The SAW viper was one of the 90s figures I actually liked. That machine gun was so detailed and looked cool. It was out of size and I kind of questioned if it was for another toy that they repurposed. Fun to know they sent the wrong info to the factory. That comic was one of the very few I owned as a kid. It was suck a shock to read that comic after all the years of watching the cartoon. Next week I will be submitting my first video for CC7!
Ok, as I have only just started collecting vintage Joe I can only afford one of anything. This review clearly outlines why I should get this late epoch figure, and will view him as the individual with the highest Joe body count... maybe he should be next to my Hood Cobra Commander 🫢
Oh yeah!!! Ive been waiting for this one. After reading the comic a lot of my joes got massacred over and over. The saw viper became the main villain for awhile in my back yard joe adventures
Those issues of comics had a major impact. I’d just started reading comics probably two years prior. The cliffhangers worked for a bit as a new reader, but I figured out pretty fast that they weren’t going to kill Spider-Man. Nothing to worry about. And then Doc got shot in the face. And it wasn’t okay.
*When I joined the US Army in 1996 -- I got to be a S.A.W. Gunner.* (Along with the M9, M16A2, M60 [one of the last units to carry the 60], Remington Trench Shotgun, and all the standard Blow 'Em Ups the Army assigns to Airborne Military Police Units) - I was so good with the SAW, that I could drop single round hits out to 400 meters... My Staff Sergeant whacked me in the head with a Range Paddle for that. I was supposed to be firing in bursts... but, I figured that if I can drop the target with one round? The SAW is one hell of a weapon - and it's Big Brother - the M240 Bravo - is MUCH more akin to the weapon SAW Viper comes with - the 240B is BIG like that. I've been waiting for this vid for YEARS - happy to finally see it! Rock on Brian! 🤘😎
i like the figure, enjoyed picking him up back in the day, then got the comic a few weeks later..... oh dear, that was rough. Have to give some Shout it out loud to Falcon, he must have thrown that knife pretty damn hard. Great video HCC788!!!
Wow, what an episode. I always thought he looked really cool. To me, his look was a bright spot in the DIC cartoon. I didn’t learn about him in the comic until years later.
Loved the video! You did great on this one, and now I'm temped to buy a S.A.W. Viper! I think there was an editing error at 21:03 - 22:05, as you repeat the same cut about 5 times...😅 Still yet, amazing work!
7:58 Maybe it's called that because it can serve a secondary function as a REALLY uncomfortable toilet seat when on those long missions away from base.
I figure the guys in charge figured S.A.W. just sounded more menacing. Like the character used his gun to "saw down" Joe's. Only fitting he did just that in the comics.
I'd need to have extra danger pay if I wore that outfit, not just because bright pink would make me show up like a beacon, but because enemy troops would want to shoot me for sheer pleasure!
Squad Automatic Weapon would have been a realistic name as the real SAW is the Squad Automatic Weapon. Wasn't he killed in the comic? After killing all the Joe's?
Yes, as @jeffjones2463 said, it is heavily implied that Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow kill the S.A.W.-Viper off-panel. Snake Eyes walks away with his machine gun and Storm Shadow tells Hawk they "got some payback". But, when it comes to comics, "no body, no death", so...
The comic and the toons were always out there in their own ways. I always based by toy playing and imagination in and around more on the file cards than either the toon or comics overall. The Saw Viper had crappy colors of course and then weird skinny arms and legs for lugging around a gun much larger than himself which ruined an otherwise cool Cobra heavy gunner class. But as a kid it didn't bother me so much cause the helmet was cool and he carried a gun that could take out men and vehicles alike .
This was a great story in the comic. A random grunt in cobra does all the killing. War as unglamorous and dirty. He was a good character. I like the toy. Cobra never had realistic colors but his colors were good for what they did. The visor makes sense if your doing high tech stuff, the outer layers of boots and gloves for whatever. The gun isn’t terrible. I would do a Soviet heavy machine gun to keep the trend going, but this gun is supposed to have all these features so that’s ok. The biggest issue is the ammo belt leading to the stock. It makes no sense. I see him as an army builder. Maybe a classified release will give him some individuality. I didn’t care for the more resent rereleases like 25th anniversary or what ever. Like most is ok, but giving him US machine guns don’t work for me.
Yeah, that's what he said dude... taller even, 2x 3.75 inch figures is the scale. So, 7 and somethin' somethin' fractions and numbers. Closer to the HALO figure sizes.
I like the SAW Viper, but I hate the helmet. Thankfully on the modern version the helmet was removable, so I replaced it with one from Marauders Gun Runners with night vision goggles.
I think Destro has most kills in the Joe universe. Episode 3 of the MASS device mini-series he used up the elements to transport 10 shock troops to space to defend the satellite, and they never showed them returning.
I noticed the Cobra emblem on the file card under the photo has two-tone color of black and red. When did this happen and is this the true Cobra look? Great review. Thanks.
Such a strange product. His filecard makes him sound almost more like a sniper. This figure might have worked better as a sniper IMO (that would even explani the "semi automatic weapons" thing). I'd expect a machine gunner to have a little more of a bulky build - the Range Viper wouldn't have been a bad look for a Cobra machine gunner. His MG is the not only the wrong size but also not the same one is on the card art. And his boots, gloves, skintight outfit, and that hip harness make him look a little like he's stumbled out of a fetish club. Oh well, it was the '80s. Wait, it was the '90s.
I knew this review was coming, love the channel brother, but I can't stand this character at all! Larry literally tried to make this weirdo like he was tuff, but wouldn't it put the Renegades in the comic book at all, I don't get that one, but looking forward to this year's 7th annual Convergence!👍🏽

What a way to start CC7 Commander. Going to be an amazing action packed month. COBRAAAAA!!!

