on the neck.
Fast, strong for first try being sure now she is as violent as the others of her species.

I really love the extended opening sequence of the Engineer + elders and I did not even notice the many upon the ridge under the ship. RS and whoever cut all of that out because of the whole "not wanting to see God too soon" bit, but now after the post-Prometheus Alien fan outcry, re-imagining and change of story direction in Covenant and the uncertain future beyond this point after the Disney acquisition.....it seems like we will never get any further insight into that highly intriguing extended opening scene.
I like to imagine that these Engineers are "pro-life" Engineers and that they attacked the LV-223 Engineers (as a part of an ancient Engineer protection ceremony) two thousand years ago in order to save numerous seeded worlds from a planned intergalactic genocide by the "pro-abortion" faction.
To delve into the depths of Engineer culture and decision making and get more "meat" of Engineer lore (while still retaining mystery) would be fantastic....

Honestly after watching your videos I think this movie could of been a work of art had they not cut so much dialog and scenes.
I think that Shaw had a better shot at landing some blows to the engineer while fighting because let's not forget the engineer was just woken from his sleep chamber for God knows how long lol . So he was bound to be in a weaken state and slightly mentally confused just from being alseep for so long then to wake up open your eyes and as your eyes adjust and focus

The other humans he killed were taken by surprise until he rips off David's head. Shaw saw what he was capable of and how strong he was so she atleast got a chance to run away and prepare mentally and think of a strategy .
To be fair she did just have an unplanned C section so she wasn't in the greatest condition either.
Engineer have been shown to be vastly superior Physically to humans. In expanded universe stuff a single Engineer is enough to take down teams of Predators and Colonies of human soldiers. Shaw wouldn't have had a chance with any high powered future guns they might have against that Engineer if it had its hands tied behind its back. we saw it Man handle David like he was nothing and as we saw Synthetics are far more than a match for multiple people.
Even with its flaws, this was a fantastic story. I would've loved for awakening to be more about Shaw and David's journey to the engineer planet.
I really loved Shaw. I hate what they did to her in Covenant.
I feel like it was a major mistake to kill off Shaw. From a story line perspective there would have been more continuity between Prometheus and Covenant and also resemblance of the same continuity that took place with Ripley's character in the following Alien installments. But it also makes sense that Shaw's character wouldn't be able to survive David's superiority complex after infecting the engineers home planet.
Thanks for bringing these deleted scenes to light. I will have to purchase the blue ray version. I still love Prometheus and Covenant but those scenes make it better.
I would have liked to see Shaw save the engineer. Maybe he would have had a change of heart. Maybe even shared some secrets

I think editing out the fight was a good idea; but less screen time for the Engineer was bad imo...they could've maintained the extended intro and dialog after he awakened (which makes much more sense, since it feels random in the final version...with this we understand why he destroyed David, as if it's an unworthy creation or something).

What surprises me is that the engineer didn't have any weapons to defend itself against the strange creature. If he's an engineer, he can kick some ass and knows how to lay a beat down.
Shaw is a perfect example of how we all should be; she had a strong faith, a curious mind to learn more, willingness and determination to reach her goals, a person in love....

I agree I wanted to know more about the engineers and when I found out that Elizabeth Shaw will only make a cameo appearance in the sequel I've felt a bit ripped off, I mean why make a movie about the engineers and then go totally 360 and make about it the Xenomorphs in Covenant..It doesn't make sense, You know what also doesn't make sense in Prometheus you see a mural of a crucified xeno now where told that David a psychotic robot with a god complex created it.
He made it shorter to please his AI Overlords(Or more precise because they could get in another showing during each day in the summer blockbuster time) his actions and words proved this beyond a shadow of a doubt

