"This is enough to make 60-65 dumplings. That's enough for 6 servings"
    Now that's a serving size I _like!_

Are you telling me hot and sour soup and dumplings can be eaten AT THE SAME TIME??? My two favorite Chinese dishes in one! Mind blown!

Similar thing happened to me last week with veg lo mein and leftover wonton soup, minus the wontons which were already eaten.

This is the best video I’ve ever seen showing step by step how to make dumplings. The close up shots of you rolling out each dumpling are excellent. For the first time I was actually able to see slowly how it’s done. Great recipe!! Thank you so much for the good work.

I missed out on the filling. I'll rewind and go back to previous videos. I never saw the batch cooled intentionally, but I have seen dumplings burst. Excellent.

I find her recipes well illustrated and presented. She makes cooking look easy and inspires me to want to try a least some of her recipes. I also find her very pleasant to listen to, she has a very calming voice and well spoken. Thank you for your videos, it takes out the fear in making Chinese dishes.

I know dozens of people that have spoken English their entire lives that don’t have half the vocabulary you use in this video!
It’s incredibly accurate and succinct English language usage that I think more “how to” TH-cam channels should adopt!

Perfection!!! I'm a top Chinese food cook now, to my husband and family anyway. Your better than take out recipes, are SUPERB!!!. My husband said to me two months ago.. Where ever you got that Mongolian beef from, that's the spot. We got a lot more beef. I waited until we were snuggling watching our movie, and said. I got it at "Souped up recipe" He said, That name needs work, but the food Exquisite! I finally explained, your cooking video. And, we watched the Mongolian beef one. Now he's asked for Chinese food once a week. Thank you for being an awesome teacher. Your techniques, and explanations, has really " souped up" my kitchen. Please know, no pun intended. This will be our Saturday supper, for sure. I can't wait to see the look on his face. He devours the dumplings now. And I do use the Pillsbury bread flour. Asian fare is rare in my neck of the woods. It's either amazon or a substitution. Again, THANK YOU!!!

Thank you so much for this recipe! It brings me back thirty years to to a favorite noodle shop in Beijing, in a hu tong off qian men da jie. I was taught to make jiao zi and it is a favorite of my family to make for special occasions. As the cold and rain comes to our northern valley, excited to make this for my boys on the weekend. From experience, your recipes are both tastier than the recipes from my Chinese (western authored) cookbooks and spot on to the daily meals at my college's can ting. That was a year of eating splendidly!
Thank you for all the work you put into your videos and the delicious recipes you share. You are a treasure!

I made this recipe and cut some corners initially. I used older frozen homemade dumplings and cut some corners with the way I made the soup.
Made it again without cutting any corners and it was hands down one of the most delicious things. Thank you for introducing me to this recipe! Definitely a 10/10 would and plan on make it many more times.

Thanks for showing how to make the dough and an individual dumpling. Your explanations are superb! Very descriptive, concise, and precise, which makes it very easy to understand and follow. I especially like that you not only tell how to do things, but explain why. Like many people, I do things better and remember them more when I understand the rationale. I so appreciate your thoughtfulness.

When I lived in Houston Texas I fell in love with hot and sour soup. In Houston they added lemon grass, and shrimp . But at the buffet I always added a couple of steamed dumpling to the bowl and some sriracha sauce. Houston has great Chinese food.

  • @mjremy2605

Wow! A dish fit for a king. I really appreciate these old authentic recipes. We need to make them part of our current usage. Lots of work, but so finely crafted. Reminds me of the laborious Indian cuisine from my childhood, and the fragrances wafting through the air of the house. The precision of those dumplings being rolled makes a lot of sense - the bottom won't break that way - thicker. Unlike machine made store versions. The flour texture is much better too, like thick noodles.
fyi - In India we dry roast the fennel seeds first, never used raw and it brings out the flavor better.

Thank you again for such a delicious looking recipe. I know what I’ll be making this weekend. I do not like fennel or cilantro, so I will substitute green onion (or leek) and cabbage/carrot/bok choy for the dumpling filling. Any chance you’ll be selling pots along with your wok? My wok came last week, and I used your oven method for seasoning it - so much easier when you have an electric stovetop. I’d love to see what pots and pans you recommend. Thank you also for creating a site for written recipes; it saves so much work! Seriously, keep cooking and sharing your recipes with the world. I’ve learned so much from you.

Thank you for this recipe! I made it last night and it was delicious. We couldn’t make it exactly as you have it. I couldn’t find a seaweed that looked right, and we don’t prepare meat at home, but I used beyond burger mince as a substitute and vegan butter where needed. The filling was delicious. The sauce is perfection. My dough would not stretch though and eventually had to set it aside and sadly use gyoza wrappers sold in the stores. Can you tell me how to get my dough to stretch and not shrink right back down?
My 4 kiddos (13,11, 6 and 8) were so excited to have a thermos of this soup to take to school today for a hot lunch. Thank you for all your recipes you share!