The Trucial Abysmia death that affected me the most was when Sneak Peek died as a MFing absolute hero.
@@alectuddles5845only to be resurrected due to Hama's poor memory.....
The most dangerous Cobra operative- ever.
A series of mistakes. Yep. Well done sir. Mistakes x3 at the end. Cool episode.
Did you mean to repeat that bit at the end 3 times? Is there some relevance to it? It starts at 21:04 and ends at 22:05.
It was a series of mistakes which defines the SAW-Viper in HCC788's eyes.
Glad I'm not the only one that noticed it.
Back in the day, I gave him Sub-Zero‘a M-60
COBRA CONVERGENCE!!!!!❤️

I hope they make a classified version of saw viper!

Happy Cobra Convergence everyone
Wow, what an episode.
I always thought he looked really cool. To me, his look was a bright spot in the DIC cartoon. I didn’t learn about him in the comic until years later.
SAW Viper, the cobra heavy hitter!
I didn't realize the SAW Viper's gun came with a bi-pod. I must have lost that one right off the bat when I was a kid.
The real question is why Tunnel Rats gun so big lol
He's awesome! But dang that purple is goofy for a machine gunner!😂😂😂😂

That really messed with my mind!
It's my first toy of GI Joe
As a kid, my "SAW-Viper" was a Range--Viper with Sub-Zero's HMG & belt. This guy piloted my Piranha.
Hama makes a very strong point
7:58 Maybe it's called that because it can serve a secondary function as a REALLY uncomfortable toilet seat when on those long missions away from base.
Hoses were probably for the cryo fluid to cook the weapon.
I know ya mean cool...and I think yr right
Excellent review!!! 😘👍
Guy had to act tough because his uniform was purple and pink.
very impressive!!
Fantastic review as alway HCC! 😁👊
Great video!
IIRC the Devils Due comic turned the Marvel SAW Viper into Overkill (the Cyborg version from Spy Troops or whatever).
That's cold, having dead Joes around him.
The pose you put the figure in for the Media section! Too soon, HCC, too soon!
I sought to get all the Vipers and SAW Viper was one of my favorites because of that big gun. I knew nothing of the comic stuff at the time.
I figure the guys in charge figured S.A.W. just sounded more menacing. Like the character used his gun to "saw down" Joe's. Only fitting he did just that in the comics.
Great review! Excelent start for Cobra Covergence.
General Flagg, Quinn, Dr. Venom, Major Bludd, Serpentor, Oktober Guard, Firefly, BattleForce 2000, Billy...
Those guys sound badass
Wowm that gun is huge.
S.A.W. is supposed to be the acronym for Squad Automatic Weapon.
I'd need to have extra danger pay if I wore that outfit, not just because bright pink would make me show up like a beacon, but because enemy troops would want to shoot me for sheer pleasure!

Yes it's discussed in this very video
I love the saw viper but I wish he had been in black and silver
But he didn’t die. He became the plague trooper Gallows in the DDP comic.
No he became Overkill; Gallows was a different Saw-Viper.
Yes eventually after he had been turned into overkill
Didn't the saw viper return as a cyborg in the Devils Due continuation? I know that series is not Canon now.
Yes he became overkill the cyborg version.
The comic and the toons were always out there in their own ways. I always based by toy playing and imagination in and around more on the file cards than either the toon or comics overall. 😎👍
He reminds me of Paladin.
Squad Automatic Weapon
This was a great story in the comic. A random grunt in cobra does all the killing. War as unglamorous and dirty. He was a good character.

BFG 3000!!!
Definitely an enormous gun and totally awesome as well.
So with the amount of Joes he killed, that would kinda make him like the Jason Voorhees of Cobra.
SAW means squad automatic weapon.
Hopefully classified will get to this guy soon.
Not S.A.W viper, I need a Brian action figure in my Joes.
That gun would fit right in with the 6 inch figures.
Yeah, that's what he said dude... taller even, 2x 3.75 inch figures is the scale. So, 7 and somethin' somethin' fractions and numbers. Closer to the HALO figure sizes.
I wonder how Classified will interpret this design. I just hope it comes with more than the oversized gun.
The Virgin Cobra Commander: "Noooo! You can't just start killing joes!"
The Chad Saw Viper: "Ha! Ha! Gun go brrrrrrr!"
I like the SAW Viper, but I hate the helmet. Thankfully on the modern version the helmet was removable, so I replaced it with one from Marauders Gun Runners with night vision goggles.
Service automatic weapon.
The figure’s over-sized machine gun was not a good accessory in my opinion. In contrast what the Saw-Viper did in the comics was beyond treacherous.
Especially with such a scrawny figure
I think Destro has most kills in the Joe universe. Episode 3 of the MASS device mini-series he used up the elements to transport 10 shock troops to space to defend the satellite, and they never showed them returning.
I’m sure there was a spare rocket they could have sent up to retrieve them. Maybe.
I noticed the Cobra emblem on the file card under the photo has two-tone color of black and red. When did this happen and is this the true Cobra look?
Great review. Thanks.

What about the guy who killed 6 members of Battleforce 2000?
I'd say Cobra Commander did them in when he ordered the destruction of the oil storage tanks to put pressure on Emir.
I think it's a cool figure. You're rough.
Not my favorite looking uniform and I hope the eventual Classified does a nice update
You forgot big ben
Can you imagine how traumatic that holocaust would have been to little kids had the S.A.W. Viper segment had made it into the animated series? 🫣😱😬😓
Holy crap. How many times can you say “you can use him as a troop builder or an individual?” I think you repeated this three times in a row.
Repeated yourself thrice at end like a skipping record. Otherwise great review.
Keeping characters alive? Hasbro? Time to watch Transformers the Movie.