My biggest problem with the movie is that there was more than one pyramid; they only explored one. Maybe there were other clues to their predicament elsewhere. There was certainly another ship. And if there was one engineer still in stasis in the ship they found, why wouldn't there be engineers in stasis in the ship they flew away in?
Ridley definitely needs to do more back story on the Engineers... Possibly even their own movie or a split movie from the storyline of the Aliens, Predator and Bladerunner series. It's a key piece to the overall story that has had little explanation to the culmination of the story relating all the characters. Such a great piece that could be added and pull all the peices together to make an epic story. Definitely alot of cool options to increase understanding of this utopian world and we could only hope they go this route to add more the franchise. Could definitely be a big blockbuster movie/saga if done right, but its way overdue in my opinion. Come on Hollywood, tap that cool fiction factor and awe use with a cinematic masterpiece, plz.... The cinematic visuals in the new Bladerunner movie were definitely on par but it lacked a bit better storyline to pull it into a great movie...Definitely love to see a new movie added to the saga with much more Engineer back story explaining how it all links together. Ridley Scott is on the right track, he's just got to hit the ball into the grandstands with it... And he very well could with all the back log of movie pieces... I agree with Ingrid Turner. the extended dialog with the Engineer was needed , pretty much all of the deleted scenes needed to be there.
let's face it, After Alien 2 they all sucked. Alien 3 should've been Ripley, Hicks and Newt getting back to Earth, along with an Alien or eggs or Government bringing them or something, and the Aliens tearing shit apart, just for some more Marines, and Ripley of course, taking them down, and that was the end game.
Shaw versus the Engineer is completely stupid. The fact that she had a cesarean section just hours earlier, made everything after farfetched and unbelievable.
That image of the engineer looking through the books is what really made me curious about more of the lore
It made no sense why the Engineer wanted to harm Shaw...he seemed shocked more than anything when he witnessed her get bullied infront him while being interrogated..if anything he seemed to pity her than see her as a threat..would rather alien covenant be about Shaw and the Engineer surviving together and coming to accept their differences and finding mutual respect etc..the possibilities to this concept would be very interesting over what we got in covenant.
Just rewatched Prometheus and the scene when they finally awaken the engineer always bugged me because the engineer just suddenly starts attacking them, which seems very primitive and barbaric, which is not in line with their high level of intelligence. I wish they kept the scene with more dialogue between David/Whalen and the engineer. Glad they took out the Shaw vs. engineer fight though! Haha it feels unrealistic to win that 1 on 1... I mean look at! He's huge! And our dear doctor just had abdominal surgery.
He didn't immediately attack them... but from his viewpoint, an old man shows up with a robotic doll asking for eternal life from the engineer. Engineer witnesses another person with a weapon and Shaw being punched in the stomach. I'm sure that was enough for the engineer to determine they were not worthy.
@@chiil034 Yeah I guess... but seems inconsistent with the expectation that they are above us (humans), to react aggressively, rather than a least interact verbally a tiny bit first? I don't know a.. "What year is it?" or "How did you find this place?" would've made a bit more sense. I think just the fact that the engineer didn't do a whole lot of talking was a big disappointment...

Now looking back . David knew music would appeal to "Big Whitey." As a opening greeting , David could of had a Flute in hand . To play when he awoke. Then had Shaw play some kind of string Instrument together. Remember, she did play violin, and possibly other string instruments. It just never crossed my mind ,until now.

The sad part was they also removed key explanations of the story. Some of the deleted scenes that were taken out of the film help explain the story a bit more.

Well that's a bummer! These deleted scenes would have been my favorite part of the film. I want to see more of the Engineer mythology as well as more of Shaw. I liked Danials too.
These "deleted or removed" scenes will probably be included in a re-mastered version that I would expect to be released in about 20 years time. Similar to what they did with Alien to commemorate an anniversary with a "Directors Cut" !

the iconic linkage with xenomorph and others is a catalyst for anticipation of hopefully other new expanded story lines merging. I ve watched this film as much as a favorite vhs as a kid.

As much as I want to know everything about the engineers, the secrecy that surrounds them causes me great intrigue. It might be in the best interest of the franchise to reveal as little as possible, for now anyway. I feel that the many unknowns of the engineers attracts so much curiosity in them that It not only causes a fear of the unknown, but also an intense interest in the intended use of the black goo. In fact, it’s a little disorienting when one tries to fill in the holes of what is known to what may be, to what could be. At the very least it leaves Alien fans enthralled and desperate at times to fill in the blanks with facts that gives the audience that “Aha” moment when a new fact is learned and added to the many questionable origins and consequences of not only the engineers and the goo, but also about the evil intentions of weyland yutani. It’s human nature vs engineer beliefs, vs the drive of the black goo to exist. All in all this is a universal story of nature vs evil vs the good vs our gods intended purpose for the existence of everything and how it influences every aspect of the struggle between all three. I don’t know if the drive to know more would be as intense if u haven’t seen Alien first and the rest in the order of their release. I’m totally into it though
What if the engineer thought they were all androids like David and was offended at the fact man had sent simulated life for first contact..

Sadly, the minute they had the cybernetic android David go around assassinating both humans and Engineers alike all throughout the movie, they converted the franchise into a 3rd rate outer space Terminator movie. Having a psychopathic robot with a God complex killing off everything that is a living organism is already a dull and unoriginal concept. Dickley Squat needs to retire and just go take care of his great grandchildren instead.
Not getting away from the subject matter of the video, but in Prometheus when Shaw said to an armed crewman, " this is a scientific expedition- no weapons" and he replied, " ...my job is to make sure that everyone's safe." She had the prettiest eyes . I occasionally think of it from time to time. And I like hazel blue and Hazel Green eyes.
