- This is my first Saddleback Leather product, but I've been eyeballing their stuff for awhile now.
My wife ordered this for me for Father's Day and prior to that I was about to order the medium bifold wallet in black. I saw this one though when it suddenly appeared in their products page. I liked the fact that it had a dedicated middle section I could use just for my license, so I went with this instead, and chose dark coffee brown instead of the black. I think it will look better after breaking in.
Anyway, I'm happy with my purchase so far and once broken in it will be a lot less stiff. I'll update with a review after it's worn in a bit.
Feel free to leave any comments with specific questions.
By the way, I put the Guanajuato mug in there because we have friends there and Saddleback has their factory there as well - but I'm not affiliated with Saddleback Leather.
Here's the product page where you can check it out:

I watch this video every year...I brought the same after watching this video. It’s ageing well
My now 17yo son still has it after I gave it to him and he uses it all the time. It's actually flattened out quite a bit since he doesn't carry a lot in it. No problems at all so far.
Excellent...I've need this money bag..how much price?
Thank you for this video! I've been waiting for one to appear for ages.
***** You're welcome! I was surprised there wasn't a video for this yet. I know it's a newer product though so it probably takes some time.
measurements after the wallet is loaded would be nice!probably about 1''and 5/8 thick!if its 1'' empty, and do you carry this wallet in your front or back pocket!i no its probably holding up grate, because most saddleback products are made to last a lifetime or so! thank you for this video.
You should definitely update every so often
CubMan1978 I will - I'm still in the break in period, so perhaps after 6 months or so. It's only been 3 weeks, so it still looks new. I haven't run into any quality concerns yet, so I'm happy with my purchase.
What's the update on this wallet ? How's it aging ?
I've started using it more lately since I'm carrying more cards now. It's maybe darkened a bit, but still looks pretty new. I got the more waxy, even DCB leather that they were making at the time. Now they're making it with more grain which will patina better. I really think I'm going to look into the Medium Bifold ID wallet that just came out - as soon as the tobacco color is available again. If you're on the Saddleback and Other Leather Buy/Sell/Trade Facebook page I may be selling this one soon.
Is there any variant with a coin pouch?
I don't think there is a variant of this one. You'll need to see their website for the full selection.
I think its better that you buy a nylon trifold wallet with a zipper pouch if you want a coin compartement, these saddleback wallets are good, but thick, now imagine adding coins, or just buy a small pouch for coins
How does it look now that you have been carrying it?
+Rep Pledger It actually still looks fairly new still - definitely no falling apart or quality issues. I'll post another video with an update. I did buy the front pocket ID wallet as well and I had been carrying that for a few months when I only needed the basics - I switch back and forth, but have been using the trifold again recently. The only thing I noticed is that the stitching makes imprints/dents on the other folds since they're always pressed together, but there's not way around that since the stitching is thick. Doesn't bother me though...it's a wallet.
I too currently carry the ID wallet and would not trade for it but... I am curious as to how the trifold is flattening out
6 years later (my son has been using it for 5) and it's flattened out quite a bit. I should update.
This is good design, wallet would've been great if leather is used were slim or skinny. but still its looking good.
Ought to see the tri-fold wallet l make. I make separate slots for 9 cards/license and a place to put those plastic picture holders if you want one. They charge $79 for that made in Mexico wallet? I guess they don't want to pass on the savings to their customers because I'm pretty sure they don't pay American minimum wage down there. They didn't even bevel and burnish the outside edges, it may be strongly made, but it was also cheaply made.
I happen to like the rugged look. Again, it's a well made wallet, lined with pigskin and will last a lifetime. It's not a refined wallet, but most people that buy Saddleback aren't looking for refined. I'm sure if you're honest, the amount it takes you to make a wallet is probably more than $79 if you value your time. If it was fully made in the USA with the same quality materials, it would cost even more. I bought this when it first came out at $64 though (I think) - they've since raised prices, and I've since given this wallet to my son. I prefer the newer Medium ID Bifold wallet and Front Pocket ID wallet.
are you a total back pocket guy for your wallet?
Brad simle I usually put my wallet in my back pocket, but sometimes up front. Depends if I'm in a place I feel safe with it in my back pocket.
+Aaron M (AMenTX) I do like the front pocket ID wallet though and used that for several months after buying the trifold. Now I switch them out depending on my needs.

I'm filming an update to this wallet along with a review of the new Medium Tobacco ID Bifold Wallet and the Tobacco Front Pocket ID Wallet....and the Tobacco Valet Tray. Stay tuned.
UPDATE: here's the link: th-cam.com/video/reyJ_8cckWs/w-d-xo.html
To thick and has very few pockets, that's bad.
Fuzzy Drop It may be too few for some. I usually carry a debit, couple of credit cards on the right side. My ID and medical insurance in the middle seciton, a few perks cards on the left, and business cards in the middle behind my ID. Sometimes I even have cash to put inside the main cash section :)

Saddleback Leather make such lousy leather products; it's laughable everyone think they are actually any good.
What makes them lousy as a company in your opinion? I'll admit there's a lot of hype in some of the fandom out there, but it's not a bad product from the items I've purchased. It's not the be all end all to leather - there are lots of great leather companies out there with products to suit different needs and styles, but to call them an outright lousy company without any evidence of having dealt with them, it's pretty troll-ish of you.
For my money on the wallets I've purchased, I'm happy with the cost to quality ratio.
Cheers.
You are correct. I don't know the company enough to call it lousy. I apologize for that. I will go ahead and change my comment and call it lousy products instead, because they are indeed lousy leather products.

You're entitled to your opinion. Hopefully I never have to call any of the products I've bought lousy. So far they exceed expectations.
I'm curious which ones you've bought that are poor quality compared to the price paid and if those were recent purchases or if you've tried the warranty process if workmanship was bad.
Again, I have no stake in any of this, but I'm genuinely curious.
I have examined the wallets in person - bifold and credit card wallets. Both are using chrome tanned leather. I'm sure you aware of it. It's basically a low cost, environment unfriendly way to tan leather. It's bad for the environment, breaking down the leather by chemicals, acids and chromium sulphate to dye the hide. It doesn't age well like veg tanned leather does. So, when someone say Saddlebeck leather is good, I'm sorry, it is not good. Far from good. If you want something that will last a lifetime, age well, possibly create a beautiful patina, get veg tanned leather goods. Just because someone's buying Saddleback leather doesn't make it good; they simply don't know better. Unfortunately.
People will say, Veg tanned leather is very expensive. That's why chrome tanned wallet is the way to go. Well, if you do a simple search, you will find less than $40 bucks veg tanned leather wallet in etsy easy. Good quality stuff that will last long and age well. That's the way to go. Really.
Too much of a Wallet
No good too thik an bad design

I find that I use this one less and less now. I haven't really broken it in since I mostly use the front pocket ID wallet now. I don't usually carry much cash so it works best for me.
This wallet will definitely last for a very long time due to the thick leather, but I probably need to try to break it in via more extreme means for me to enjoy it as an every day wallet.
